A couple years after the drops of sun and moon are returned to the stars, Corona's head alchemist Varian

Varian and the Seven Kingdoms is a Staff-Created Fan Work, a hypothetical webcomic that would be a post-show Spin-Off to Tangled: The Series, created by the show's storyboarders Anna Lencioni and Kaitlyn Ritter.

Tropes in this 'verse include:

  • Arc Number: Seven. Each of the seven kingdoms represent one of the seven stages in the alchemical process.
  • Big Bad: Donella, a mysterious woman who used to be friends with Ulla until she presumably killed her and now wishes to discover her secrets in search of power, and for now, that means employing Hugo to get close to Ulla's son, Varian.
  • Dead All Along: Donella faced off with Ulla years ago and killed her, though she was able to use the magic of the Eternal Library to keep herself from passing on. However, this also means she cannot leave without dying.
  • Demonic Possession: Very much insane and finding out that leaving the Eternal Library will end her life, Ulla decides to try possessing her own son in her desperation to escape. Fortunately, Hugo is able to stop her.
  • Foil: Like Rapunzel, Nuru's kingdom is threatened with ruination by a cosmic disaster and she goes on a journey to find out how to save it. Likewise, Nuru's dress is decorated with a star map to show where she must go next, similar to Rapunzel's magical hair being reactive to the Moondrop's rocks. However, what makes them different is that Nuru is the sensible one in the group whereas Rapunzel is more excitable and impulsive.
  • Great Big Library of Everything: The outline describes the The Eternal Library is a magical library full of endless knowledge. Ulla is trapped within it, but wishes to escape and destroy it, having become possessive of its knowledge and wanting to keep others from it.
  • Mask of Sanity: According to the outline, Varian decides to lock himself in the Eternal Library with Ulla after learning of Hugo's betrayal, only to slowly find that Ulla is not a picture of sanity and even considered dangerous by Donella.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • Nuru is a Swahili name that means "light".
  • Missing Mom: Part of the story's main plot is discovering what happened to Varian's mother, Ulla.
  • Non-Indicative Name: Throughout Tangled: The Series, it is mentioned that Corona is one of the Seven Kingdoms and we're eventually shown what these other six kingdoms are. However, in Varian and the Seven Kingdoms, these other six kingdoms are not the same ones shown in the show.
  • Offing the Offspring: Downplayed. While she doesn't try murdering Varian, Ulla's madness and desperation to leave the library drives her to try taking over her son's body in order to set herself free.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Nuru comes from a kingdom plagued by meteor showers and she set out to find a way to put an end to it.
  • Shadow Archetype: Hugo is one to Varian.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: The designs for Ulla show that Varian looks considerably more like her than his father, with them both having a triangular face, slim build, pointed nose and blues eyes. However, Ulla is a redhead whereas Varian inherited Quirin's black hair.
  • Transplant: Hugo was originally created for Lencioni and Ritter's Dungeons & Dragons campaign.
  • Was Once a Man: After being killed by Donella and using the magic of the Eternal Library to sustain and keep herself alive, Ulla has become a "being of pure power" who will die upon exiting the library.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Varian's mother Ulla and Donella were research partners until something caused their relationship to fray.
