To Lose Ourselves and Find Our Bones is an All of Us Are Dead fanfic by casualscibbler. It can be read on Archive of Our Own here.

This fanfic provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: No mention is made of Hari and Woojin's parents' neglect of their younger child. They're quite devastated over their son's death. Possibly justified since the only mention we have of their neglect is from Woojin himself and the other family members might have been unaware of his feelings about this, or Woojin was being biased, or it wasn't as bad as straight up Parental Neglect.
  • Big Damn Kiss: Hari and Mijin have this.
  • Big Sister Instinct: Hari had this for Woojin, which is why she's so devastated by his death.
  • Broken Ace: Hari is a skilled archer, but she did poorly in her competition, feels guilty over her brother's death, has to deal with pressure from her parents, is coming to terms with her sexuality, and then her and the other kids are taken hostage by the military and Mijin is shot.
  • Closet Key: Hari realizes she is gay because of her blossoming feelings for Mijin.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Hari is devastated by her younger brother's death.
  • Everyone Can See It: The other four kids at the survivors camp quickly learn about Hari and Mijin's relationship even before the girls reveal themselves as dating. Also, Hari's parents take a little longer to figure it out but they do eventually.
  • I Let Gwen Stacy Die: She considered herself responsible for Woojin's wellbeing and feels a tremendous amount of guilt due to him dying in order to save her.
  • It's Personal: The plot to keep Namra safe is quite tumultuous for Hari seeing as the halfbie is the one who put Woojin out of his misery to keep him from hurting the others. One of the ways the military tries to get to her is by using this against her, with an interrogator asking why she's protecting her brother's murderer and informing her parents of the situation.
  • Lesbian Jock: Hari is into girls and into archery.
  • Mama Bear: Mrs. Jang gets quite angry at civilians who suggest that the kids might be lying about what the military is putting them through.
  • Missing Child: It’s mentioned that many parents of students have breakdowns, desperate to know what happened to their children, who are likely dead. The Jang parents also have to cope with confirmation of their youngest’s death. Additionally, all the kids’ surviving parents are freaked out when the group is imprisoned and harmed and under martial law, the military does not need parental consent to take them.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Hari and Woojin's parents are devastated by their younger child's death.
  • Parents as People: The Jang parents are upset that Hari failed at her competition even after everything happened with the zombies and have to be knocked down a peg by Mijin. Mr. Jang grows distant from his daughter and is particularly upset with her when it's revealed she hid that someone killed Woojin. However, they are both grieving their youngest child and Mr. Jang's coping mechanism is shown to be by stoicism like him repressing tears when Hari first reveals Woojin died. They do try to be understanding towards their daughter by inviting her friends and their families to dinner and they are protective of her and the other kids when they're taken by the military. Additionally, they're quite accepting once they realize that Hari and Mijin are dating, with Mrs. Jang regretting that their previous behavior possibly led to Hari hiding past girlfriends from them.
  • True Companions: Hari and Mijin stay friends with the other kids even after everything, with the former's parents inviting the other kids' families to dinner so that everyone is brought closer together.
  • The Resenter: Hari towards Namra for snapping Woojin's neck and because Mijin was shot because the military was trying to find out where Namra was.
  • Team Mom: Hari comforts Hyoryung when they're quarantined and acts as leader for the rest of the group.
