  • Synopsis: An excellent writer who has written an entire Book Five, is in the process of writing an AU of Books Three and Four where Korra was abducted by the Red Lotus, and has given very deep exploration of Korra and Asami's relationship. She often employs heavy foreshadowing and often gets inside the characters' heads. Her most used character is Asami. Highly recommended for Korrasami and franchise lovers in general.

Different Worlds by Goku 12345654

  • Recommended by Guest 000
  • Status: Dead; last updated March 2018
  • Synopsis: "A young man awakes in an alley in Republic City. As he struggles to survive, he will discover the world of the Four Nations while making new friends and making new memories for himself." - The premise is such; a man from the 'real world' getting transported to the Legend of Korra series before the start of Book 1. It is a humorous story and the Protag's personality quirks make it all the better. It has the usual cast of characters, besides from the obvious OC, and a little bit of romance to be expected from the source material.

Korra's Questionable Career Choices

  • Reccomended by SnakeTroper
  • Synopsis: A pair of quick, comedic stories about Korra failing at various careers. In one, she fails at being a drug dealer. In another, she fails at being an author. The author one has notably raunchier humor than the drug dealer one, so stick to the drug dealer one if you prefer clean comedy.

Instincts of a Fearful Body by Emirael and skyedancer_rae

  • Recommended by: 425599167
  • Synopsis: Successfully kidnapped as a child, Korra grew up as a member of the Red Lotus. Finally, she’s come to Republic City to observe Amon’s Equalist Revolution. Zaheer’s case study goes further off-track, however, the longer they stay. After Hiroshi’s death at the hands of a bender, Yasuko Sato raised Asami in the midst of the burgeoning Equalist movement.
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Comments: I'm normally not a fan of either the Equalist!Asami or RedLotus!Korra AUs, but this one has the interesting distinction that Korra is very similar to the canon version, rather than becoming completely ruthless, despite being raised by the Red Lotus. The Red Lotus members themselves are also given a lot more depth, now that they aren't strictly villains. There are also some cleverly subtle consequences to Korra's kidnapping, like Amon's "accelerating plans" not happening, so this actually takes place later than Book 1 did.
    • Seconded by Avatar Wanderful: 12 chapters in, this is probably my favourite fanfic. Korra and Asami are brilliantly written - easily recognisable but with a harder tone to them than canon on account of both being raised to believe that certain kinds of people unequivocally need to be killed. Mako is so much more likable than in canon by virtue of his character arc being based more around his Promotion to Parent than a romantic tangle. What really sells this fic for me though, is Korra's interactions with the Red Lotus. As they raised her, she thinks of them as aunts and uncles and her dialogue with Ghazan in particular is so normal (complete with in-jokes) that the reader almost forgets they're out to rid the world of government.
  • Now has its own tropes page.

An Intermittent Dictum by Holographism

Ironclad by iviscrit

  • Recommended by: lokfan67
  • Synopsis: The battle for the United Republic is over, Suyin is desperately pulling strings to get Baatar back to Zaofu, and a lonely Kuvira awaits her trial from her cell. Without her fiancé, her military, and her Earth Empire supporters, an ironclad legal defense is her only hope of release. Also on AO3, but ff.net has the most up-to-date version.
  • Status: Complete
    • Seconded by Lady Erin NY: This fic not only gives character development to Kuvira but also Su and Baatar jr. Iviscrit does a fantastic job getting to the heart of Kuvira's actions and motives while not clearing her of her wrongdoings. If you want to see Kuvira be punished for her crimes but still think she can be redeemed, this is a story for you. Not to mention Su gets called out a couple of times but is still a good person and both Baatars gets thier own personality.

  • Synopsis: The Red Monsoons treated Korra well, even if she was just a thug for them. As long as they believed she was only a waterbender, everything would continue as normal. But everything may change when a member of the Agni Kais sees her fire bending.
  • Status: Dead. The author has rebooted the fic here: That Which is Lost (also Dead)

Lotus Hybridization series by Gigabomb

  • Recommended by Farseer Lolotea
  • Synopsis: A story about botany in which absolutely nothing grows. In which Katara refuses to compromise her ideals, Sokka admits that mistakes were made, and four members of the Red Lotus are given a future that is not entirely bereft of hope.
  • Status: A Seed is Planted, One Day in Early Spring is a one-shot; Twelve Years Until the Harvest and Don't Fear the Reaping are dormant.
  • Comments: This What If? series—alternately just called Hybridization—plays heavily on the Anti-Villain status of the Red Lotus and some Fridge Horror concerning their individual cells. In short: they're effectively sentenced to community service, and the author makes it work.

Korra Doesn't Like Fanfiction by I'mNotGoodAtThis

  • Recommended by Beatman 1
  • Synopsis: After receiving an important lesson from Master Katara about the horrors of fanfiction, Korra decides that she won't let the same thing happen to her. Current chapter: Korra meets someone new and falls for him completely. Will Mako reveal his true feelings to Korra? How will Korra react? Read to find out! Don't read the character pairing, that's cheating.
  • Status: Dormant (Last Updated November 2014)
  • Comments: While VERY, VERY crude and definitely earning its Mature rating given how it covers various types of sex fics, the series itself is a pretty hilarious deconstruction/criticism of the various cliches that seem to be common in LOK fanfiction circles. Korra's dealing with the infamous "High School Alternate Universe" is incredibly funny.

Can Korra discern who to trust, accept the truth, overcome her fear, and secure freedom?
  • Status: Dormant; last updated May 2018
  • Comments: There are naturally a lot of RedLotus!Korra fics out there, but the same can't be said for ones where Korra was kidnapped and raised by Amon to be a proud Equalist instead. A great What If? where we start off with a more spiritually-attuned and politically-conscious Korra who is less than enthused when she discovers she's a bender (much less the Avatar) and is forced to deal with that while also handling a growing class war led by a villain whom she still has the urge to call "dad".

  • The best Kuvira/Korra fic out there and one of the best Korra fics period. The relationship between Korra and Kuvira is built so wonderfully, without being out of character or bashing the relationships they were in cannon. Even if you are not a fan of the ship, and you should be after finishing, this fic has the best Kuvira redemption arcs I've seen in fandom ; the Beifong family is not just thrown under the bus for the stake Kuvira's arc, going into detail with her relationships with all of the family not just Suyin and Baatar, showing just how she got so hardened by book 4,. The Peace on Silver Pass by magicgenetek

  • Pairing: Amon/Korra
  • Synopsis: The spirits of Republic City are not happy with Amon and Korra's little war and the massive amounts of destruction to the city that it's been causing. So, they drag them into the Spirit World and tell them that they must make peace with each other (read: have sex) or they will be killed. This fic is incredibly hilarious, mainly because of the awkwardness. The author did a good job keeping Amon and Korra in-character, considering this is a fuck-or-die crackfic. This was written before the Book 1 finale so some of the things about Amon are AU. Warning for explicit sexual content.

  • Comments: A VERY good fic which explores what happens if the horrors of the 40K universe met the Korra era Avatar World. Equal moments depressing as characters become more and more jaded over the course of the fic, and awesome in the way that only 40K can be. English is not the authors first language, so it sometimes reads a little
oddly, but it doesn't detract from the fic.

Legend of Korra - Book 5: Discovery by Heinkel Boy 05

The Road to Redemption is Hard Fought by duvarneya

  • Recommended by: Curanduncan
  • Crossover with: Avatar: The Last Airbender (Main Series)
  • Status: Complete/Revisions ongoing
  • Synopsis: After the events of book 4, Kuvira believes that she can never make up for her crimes, and prepares to serve her sentence. However, she receives some unexpected support, first from Suyin, then even more unexpectedly, from Avatar Korra herself. A story of forgiveness and healing that expands to involve numerous characters both old and new as they face enemies that threaten the world, as well as a certain Fire Nation Princess who makes her dramatic return.
  • Pairing(s): Korra/Kuvira, Lin/Kya, Azula/OC, Asami/OC
  • Comments: This is a long fanfic, at over 150 chapters that can be broken down into 3 main arcs. Since it pairs Korra and Kuvira, some of your enjoyment would depend on how you feel about that pairing. Otherwise, it follows established canon up to what was released by 2015, with events and OCs that are integrated into the universe very well. It is rated M, so be aware there are some harsh language and adult situations. The revised version is being updated here: [1]

Hands of Fate by RGM-96S Stark Jegan

  • Recommended by: IS6A6E
  • Crossover with: Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: Spider-Man has to make and live with his choices in a new world. The curse of power consumes all.
  • Pairings: Peter Parker (Spider-Man Noir)/Korra, Mako/Asami
  • Comments: This fanfic was published back in 2013, but has been getting updates for the past 10 years. It stands at over 20 chapters. It starts with Peter seemingly invincible in the world of Bending, but as time passes, he begins to realize he needs to change the way he does things for him to survive. It's interesting to see how he interacts with the LOK characters and the impact he has on them. One of the reasons I love reading it.

Currently numbering at seventy-three stories, the series has tackled everything from culture shock, prejudice, ends vs means, and dozens of other ideals. • Comments: A Herculean effort to represent dozens of different franchises interacting and coming into conflict with one another to create an engaging and heart-pounding universal epic spanning existence. It has comedy, tragedy, action, and thrills, where readers may have no idea what may happen next but are happy to stick around to see the chaos unfold.

  • Synopsis: "The Avatar cycle continues. After the events that took part during Avatar Aangs life a new adventure now takes place with Avatar Korra." A one-shot comic inspired in shonen like storytelling and mangas.
  • Status: Completed
  • Comments: An adorable comic taking place in the days just before Korra discovers her legacy, as she struggles fitting in with her tribe, and beginning waterbending. The art style is great, harkening back to the original series. The comedy is on point, especially the humorous expressions the characters exhibit. Most heart melting of all is Korra’s bond with her parents, as they guide her through the first speedbump in her life.

Avatars Wan to Korra - Why Not Me by BentPaperClip

  • Recommended by: lmd84
  • Music - 'Why Not Me' By Within Temptation, though it's more a short monologue than music.
  • The creator said the track reminded them of Raava's voice, and the theme of evil is certainly appropriate. A short, powerful look at the Avatar Cycle and the triumphs and tragedies from Raava's perspective. Made before the finale aired. Also worth watching by the same creator is Korra and the Equalists - O Death which is a chilling amv covering episodes 3 and 4 of the first Book.

  • Music: "Savages," from Pocahontas
  • Synopsis: Amon takes the role of Governor Ratcliffe, and the Equalists thus stand in for the British, while Tenzin and his fellow Benders mirror the Powhatan Nation. Korra, as the peacekeeper of the world of Avatar at this point in time, naturally substitutes for Pocahontas, herself.
  • Comments: I've seen my fair share of fan videos for other properties using this song, but this is definitely the best that I've seen thus far — the clips are well-edited and well-chosen, and it ramps up to an adrenaline-pumping finish.
