Stories focused on the family and the friendly relationships of the cast. Plot-focused stories or light day-in-the-life stories. Pretty much anything that isn't focused on romance.

Ravka by Night by Agapic Law

  • Recommended by: aspera-ad-astra
  • Crossover with: Vampire: the Masquerade
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: An Alternate Universe fic with the Grishaverse characters reimagined as vampires. A newly-Embraced Alina is thrust into a dark, dangerous world of blood and violence. Trust is scarce, manipulation is everywhere, and death is only the beginning.
  • Pairings: Darkling/Alina, minor Mal/Alina
  • Comments: Strong characterization, dramatic plot twists, and a thorough understanding of both source materials. Just like Alina, I have no idea what's about to happen next, but I know I'm on the edge of my seat to find out.

Stories focused on the romantic relationships between the cast.

Start a War by nymja

  • Recommended by kayday
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing: Darkling/Alina, Nikolai/Alina, minor Mal/Alina
  • Synopsis: It takes three hundred years to love him.
  • Comments: This story is fills that satisfying itch that the end of Ruin and Rising left in my chest. What if Mal dies for real on the battlefield, but the Darkling lives? Follows Alina's life in the centuries that come after.

Our Lines in the Sand by GaleSentinal

  • Recommended by thornfield13713
  • Pairing: Darkling/Alina
  • Synopsis: In which being an orphan, a soldier, and a cartographer is more integral to Alina’s identity and she pays attention to the world around her. Meanwhile spending some 400 years in power confers certain advantages to the Darkling, but also certain blind spots. In this fight to secure a better tomorrow, both will be confronted with the same question: What are they willing to sacrifice in order to win?
  • Comments: The shipping hasn't really gone anywhere yet, but this is a gem regardless, and well worth reading just for the depth of its worldbuilding, the deftness of its characterisation, and the quality of its prose. A rewrite of the series from the beginning with a slightly older, more hardened Alina and a great deal of influence drawn from real-world history, religion and politics, this is one of those fics that is worth reading even if one is not familiar with the inspiration.

And I Will Tell You How I Remember You

  • Recommended by: Shatterstar
  • Pairing: Mal/Alina
  • Synopsis: Sankta Alina is a miracle like the world has never seen, but Alina is Alina.
  • Note: Post season 1. TV show universe.
  • Comments: An extremely moving and heartbreaking story detailing Mal's thought and insecurities but also underscore his love for Alina. The writing flows very well while being extremely descriptive and dramatic with just so little words.
