Proof that the remaining 10% is worth joining Cobra for here:

These are recommendations made by Tropers for G.I. Joe Fan Fics, all of which have to be signed to stay on the page. Feel free to add a fanfic of your own to the list, but remember to use the template found here.

You can also add to the current recommendations if you want. Refrain from posting Conversation in the Main Page though; that goes in the discussion page.

Skymaster23

  • Recommended by: Pending
  • Notes: Has seven Joe stories about the cartoon, and it's movie. The latter was completed on 9/7/2018. Warning: fics will imply adult situations.

Stories focused on the family and the friendly relationships of the cast. Plot-focused stories or light day-in-the-life stories. Pretty much anything that isn't focused on romance.

''Arashikage'' by Karama 9

  • Recommended by Zee Shadow
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: A revisioned history of Storm Shadow's fall into Cobra and return to GI Joe.
  • Comments: Follows the events of the comic closely, but holds its own in terms of story. The brainwashing parts were particularly well done, as well as the relationship between Tommy and Billy. Has a sequel, as well as some interlude stories by the author.

''The Little Medic That Could'' by willwrite4fics

  • Recommended by Antigone 3
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: A look back at how Lifeline joined the Joe team.
  • Comments: How did an Actual Pacifist like Lifeline ever end up in G.I. Joe? And how does the Joe team deal with a teammate who refuses to even carry a gun? This fic looks back to when Lifeline first joined to answer those questions. Of course there's action (it's a G.I. Joe fic, what did you expect?), but the primary focus and the reason I'm recommending it is the character development.

Stories focused on the romantic relationships between the cast.

''Corazones y Cazadores'' by Totenkinder Madchen

  • Recommended by Antigone 3
  • Crossover with: Alien vs. Predator
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: When Cobra takes an interest in a pre-Inca temple in the Andes, the Joes want to know why. But no one knows just who built the temple, or why, or who's still inside ....
  • Comments: The fic is still in progress; as of this entry the Joes have had a couple run-ins with Aliens, and Snake-Eyes just fought an honor duel with a Predator, but the Joes still think this whole mess is a particularly insane genetics experiment by Cobra Commander. I'm posting it now rather than waiting for completion because the author is doing a great job writing the claustrophobic horror of being trapped underground with a foe that you can't quite kill. While the author ships Scarlett/Snake-Eyes, it's very much background here. There's one neck massage in Chapter One, but once the plot gets under way both of them are sticking to business.
  • Astrakhan: Having read the completed fic, I can honestly say that the story is brilliant. All of the character voices ring true, both franchises were well-researched, and the author even gave Storm Shadow a compelling weakness—something he lacks in canon. It does get pretty bloody towards the end, but the author warns for it. There's also some very funny parts, such as Snake-Eyes screwing with Buzzer during an interrogation and Road Pig and Demolisher's reactions to birthing the Chestbursters.

Day of the Broken Fang by RK-Stiker-JK-5

  • Recommended by Themisterfree
  • Crossover with: Transformers
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: An attack by Cobra on the Decepticons sets off a chain of events that leads to the terrorist group's destruction. Prequel to The Elements of Harmony and the Savior of Worlds (an MLP:FIM fanfic that features Megan of MLP G1 finding that the original MLP world has turned into G4 Equestria; background elements of it go into Mega Crossover territory, featuring other characters from the 80's Hasbro/Marvel/Sunbow shows, called the Hasbroverse).
  • Comments: This fic, according to the author, explains why Cobra is no longer a threat. Cobra Commander, back in the 80s, had realized what happened when Cobra gets in the way of Cybertronians; unfortunately, Serpentor did not learn that lesson, and, in 1994, launched an attack on the Decepticon's Mid-Atlantic HQ; this fic details what follows. It's pretty good.

Atlas Shrugged: The Cobra Commander Dialogues by Sneezeguard

  • Recommended by Materioptikon
  • Crossover with: Atlas Shrugged
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Traveling to a new Earth, Cobra Commander inserts himself into the plot of Atlas Shrugged, meeting with (and trying to find the difference between) Rand's heroes and villains, and learns the most valuable lesson of all - Even Evil Has Standards.
  • Comments: An absolutely hilarious revision of Rand's book, comparing a literal cartoon supervillain's actions and motivations against the best of Galt's Gulch. With John Galt and his merry band of idiotic geniuses deprived of the Plot Armor that Rand liberally uses to spackle the plot into a semblance of coherence, Cobra Commander makes off with absurd amounts of gold, saves the world, earns the masses' love and loyalty, and rides to victory in a snake tractor!

Real Equestrian Heroes by skyace

  • Recommended by Tito Mosquito
  • Crossover with: My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: It has been said that no mission plan survives first contact with the enemy. During a mission to investigate a Cobra stronghold, a small team of GI Joes finds themselves under attack, and are catapulted into a completely different dimension along with their mortal enemies. Can this outnumbered, outgunned group of heroes save this new world from the evil that is Cobra? Possibly, just as soon as these Technicolor equines get out of the way.
  • Set soon after the events of My Little Pony: Equestria Girls, so it's an Alternate Continuity Season 4.

In the Grim Darkness of the 41st Millennium, Nobody Beats G.I. Joe! by Sun Tzu

  • Recommended by euan112358
  • Crossover with: Warhammer 40,000
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: In an amalgamated Hasbro universe, another alien invasion and a desperate escape attempt has shunted the entire Solar System into the middle of another universe, a grim one where there is only war. Stuck in the middle of the Imperium of Man, the only way for Earth to survive long enough to find a way home is to call itself Organitron, pretend it is a loyal and undiscovered subordinate of the Imperium, and send its best soldiers to fight on other fronts - which means that G.I. Joe has to pretend to be Imperial Guardsmen while their regiment is sent to fight all across the Xanadu Sector. W40K grimdarkness meets 90s cartoon G.I. Joe competency - who will prevail in the end?
  • Comments: It may be an amalgamated Hasbroverse, but the Joes, specifically their G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero incarnations, still take centerstage. This in-progress quest follows a newcomer Joe as he and the rest of the new Organitron Regiment (the entirety of G.I. Joe plus some other international recruits) fight against Orks, Tyranids, and Chaos forces while trying to navigate the xenophobia, fascism, and tyranny of the Imperium. The main draw, of course, is seeing Joe competency, effectiveness, and idealism overcoming the darkness of their universe, while trying to keep Organitron in good enough standing to prevent an Imperial Crusade coming down on their heads.
