After a few samples, you will be able to judge whether you might be interested in the 'fic, based on who recommended it. No-name recommendations will be zapped. Nobody would back up the rec. VA Books in Dimitri POV by gigi256

- Comments: Gigi is probably the most respected writer in the VA fan fiction community and the only one who has been able to complete a full Dimitri POV of all the books. Is very good about remaining in character, and explores things our main character didn’t witness without fear of deviating from the text. She’s also not afraid to get dark and graphic in her rendition of Blood Promise. Her other VA one shots are also very good.

- Comments: Llaria 6 does a great job capturing the right tone, especially of side characters. With some AU stories and some canon compliant, anyone looking for classic fan fiction will be happy readying their fics.

- Comments: A series of differently themed compilations from different VA authors put together for the 10th anniversary. One shots. Not all are canon, but each collection has a theme.
Stories that are generally canon complaint, no AU’s or what ifs. Can go beyond or before events of any books.

- Comments: An excellent little oneshot about Dimitri's 25th birthday. A missing scene from the canon plot that is very much in the vein of Richelle's short story "I am Rose Hathaway". Captures the comedy and fun of the original books like few fics have.

- Comments: Definitely the funniest fanfiction on the VA site. A short, multi-chapter fic about the hunting trip that Abe promises at the end of Spirit Bound. Captures the characters so well that you'll think you're reading the original book. Unfortunately is its pretty short, especially because it is dialogue heavy, but should definitely be on the required reading list.
Stories that are non-canon compliant. Can be a completely different world, or simple events that differ from the timeline of the books. Not intended for canon-compliant future fics.

- Comments: Unfinished, but possibly still updating. A completely alternate universe where many Dhampirs are slaves to the moroi. Rose and her mother are slaves in the Guardian household. Really quite good. Though there are a decent amount of typos and mistakes in the writing, the narrative structure and pacing is amazing. Additionally, anyone who has experience trauma will recognize the sensations being described, so its is incredibly sensitive to the subject. Never is abuse used as a form of entertainment, or used gratuitously. The story captures Rose's personality well if this was how Rose is raised. Worth checking out, certainly. Definitely mature subject matter.
- Comments: Fic description - The world of Moroi and Dhampirs is very different, political turmoil has opened up a vacuum in which illegal and immoral actions can transpire, such as slavery of Dhampirs. Rosemarie Hathaway is born into slavery in Arizona. Her life revolves around tending to her chores and making herself inconspicuous. But that all changes when Mr.Dashkov and his Guardians arrive
Deputy Belikov - A Romitri Western by Llaria6

- Comments: Llaria 6 has been recommended several times on this page but must be included in the list of best AU's. Her Western versions of the characters are simply fantastic, and she manages to weave the plot together in a way that is surprising and engaging while still being true to the stories. Finished, with an unfinished sequel. However, Llaria 6 is currently working on updating after a hiatus.
