There Is No Truth is a Fairy Tail fanfiction by Reagan_The_First. It is a light AU of the main story with Lucy being a spy instead of a runaway. She is forced into this having been kept in an experiment, along with Yukino and Sorano, for most of her life making contracts with the Zodiac spirits and going through extensive training. She is sent spy on Fairy Tail by the Fiore government to see if they will willingly help or have to be blackmailed into helping with a possible war with Alvarez.Celestial magic is different in this story. It is both feared and hated.

Summery: Lucy was blessed with beautiful magic and that is precisely why she was chosen. Chosen to be more than a mere Mage. Gifted with the rare power of the Cosmos she was harvested for a greater purpose. War was on the horizon, and Lucy was forced into grueling training and experiments to become the greatest Celestial Spirit Mage Earthland had ever known.

But, what will happen when she is set loose on Fiore? Will the woman trained to summon armies, doom her people to war? Or will Fairy Tail prove more useful than a simple, destructive guild?

This is a second draft of Reagan_The_First original discontinued story

This fanfiction contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Backstory Change: Instead of being a runaway from a controlling father, Lucy grew up in a Black Site where she was forced to make contracts with the Zodiac, punished by the guards and put through intense trading to become a spy to infiltrate Fairy Tail. The same for Yukino and Sorano.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Flare makes an early appearance as a last addition guard for Lucy at the Underground. What separates her from other guards is how she kind and friendly with Lucy. Likely an attempt to make life easier for Lucy by Toma after he found out about the project.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change: Lucy and Yukino don’t need the gold keys to summon the Zodiac. Instead they were made to open the Eclipse gate and make contracts with the spirits directly. Lucy has also shown she can summon silver key spirits by just holding the key and saying the name.
    • Reagan_The_First has stated the Celestrial magic is very different from what it is in canon.
  • Age Lift: The story starts shortly before when the canon one does but everyone is a few years older.
  • Becoming the Mask: Barely a few days into her infiltration of Fairy Tail and Lucy already wants to be part of the family.
  • Black Site: The Underground or the Abyss Palace, is the location of the experiment where Fiore has kept some Celestial mages to make contracts to the Zodiac and be trained to become spies to infiltrate guilds that the Defense Ministry feel might not help with a possible war with Alvarez so they can be blackmailed into cooperation if need be. The conditions for the mages are horrible in that they are treated like crap and don’t getting any luxurious. Not even a towel to try themselves after a shower.
  • Childhood Friends: A strong one between Lucy and Yukino as they kept each other company and provided comfort for one another during the hell they went through in the Underground.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: The girls in the Underground are punished for the slightest miss step, talking back, not doing well in training and even referring to each other by their names instead of number. All of which Darton and the guards justify by believe that Celestial mages are cursed and deserve it.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Lucy beats the crap out of a bunch of thugs that attack her and Lisanna.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: See Cold-Blooded Torture above.
  • Dead Drop: Lucy is given one to drop information she has gathered on Fairy Tail for the Defense Ministry.
  • Dead Fic: Last update was 9/15/20.
  • Deep Cover Agent: Lucy, Yukino and Sorano have been sent out to infiltrate guilds that the kingdom feels might not help in a possible war with Alvarez so they can gather blackmailed if necessary. Lucy even has a cover story that she is the daughter of a Rune Knight from Crocus, something that the Defense Ministry would be able to back up if anyone snooped around.
  • Dehumanization: The Celestial mages of the Underground are seen as less then human by Darton and the guards. They are identified by numbers instead of their names. Put in cells with no form of comfort. Are punished for the slightest perceived transgression.
  • Dehumanizing Insult: So many. Lucy has been called a star freak, cursed bitch and even an it.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: Karan was the first subject of the experiment and is implied to have died during it.
  • Does Not Like Magic: In this case a very particular form of magic. Celestial. Celestial mages are hated and feared by many people in Fiore due to something that happened in the past.
  • Government Conspiracy: The Underground trained three celestial mages to infiltrate guilds to spy on them and gather blackmail to force their support if necessary, for a possible war with Alvarez.
  • Irony: If this story maintains the canon reason for Alvarez invasion than Lucy being sent to see if Fairy Tail will help or need to be forced to help will be pointless as they will be at the epicenter of the attack.
  • Irrational Hatred: It is yet to be made entirely clear on why people hate and fear celestial mages. While in the Underground Lucy and the others had to face constient abuse from the guards for being what they are. Outside the Underground Lucy has come across a store owner that was uncomfortable with her presence when she accidently used her magic. When she joins Fairy Tail Marco was hesitant to let Romeo near her.
  • "It" Is Dehumanizing: At one-point Lucy does get called an it.
  • I Will Punish Your Friend for Your Failure: Darton makes it clear to Lucy that if she abandons or fails her mission, or tries to contact Yukino and Sorano he’ll take them back to the Underground and punish them.
  • Jerkass: Darton and most of the guards treat Lucy, Yukino and Sorano like crap.
  • Kick the Dog: Just see the other examples to see how Lucy, Yukino and Sorano were treated.
  • Missed Him by That Much: Lisanna and Lucy’s return to the guild from Hargeon coincides with Natsu’s fight with his imposter.
  • Pet the Dog: Toma treats Lucy kindly, referring to her by name instead of number, hoping to give her the freedom she deserves and even has his own maids setup her apartment to make it as comfortable as possible.
  • No Social Skills: Having been kept from any contact other than Yukino and Sorano, as well as the abuse of the guards, idioms and figures of speech go over Lucy’s head. She passes this off to the others as having been sheltered for most of her life.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Toma understands the hell that the girls of the Underground have been through and treats them with kindness (helps that his own daughter is a celestial mage). However, he understands that he can’t just shut the project down upon finding out about it due to a possible war with a much more powerful nation and will need the girls help in order to gain the power to deter or fight back against Alvarez.
  • Revealing Skill: By complete accident Lucy ends up revealing her celestial magic to Lisanna by holding a silver key and just saying the name of the spirit which summons it.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: The only reason as to why Hisui wasn’t subjected to what the others went through is likely because she is the princess and future queen. Not to mention that Toma would never subject his daughter to such treatment. It’s clear he already isn’t happy with what happened with the others.
  • Sins of Our Fathers: Whatever celestial mages did in the past has caused people to hate and fear the ones in the present.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Instead of being presumed dead like in canon, Lisanna is still in Earthland instead of Edolas. She is the first to meet Lucy and become a close friend and bring her to Fairy Tail instead of Natsu.
    • This could be in part to due with Reagan_The_First having stated in their original work that they didn’t liked the Edolas arc.
  • Training from Hell: Lucy and Yukino have to train against each other daily and if they don’t do well are punished.
  • Wardens Are Evil: See Jerkass above.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: For all their jerkass treatment of the celestial mages Darton and the guards only do it because they think they deserve it and the Training from Hell is so that the girls are ready for their mission to protect Fiore.
  • Wicked Witch: As far as Darton and the guards are concerned celestial mages are this even if they haven’t done any harm.
  • Witch Hunt: Reagan has stated that Fiore did have something like the Salem Witch Trials in its past. It has also been stated that celestial mages were chased out of Ishgar around the time of the Guild War.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Subverted, the guard didn’t harm the girls when they were children but once they got into their teens is when the abuse started.
  • Xenafication: The training that Lucy went through makes it so she can fight without using her magic.
  • You Remind Me of X: Lisanna reminds Lucy of Yukino. Which makes it very easy for her to become friends with Lisanna, mission or no mission.
