The Truth about Mork
is a Fan Fic of Mork & Mindy.
When Mindy is invited to a housewarming party and brings Mork along, she notices he's a bit insecure. When Mindy's friends insult Mork, he feels bad and tells her that on Ork (his home world), he was shunned for having emotions and talks about troubles he's had while visiting other planets such as Urg (where they act like cave people) and Planet 12 (where they drain Orkans' powers to make electricity).
The Truth about Mork provides examples of
- Alien Catnip: Mork's getting drunk on carbonated drinks is mentioned.
- Aliens Speaking English: Zigzagged. The Orkans mainly speak English, but they also have their own language. There's also the planet Urg, where the natives can't understand English, and the planet Lake, where they do speak English, in fact the name of the planet is an English word.
- Aliens Steal Cable: Orkans learnt about war and such forth from Earth TV.
- Alpha Bitch: Mindy says that she used to be a popular bully at high school but she outgrew it.
- And I Must Scream: According to this story, when an Orkan breaks the law, they get put in suspended animation but still conscious.
- Big Damn Heroes: When Mork gets in danger, Orson saves him in the nick of time.
- Chewing the Scenery: Apparently, Mork "hams it up" at the party.
- Claustrophobia: Apparently, Mork is mildly claustrophobic.
- Cloudcuckoolander: Mork is eccentric, which is why Mindy likes him and why her narrow-minded friends don't.
- Dark Fic: While nobody dies or anything, it's still way heavier than you'd see on the show, barring a Very Special Episode.
- Distressed Dude: Mork gets into serious danger three times (almost gets murdered, almost drowns, then almost gets drained of his power).
- Exposed Extraterrestrials: The citizens of Urg go naked, but not the Orkans or any other aliens.
- Extra Eyes: The pet from Lake has three eyes.
- Fantastic Racism: The natives of Planet 12 are prejudiced against Orkans, seeing them as inferior.
- Flash Back: Most of the fanfiction takes place in the past as Mork is telling Mindy about what happened.
- Human Aliens: Most of the aliens in this fic look a lot like humans, with the exception of the pets and the natives of Planet 12.
- Hurt/Comfort Fic: Has moments of Mindy trying to cheer up Mork who's feeling sad, although it's not the focus of the whole story.
- Literal-Minded: Mork initially thinks a housewarming party is a party for when a house needs heating up.
- Lost Voice Plot: Mork can't speak for a while after being released from stasis.
- The Medic: A doctor on Ork looks kind of like Mindy, Mork wanted to flirt with her.
- Mistaken for Romance: Mork is just Mindy's friend at this point, but Jennifer thinks she's dating him.
- The Nameless: There are several unnamed characters, including the pet on the planet Lake, the bearded superior, and the people who thought Mork was a scorcerer.
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Mindy is concerned when Mork is more self-conscious than usual.
- "The Reason You Suck" Speech: When Mindy's friends dis Mork, she chews them out.Mindy: "I know Mork better than any of you do. He's fun, intelligent and kind. He's been a good friend to me, which is more than I can say of any of you tonight. I came here hoping you would be as accepting of him as I am, that you would appreciate him as much as I do. I thought you would. I thought after all my years of knowing you that I could expect some ounce of compassion and understanding. I guess I was wrong."
- The Stoic: All the Orkans strive to not express emotions (with the exception of Mork) because they think they're dangerous.
- Straw Vulcan: The Orkans believe emotions are dangerous and anyone who expresses them is "defective".
- Take Me to Your Leader: When Mork tries to talk to the creature on the planet Lake, he says, "I know this is a cliche, but can you take me to your leader?"
- You Are Fat: Mork sometimes jokes about Orson's size.
