While the science is, frankly, laughable, you hardly notice it reading (and, truth be told, The Original Series has worse science). The fic is solidly written, full of good psychology, seasoned with valuable ideas like the exploration of "balance" between Kirk's two friends and the Imaginary Friend thing they both have going on (talking to each other in their heads - much better than it sounds). In what is, more or less, a concentration camp, the Vulcans and Mc Coy manage to be compassionate, considerate and reasonable, and that's really uplifting. To keep the humanistic sugaryness down, there are their captors (a pretty disgusting bunch, although most of the planet is unaware of the whole thing) and Romulans, so argumentative, surly and uncompromising it's a wonder they even have a space-faring civilisation. If this is indeed, as the author suggersts, their very first fanfic, I'd say it shows high promise.
FanficRecs Quite a solid read
