Fanfic / Violence in the Library

Go To

Four weeks after Bespin, Luke Skywalker still isn't fully back to active duty yet, and he's getting a little stir crazy. On the advice of his friends, he takes a short trip to the surface of a nearby planet, said to host an extensive library that includes information from the Clone Wars era that managed to escape Imperial censors.

On his way, Luke picks up a distress signal and finds several stranded passengers from a malfunctioning craft on the moon's surface. Out of kindness, he agrees to give them a lift to the library.

He soon discovers they have picked up a very deadly stowaway.

In short, Star Wars meets Alien in Violence in the Library, and Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader vs. the Xenomorphs.

As of July 17, 2020, the fanfic is finally complete. The author is in the process of writing a sequel which can be found here.

This Fanfic Provides Examples of:

  • Better the Devil You Know: This is ultimately (among other reasons) why Luke chooses to surrender to Vader and help him defeat the Xenomorphs (which are never named in the fic). He'd rather be captured by an enemy he knows (and has a hope of changing) than be killed by bloodthirsty monsters.
  • Black Comedy: Rogue Squadron keeps a constantly updated list of Worst Ways to Die, which they all enjoy as a little bit of dark humor.
The rather macabre document was circulated among multiple squadrons and ground teams looking for a little black humor to help them cope. Wes had kept the lead for three days with the entry Sat on by a Hutt.
  • Body Horror: Given that the Xenomorphs are the antagonists...
  • Continuity Nod: To both the Expanded Universe and Star Wars: The Clone Wars in characters such as Sergeant Kreel and Tars, an old clone trooper who fought in the 501st under Pong Krell on Umbara.
  • Enemy Mine: Luke and Darth Vader find themselves joining forces to kill the Xenomorphs due to the threat the creatures pose.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Vader is himself with everyone but Luke, to whom he is as kind and gentle as a Sith Lord can be, and he's visibly acting like a father figure to Luke from the moment the first fight with the Xenomorphs is over. He even gets upset at Luke when he realizes that he hasn't been sleeping regularly for at least a month.
  • Flashback: One chapter is this, in which Luke actually sees his father's memories of crossing the Xenomorphs before, during the Clone Wars.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Luke simply being near him is reminding Vader of how much he wanted to be a father, and he's shown an uncharacteristic level of care/concern for Luke throughout the story. The ending states that Luke is already starting to help Darth Vader become Anakin Skywalker again, and that he'll succeed in bringing him back to the Light.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Poor Luke. Going to the titular library, he gave a lift to some stranded people who turned out to be the breeding grounds for the Xenomorphs.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: Luke picked up a few people stranded in a storm and took them with him to the library. Said people were carriers for Xenomorphs.
  • Noodle Incident: Apparantly, Rogue Squadron went through something that Luke refers to as the "Three Week Pink-Eye Adventure". It's probably for the best that we don't get any more details...
  • No One Gets Left Behind: Luke tries. It doesn't work out as well as he would like.
  • Not So Stoic: Vader, although with his son around and in danger, that's kind of a given.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • It’s got legs?! Luke mouthed.
    • And then... "Darth Vader is up there. Right now."
    • The creatures, I just remembered something. They hunt by sound. They’re going to hear us! They’re going to hear you!
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Luke notes that Vader is acting very patient and even gentle with him after rescuing him, and knows that such behavior is massively out of character for his father. It's this unusual behavior that tips Luke off to the fact that Vader's not as far gone as most people think, and that if he's capable of giving Luke unconditional love, then he's capable of returning to the Light Side of the Force.
  • Papa Wolf: Yeaaah, no Xenomorph is getting a hold of Luke if Vader can help it.
    • One of the chapter summaries starts out with "In Which xenomorphs discover the folly of coming between a Skywalker and its young."
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: Poor Tars.
  • Villainous Rescue: Darth Vader just learned that his son is alive. You can bet that, even if the two men are fighting on opposite sides of the war, Vader isn't going to let some chest-bursting parasite kill his son.
  • Your Terrorists Are Our Freedom Fighters: Aeshpe, one of the librarians, isn't happy when she finds out that Luke is a Rebel; nor, for that matter, is her father when he sees Luke carry a lightsaber.
