Fanfic / Winter Troupe Digital Adventure

Go To

Winter Troupe Digital Adventure is a A3 x Digimon Crossover fic written by Legendary Biologist.

The Torment Doll, the Loupe of Sincerity, and the Unopening Door think of a way to test and strengthen Winter Troupe's bond. They decide to trap Winter Troupe in Digital World, a world where monsters known as Digimon live. It is a dangerous world, but they give Winter Troupe to undergo Spirit Evolution.

It all begins with Hisoka searching for a napping spot and accidentally finding the Unopening Door... Hisoka's disappearance ends up pulling the rest of Winter Troupe into Digital World, where everyone will have to find six items for Jijimon to conjure the portal back home.

There are six arcs as of now:

  • Introduction (Chapter 1-7)
  • Lava Cave (Chapter 8-14)
  • Native Forest (Chapter 15-22)
  • Beetle Land (Chapter 23-43)
  • Amida Forest (Chapter 44-61)
  • Ancient Dino Region (Chapter 62-ongoing)

Can be read at FFnet and AO3. After a massive update on the old chapters, the FFnet version has the pre-update version and is no longer updated.

Tropes found in the work (beware of unmarked spoilers for both the series and the fanfic):

  • Afraid of Their Own Strength: After Lava Cave incident, Homare is still haunted by his memories of attacking and trying to kill Guy as Vritramon. He becomes afraid of evolving into Vritramon again for that reason, because he might truly kill his comrades.
  • After-Action Healing Drama: At the end of the events at Lava Cave. Homare was severely injured after fighting DeathMeramon and Bolgmon, to the point that Guy had to CPR him. After that, he still had numerous injuries that were immediately treated by Tasuku and Hisoka at Drill Tunnel, but his condition was so bad that the treatment was only to buy more time for him. He still had to be rushed to the clinic.
  • Anger Born of Worry: Tasuku is prone to this. He yelled at Azuma when Azuma followed him into the Unopening Door room, before feeling guilty and apologizing.
    • Let's just say that Hisoka (and to some degree, Tasuku) yells a whole lot at Homare when Homare is about to explore Lava Cave by himself.
  • Animate Inanimate Object: Torment Doll, Loupe of Sincerity, and Unopening Door. They later disguise as Monzaemon, Blikmon, and Jijimon to watch over Winter Troupe in Digital World.
  • Arboreal Abode: The Tree Tower of Beetle Land is a hollowed out giant tree full of insect Digimon and activities. It's Beetle Land's main attraction. Beetle Land inhabitants also live in these.
  • Armor-Piercing Attack: GrandisKuwagamon's claws can shred through any armor.
  • Asskicking Leads to Leadership: What Tsumugi tries to invoke. Despite being the leader, he is physically weak and not very happy about it. Tasuku reassures that Tsumugi's strength as a leader is not in his asskicking capacity, but instead in his levelheadedness and ability to dissolve conflicts between members.
    • Beetle Land averts this. HerakleKabuterimon is easily the strongest inhabitant in the area, but not the town mayor because its eccentricity and Blood Knight tendencies are hindering its ability to lead. Instead, the weaker but wiser Kongoumon is the mayor.
    • Ancient Glacial Region averts this as well. Dinorexmon is an Ultimate Digimon and thus the strongest fighter among all the dinosaurs in the region, but MasterTyrannomon, a Perfect Digimon, leads everyone instead.
  • Bad Boss: Piemon sees its minions as nothing more than pawns and has been called out multiple times for its cold and even abusive treatment of Mount Infinity forces. Then it hands over its troops for BelialVamdemon's experiments to befriend the latter. A surviving Musyamon ends up leaving Mount Infinity's side and telling the good guys everything they need to know about Piemon's business with BelialVamdemon.
  • Bare-Fisted Monk: Guy. Even without evolving he can take down a group of ModokiBetamon with nothing but karate.
  • Battle Royale Game: The Gold Acorn hunt often results in this. To enter the Beetle Tournament, insect Digimon go to hunt the very rare Gold Acorn and fight for it. Its rule? All's fair in love and war. Teaming up with someone else? Fine. Getting help from non-insect Digimon? No problem.
  • Beam-O-War: The Beetle Tournament's Other Secret features one between HerakleKabuterimon and GranKuwagamon.
  • Benevolent Boss: Tsumugi. Everyone is willing to put their lives in danger for him, but he hates to see that happen. Also, woe betides those who hurt or harm his troupe members. As pointed out by Tasuku, Tsumugi is always happy to help his troupe members the best he could.
    • At one point he badly wants to be stronger so that he can protect his troupe mates, but when Monzaemon offers to train him at Native Forest for months, he refuses, knowing that he will end up leaving Azuma alone to work and keep himself, Hisoka, and Homare fed.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Tsumugi may be a clumsy Nice Guy but never, ever piss him off. Etemon learns it the hard way.
  • Big Fun: The big, strong HerakleKabuterimon immediately treated Tasuku and Guy to a bar when they first met. Then they met Searchmon. HerakleKabuterimon let it join the fun. HerakleKabuterimon even invited Tasuku and Guy to a karaoke night at its home.
  • Boisterous Bruiser: HerakleKabuterimon is big, strong, and loud.
  • Blood Knight: The whole Beetle Land loves fighting so much that they hold the Beetle Tournament monthly. HerakleKabuterimon especially loves battling new challengers.
    • According to The Beetle Tournament's Other Secret, TyrantKabuterimon started the Beetle Tournament because of the inhabitants' love for fighting. The older tournaments even allowed Super Serum and evolution mid-tourney, further fueling Beetle Land's battle-loving nature. Since TyrantKabuterimon passed away, the newer mayors had been adding more restrictions to the tourney because the Flexible Tourney Rules had left many participants seriously injured and bedridden for months. The older generation didn't really like the additional rules however.
    • Deconstructed. In the past, Okuwamon tried to cheat with a Super Serum in the Beetle Tournament and failed as it evolved into GranKuwagamon. It was against the rule and GranKuwagamon couldn't do anything to hide it, so it wrought havoc during the tournament. HerakleKabuterimon stepped in to stop the rampage, but when Kongoumon told it to kill GranKuwagamon right there, HerakleKabuterimon refused as it saw GranKuwagamon as a Worthy Opponent and wanted to fight it again in the future. Kongoumon was implied to turn HerakleKabuterimon's mercy into Cruel Mercy, as GranKuwagamon was left for dead at Mount Infinity. Years later, GranKuwagamon returned as GrandisKuwagamon and wrought havoc during the tournament again. The battle nearly killed HerakleKabuterimon, and the tournament ended differently and prematurely. Because this could've been averted if HerakleKabuterimon had finished it off way back, Kongoumon officially declared Tasuku and Guy as the champions, ending HerakleKabuterimon's winning streak.
  • Bloodless Carnage: Instead of blood, everything in Digital World bleeds data, which is represented by golden particles.
  • Born Lucky: Rare items always spawn for Tsumugi when he plays Digimon World.
  • Break Them by Talking: HerakleKabuterimon unintentionally does this to Homare by comparing Homare to his teammates, who gave their all while Homare didn't in the friendly duel. Cue Broken Tears. Though this pushes Homare past his limit and spurs him to explore Mount Infinity on his own, to experience the feeling of being cornered so that he will be forced to evolve.
  • Bring My Red Jacket: Homare's motif color is red. His evolution is Agnimon and Vritramon, who both wear red armor. He was off to a rough start by tripping over a root and getting an electric shock from a ModokiBetamon and later took a lot of beating from DeathMeramon and Bolgmon, so much that his heart stopped.
  • Can't Live with Them, Can't Live Without Them: Both Tasuku and Hisoka towards Homare. They shot down Homare's antics all the time and were not exactly the nicest people to him, but when Homare was seriously injured to the point he was comatose and dying, they truly missed his antics.
  • Cerebus Syndrome: Things get considerably less lighthearted once Lava Cave arc kicks in.
  • Converse with the Unconscious: What Hisoka often does to the comatose Homare. This includes reciting lines from My Master's Mesmerized by Mystery, in hopes that Homare will wake up faster. Blikmon also pushes Tasuku into doing that. Azuma later does this as well. Homare heard what Hisoka said, but it started out as gibberish before it progressed into something more complete. Homare admitted that he could feel Hisoka's kindness as he spoke, and it spurred him to wake up faster so that he could thank him.
  • CPR: Clean, Pretty, Reliable: Averted. Guy almost passed out from exhaustion and broke Homare's ribs in the process. Homare was still not safe even if the CPR was successful and had to be rushed to the clinic for a more advanced care. He also might suffer permanent brain damage. Part of the success was also attributed to what caused the cardiac arrest: electric shock. It took almost a day for Homare to finally get out of the coma, aided by the various medicines from Kentarumon and Hisoka's Converse with the Unconscious, and when he did, he was very weak and in severe pain from the broken ribs. As revealed by Tsumugi, Homare's brain was damaged anyway, causing Curse of Babel. It was due to Guy being one second too late to the rescue.
  • Curse of Babel: After waking up from his coma, Homare turned out to have word retrieval difficulties and kept feeling the words on the tip of his tongue. It greatly affected his ability to compose poems.
  • Darker and Edgier: It did start out with typical Winter Troupe shenanigans, but then Lava Cave arc kicks in. The boys' lives are at stake as they try to find their way home; hell, Homare actually had his heart stop beating and even after getting CPR, his life was still in danger. The fights are still brutal despite the Bloodless Carnage.
  • Dark Is Not Evil:
    • Tasuku wields the power of darkness, but is one of the good guys and has a very gentle heart underneath his stoicness and awkwardness.
    • Homare's evolution line is revealed to be of Nightmare Soldiers field (or demons), but he is also a Nice Guy who is more than willing to sacrifice himself for his comrades.
  • Death Mountain: Mount Panorama, literally. (Death)Meramon's existence caused earthquakes and landslides in the mountain, and it is implied that Plotmon was killed by one of those.
  • Deliberate Injury Gambit: Played with. Tsumugi pulls off one when fighting Musyamon, but rather than trying to get himself injured, he pretends to take the hit and throws himself off the bridge. It successfully deceives Musyamon, and Tsumugi takes this opportunity to strike back as Garmmon.
  • Determinator: After Etemon robs Tasuku, Tsumugi absolutely refuses to succumb to Love Serenade. Said ability forces Tsumugi to revert at the first time and weakens everyone.
    • Shadramon refuses to give up on entering the Beetle Tournament despite being an Armor-level Digimon and outclassed by higher level Digimon. Hell, his hunt ended with him getting slashed across the chest by MetallifeKuwagamon and used as a Fastball Special by Guy.
  • Dramatic High Perching: Even without evolving Hisoka can run along tree branch and jump from tree to tree without a fuss.
  • Dramatic Irony: Monzaemon claims that it is a Time Master. Blikmon says that Monzaemon is lying. With the Switching P.O.V. nature of the fanfic, the audience knows that Blikmon is lying while the Winter Troupe members do not.
  • Elemental Powers / Personality Powers: Everyone from Winter Troupe has an element assigned to them, which also reflects their personality in general.
    • An Ice Person: Hisoka, a cold, lazy Sleepyhead who is sometimes kind.
    • Blow You Away: Azuma, a relaxed and carefree person.
    • Casting a Shadow: Tasuku, a blunt and serious but actually socially-awkward and caring member of the troupe.
    • Light 'em Up / Light Is Good: Tsumugi, the kind-hearted leader.
    • Playing with Fire: Homare, the eccentric, loud, and confident member of the troupe. On a more melancholic note, Homare views himself as harmful to his comrades, just like the fire that burns indiscriminately. Tsumugi argues that fire is about warmth too, not just destruction.
    • Shock and Awe: Guy, a serious, poker-faced guy who was once the attendant of a royal family.
  • Empowered Badass Normal: Guy and Hisoka. Even without their Elemental Powers they are capable of giving many Digimon a run for their money. Having Elemental Powers makes them a force to be reckoned with.
  • Evil Counterpart: Piemon to Tsumugi. Both are highly intelligent strategists and capable of slicing up stuff with swords, but while the former is a Bad Boss whose mistreatment of underlings is biting back at its ass, the latter is a Benevolent Boss who inspires Undying Loyalty from his underlings.
  • Eye Scream: Homare got struck by molten metal in one eye.
    • Guy hits Woodmon in the eye with an electrically-charged fist, causing it to burst into data.
  • Fantastic Fruits and Vegetables: A lot of them, most of which are Healing Herb and Power-Up Food as well. They grow on the wild and are especially sought by Kentarumon to create various Healing Potion.
  • Fanservice: Fairymon's debut. Both Tsumugi and Homare are Distracted by the Sexy.
  • Fastball Special: Guy attempts this with Shadramon. Complete with Human Hammer-Throw. It didn't work.
  • Fiery Salamander: Homare's evolution line consists of fiery dragon Digimon. He recites a poem about "burning salamander" as soon as he evolves into Agnimon for the first time.
  • Fighting Your Friend: Guy vs Homare, due to Homare's inability to control his Beast Spirit Form.
  • Fights Like a Normal: Downplayed. While Guy chooses to not evolve to fight Woodmon, he still uses his Elemental Powers to bring it down. This is because Guy sees a bigger advantage in having the mobility as a human.
  • Five Stages of Grief: Homare goes through one as he tries to compose poems after waking up from his coma. The first few times he tried and failed, he wondered if it were just slip-ups. The more he failed, the more frustrated he grew. He thought composing with a different prompt would rectify the problem, but he still failed. Extremely frustrated, he snapped and insisted on trying again, only to end up aggravating his wounds and hurting himself. Tsumugi told him that nothing good would come out of panicking, and realizing that his mind was a mess from all the rage and pain, Homare decided to rest and accept that he'd lost his ability to compose poems.
  • Force and Finesse: Tasuku is the Force and Homare is the Finesse, as lampshaded in the narrative in a training chapter. While Tasuku is physically stronger, Homare moves his body and chains his strikes more smoothly.
  • Freudian Trio: Jijimon, Blikmon, and Monzaemon aka Unopening Door, Loupe of Sincerity, and Torment Doll.
  • Genre Savvy: Tasuku uses his knowledge of Digimon franchise to help everyone throughout the journey. Tsumugi also has some knowledge of it due to getting roped into the series courtesy of Tasuku, but limited.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: Musyamon's fate, courtesy of Garmmon.
  • Healing Hands: Jijimon uses it very sparingly to preserve File City's barrier.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: What Tasuku tries to pull off while trapped on the cliffside with Homare. This drives Homare over the edge and finally pushes him into overcoming his fear of evolving into Vritramon.
  • Holy Hand Grenade: Both Tsumugi's and Homare's elements contain holy properties, making them extremely effective against the demonic entities from Mount Infinity.
  • The Heart: When Tsumugi tries to invoke Asskicking Leads to Leadership, Tasuku reminds him that the entire Winter Troupe will always protect him. Tsumugi's presence and leadership skills keep the troupe together, and losing him will effectively crush the troupe's morale.
  • The Hedonist: The Beetle Tournament's Other Secret implies that Beetle Land inhabitants, especially the older generation, are these. They love fighting so much that TyrantKabuterimon started the Beetle Tournament, but they don't just love fighting; they love fighting strong foes no matter where their power come from and whatever they do. Super Serum, Combat Pragmatist, all are welcome. Their motto? "Excitement and Enjoyment!" Additionally, the Tree Tower itself is full of entertainment, such as bars, theaters, gyms, tournament arena, etc.
  • Heroes Gone Fishing: Guy and Homare fish at the sea by Jijimon's House. Homare learns how to fish from Guy.
  • Heroic RRoD: Spirit Evolution drains Tsumugi so much that he collapses and cannot move. Even after consuming Kentarumon's medicines and taking a nap, he still feels very sore.
  • Hot-Blooded: Etemon is a Perfect Digimon who has robbed Kentarumon over and over again? Tsumugi wants to challenge it for the treasures in its tree house, despite not being the most physically strongest. And damn he did slaughter Etemon.
  • I Call It "Vera": Homare invokes this when Tsumugi gains a katana. Tsumugi names it Crescent.
  • Intimate Healing: Kentarumon suggests keeping the comatose Homare cool to lessen his brain damage. As An Ice Person, Hisoka sleeps beside Homare to keep him cool.
  • It's All My Fault: Guy kept blaming himself for nearly killing Homare. Tasuku told him You Did Everything You Could, which did not make Guy feel better as things got awkward with Hisoka. Guy got better after Hisoka forgave him and thanked him for not giving up on Homare when his heart and breathing stopped, but he still wanted to do everything he could to make up for it.
  • Jerkass: Dinobeemon looked down on Guy just because Guy was a Martial Pacifist instead of a Blood Knight, unlike the older generation of Beetle Land inhabitants despite him being an insect Digimon.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Piyomon is harsh towards Azuma when Azuma makes mistakes in his job. However, Piyomon later apologizes after learning that Azuma's inability to work properly is due to how the current circumstances are pushing his Trauma Button.
    • Blikmon is blunt, no-nonsense, and more than willing to put the entire Winter Troupe through hell, but it set its limits and is displeased when it realizes how blunt it is at times. It also has a soft spot for Homare.
    • Played with in Tasuku's case. Tasuku is kind but very bad at expressing it, making him come off as cold sometimes. His kindness mainly shows from his action, such as scaring wild Digimon off instead of killing them. He gets better.
  • Laser Blade: Wolfmon wields a pair. MetallifeKuwagamon can create one with the lasers from its fingers.
  • Lethal Chef: Guy used to burn soup. Now he cooks well. He even thinks of learning how to cook the Power-Up Food they have been consuming at the restaurant.
  • Lethal Lava Land: Lava Cave.
  • Lightning Bruiser: HerakleKabuterimon is one. Strong enough to lift Bolgmon and fast enough to dodge KaiserLeomon's Schwarz Donner barrage while having a very tough shell that blocks pretty much anything.
  • Logical Weakness: Lack of Flight is a big problem when your opponents can fly, such as HerakleKabuterimon and Chimairamon. This is why Tasuku and Guy are helpless against HerakleKabuterimon and expect Homare to evolve into Vritramon. Later, Tasuku nearly falls to his death due to fighting on a cliffside.
  • Losing the Team Spirit: Homare being comatose makes the troupe quieter than ever.
  • Manchild: The whole Winter Troupe, at least what Tasuku often thinks. At one point, Jijimon even calls Hisoka and Homare man-children.
  • Maniac Monkeys: Etemon is notorious for monopolizing Native Forest's natural resources and robbing Digimon. Why? Because it is the only Perfect level in the area!
  • Manly Tears: Tasuku and Guy, the burliest guys of the troupe, shed them. Tasuku didn't even bother hiding them when he cried at the seriously injured Homare and later on, when he read Tsumugi's letter about Homare's condition.
    • Tasuku and Guy have a few bouts of it in Beetle Land. Tasuku's reaction? "It's nice to let the tears flow sometimes." When Butterflamon says "Tears don't suit strong guys like you," Guy claims that tears doesn't always mean weakness.
  • Martial Pacifist: Guy knows karate and can perfectly whoop your ass, but dislikes violence and fails to see a point in fighting for fun like the inhabitants of Beetle Land. He only fights if it is for his comrades or superiors.
  • Mighty Glacier: Guy's evolution line in general. Both Blitzmon and Bolgmon are physically powerful and have very thick armor that protects Guy's human body from injuries, but limited mobility.
  • A Molten Date with Death: Subverted. Homare came close to drowning to death in lava and was in sheer agony, but then he evolved into Vritramon and swam out of it.
  • Mr. Exposition: Jijimon and Tasuku. Mostly Tasuku, who is familiar with Digimon franchise.
  • Mundane Utility: At one point Hisoka thinks of using Homare's fire to roast marshmallows... Homare also uses his power to warm his bath water, whereas Hisoka uses his power to cool it off.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Jijimon aka the Unopening Door eventually comes into realization that their harmless scheme of trying to get Winter Troupe close their distance isn't that harmless at all. Whatever is in Mount Infinity may prevent Jijimon from opening the portal back to the real world, thus trapping the Winter Troupe forever in Digital World.
  • Nice Guy: Monzaemon, which Blikmon finds annoying. Tsumugi and Guy qualify as well.
  • Ninja Looting: In-Universe. The whole Gold Acorn hunt tradition encourages this.
  • No Biological Sex: Digimon has no gender. Neither do Unopening Door, Loupe of Sincerity, and Torment Doll.
  • No Body Left Behind: Digimon disintegrate when they die.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Homare, being a Nice Guy, was very afraid of hurting everyone else which caused him to try isolating himself until he can control Vritramon. Guy later came and tried to talk to him, which unfortunately made Homare even more afraid. As a calm mind is important for controlling Beast Spirit Form, Homare's fear only messed up everything.
  • No One Could Survive That!: What did Homare go through in Lava Cave? Punched multiple times by fiery fists (said fire burns hotter than his), one of which struck his face and broke Agnimon's mask and caused the shards to puncture his face, hit in the eye by molten metal, got his leg charred, and thrown into a river of lava. Then he evolved into Vritramon, which led to a Fighting Your Friend situation and even more beatdown: body slammed by Bolgmon (mind you, Bolgmon is one big tank), punched by Bolgmon's cannon arm, and struck by a huge lightning blast. After his heart stopped, Guy gave him a CPR and broke his ribs. And he lived long enough to get a proper care at the clinic, although comatose and needing life support devices.
  • Noble Wolf: Tsumugi, a gentle, kind-hearted leader of Winter Troupe who will kick your ass if you mess around with his troupe members, evolves into wolf Digimon.
  • Not a Morning Person: Tsumugi, as said by Tasuku. Proven very soon, as Tsumugi continues sleeping at the restaurant when he waits for his breakfast to come.
  • Panthera Awesome: Tasuku's evolution line features lions. Lowemon is a leonine-armored Black Knight, while KaiserLeomon is a gigantic metallic lion.
  • Pet the Dog: Blikmon giving a hungry Homare food early on, which also foreshadows that it is actually the Loupe of Sincerity, the urban legend that helped Homare back when Winter Troupe has just formed.
  • Post-Victory Collapse: Tsumugi reverts and collapses after slaughtering Etemon. He is still conscious, but cannot even move without pain.
  • Power at a Price: Spirit Evolution drains its user and is especially rough on those who do not have good stamina to begin with such as Tsumugi, or someone who does it after skipping breakfast like Homare. Evolving into Beast Spirit Form itself turns the user into The Berserker, but it is possible to control it, as said by Jijimon and shown by Guy.
  • The Power of Friendship: Downplayed. Guy himself is strong enough to beat Dinobeemon. It's just that Tasuku and the rest of the Winter Troupe give him the reason to break his pacifistic nature and fight.
  • Power-Up Food: Most food from the restaurant revitalizes the consumers.
  • Put on a Bus: Homare is completely out of adventures for around 60 chapters. Shows how serious his injuries are.
  • Resist the Beast: Homare as Vritramon struggled to stop Vritramon's rampage, but fails. Guy was unable to calm him down with words and had to blast him to oblivion.
  • Safety in Indifference: Azuma assumes this mindset again after Homare returns from Lava Cave severely injured and comatose.
    • Unimon used to adopt this attitude towards Plotmon. When Plotmon died, Unimon felt just as hurt because it couldn't forgo its memories with Plotmon. What hurt Unimon the most was that it had so few memories to remember Plotmon by, because this attitude prevented it from making many memories when Plotmon was still alive.
  • Shaping Your Attacks: Hisoka can conjure ice weapons with his Ice element.
  • Shipper on Deck: Blikmon meddles a lot with Winter Troupe's relationship.
  • Shout-Out: The chapter title Unforgettable Sorrow and in the same chapter, "We'll never abandon you. And we'll follow you to kingdom come, if we must," to Final Fantasy IX.
    • Chapter 32 is titled A Letter from Home. The play Guy and Tasuku will be watching is The Beetle Tournament's Other Secret, which is a play on The Old Castle's Other Secret, the alternative title of said comic.
    • Beetle Land has a bar named Down Beat Bar.
    • "Excitement and Enjoyment!"
    • The Gokimon Orchestra performs Butterfly in the tournament. It reminds Tasuku of several famous scenes in the show, such as Patamon's very first evolution to Angemon and the ending.
    • The chapter title Clash on the Big Bridge, in which Tsumugi clashes against Devidramon and Musyamon on a bridge.
    • The chapter title Fragment of a Dream.
    • The chapter title To the Land Before Time.
    • The chapter title Brave Heart. You know what to expect.
  • Super-Detailed Fight Narration: Major battle? Expect it to take about half of the chapter or more. It's Legendary Biologist's Signature Style, although much less graphic due to the Bloodless Carnage nature of Digital World.
  • Switching P.O.V.: The fanfic rotates between every Winter Troupe members and a few others every chapter.
  • Telepathy: Blikmon aka Loupe of Sincerity can read one's mind.
  • Team Chef: Guy is one. He even buys a cookbook from Beetle Land.
  • Tears of Joy: Hisoka shed a lot when Homare finally woke up from his coma, especially after learning that his Converse with the Unconscious helped and how much Homare appreciated his hard work.
  • Thunder Beetle / Tough Beetles: Guy's evolution line features Shock and Awe, heavily-armored beetles. HerakleKabuterimon is also one.
  • Time Master: Monzaemon aka Torment Doll can manipulate time. At one point, it offers to extend a day by 24 hours.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: At the start, if Hisoka ever acts kind to Homare, it is nothing more than Pet the Dog. After Homare falls into a coma, wakes up, and is bedridden, Hisoka shows genuine kindness to him because he is truly afraid of losing his loved one again. As Homare's caretaker, Hisoka also realizes how much of a pain he has been towards Homare before Homare's injuries stop him from being Hisoka's caretaker, further strengthening his resolve to be more appreciative towards Homare.
    • Tasuku definitely, definitely counts, telling Homare kind words every now and then, as well as praising his poems rather than shooting them down. Learning of Homare's Curse of Babel from his injuries caused Tasuku to reflect on what if it had been him instead, losing the ability to act, something he loved so much, because of injuries. Tasuku was determined to support Homare the best he could as a result. Even if it's not his forte, he's always trying, all to help Homare. But it's thanks to this Homare snaps when Tasuku is falling to his death at Mount Infinity, and overcomes his fear and finally evolves into Vritramon and immediately learns to control the form. All to save Tasuku.
  • Tournament Arc: The Beetle Tournament is a crucial part of Beetle Land arc. It is a single elimination style with four participants. Subverted later on. GrandisKuwagamon returned to wreak havoc and caused the tournament to end differently and prematurely.
  • Transformation Is a Free Action: Averted. Tsumugi's Transformation Sequence is interrupted by Etemon's Love Serenade.
  • Training from Hell: Funbeemon is said to experience this when rehearsing for Kongoumon role for The Beetle Tournament's Other Secret.
  • Trauma Button: Azuma having to wait for his friends to return is disturbingly similar to how he used to wait for his family to return. His family never returned, and the fact that Homare returned severely injured and in a coma pushed the button so hard that Azuma couldn't bring himself to hear more about what had actually happened.
    • Hisoka losing his loved one. That Homare almost died reminded him of August's death.
    • Anyone evolving to Beast Spirit Form terrifies Guy, who is afraid of fighting his troupe mates to force them to revert should they fail to control the Beast Spirit Form. It stems from his trauma of beating Homare so badly that Homare's heart stopped, all to force him to revert.
  • Unbroken Vigil: Hisoka to the comatose Homare. Even Blikmon notes that Hisoka will not fall asleep despite being a Sleepyhead. Later on, Hisoka even sleeps beside Homare.
    • The whole Winter Troupe towards the comatose Homare, to the point that they decide to have a sleepover in the clinic.
  • Undressing the Unconscious: Subverted as Homare suffered enough Clothing Damage for Guy to immediately locate his heart and perform CPR. Played straight and implied later on, in which Homare got a urinary catheter attached to him as he was comatose.
  • Warrior Poet: Arena champion HerakleKabuterimon is one. It is also his title in his entrance to the tourney match.
  • We All Die Someday: DeathMeramon's motive of ravaging Digital World. No point in keeping what is going to die.
    • Jijimon tells this to Piyomon.
  • Wham Episode: Chapter 41 gives a glimpse of what is actually happening in Mount Infinity.
  • Wolverine Claws: GrandisKuwagamon wields a pair.
  • The Worf Effect: GrandisKuwagamon almost tears HerakleKabuterimon, the undefeated arena champion of Beetle Land, apart when they clash. Kongoumon has to ask Tasuku and Guy to lend a hand.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Azuma dislikes bugs, but is willing to make an exception for Guy, who evolves into a beetle. Azuma was creeped out when he and Hisoka encountered a group of Dokunemon, a caterpillar Digimon.
