Fanfic / The Touch of Green Fire

Go To

The Touch of Green Fire is a Kim Possible fanfic by AlyssC01 that can be read here. It is a 25-chapter Kim/Shego fanfic that was completed in 2008.

The fic starts with Kim thwarting another one of Drakken's schemes. Drakken notices that Shego is snappier than usual, and even Kim notices that Shego isn't as energetic as she normally is, however it isn't until the next day that it becomes apparent that something is seriously wrong with the woman. When Drakken finds Shego unconscious and feverish in her bed he looks for a doctor, but being a super-villain criminal and Shego's own superpowers makes that difficult. With no one else to turn to, Drakken turns to Dr. Anne Possible, Kim's mother, for help.

As it turns out something is seriously wrong with Shego. Within a few hours of reaching a hospital her organs start failing. Unfortunately, no one can figure out either why Shego is sick or how to help her. It's up to Kim Possible to find a way to cure her arch-nemesis. Along the way, Kim comes to realize some things about Shego and her own relationship with her.

The Touch of Green Fire is the first of the Touch series. It has two sequels: The Healer's Touch and A Touch of Drama. The Healer's Touch revolves around Kim and Shego teaming up in order to rescue Kim's mother Ann, who was kidnapped by a man who wants to force her to do an illegal lobotomy on his son. A Touch of Drama reinterprets the events of So the Drama into the Touch series' universe. It's unfinished as of 2018.

This fanfic contains examples of:

  • Abusive Parents: Mr. Du Pont has a normal teenage son named Jeremy, but he hates Jeremy's personality and wants to "fix" it. He wants to lobotomize his son in the hopes that he'll become more aggressive and assertive. The procedure has been banned for decades, so he resorts to trying to pay off doctors himself. When Ann declines the offer, Mr. Du Pont kidnaps her and a few others to act as a forced surgery team.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Shego and Kim are both lesbian. In the cartoon, they've both shown attraction towards men.
  • Age-Gap Romance: Kim is still in high school while Shego graduated college several years ago. Their difference in maturity causes troubles with their relationship.
  • Alternate Universe Fic: The first fic starts a few months before Kim Possible Movie: So the Drama.
  • Bittersweet Ending:
    • In The Touch of Green Fire, Shego survives but she runs off back with Drakken in order to avoid being arrested.
    • The Healer'a Touch ends in Ann being saved and Shego being let free by Dr. Director. However, Shego breaks Kim's heart to keep her at a distance.
  • Closet Key: Shego is one for Kim. As of the start of A Touch of Drama, Kim is still insecure in her sexuality and is in denial about it, but Shego is the first woman she's ever loved.
  • Deconstruction Fic: The Healer's Touch deconstructs Dating Catwoman along with the age gap between Shego and Kim. Kim may be mature, but she's still only a school aged. Shego also doesn't enjoy the thought of Kim getting in trouble or being corrupted because she's dating Shego, so she distances herself from Kim.
  • Convulsive Seizures: At one point Shego has a seizure and, though it wasn't shown on-screen, it's implied that it was of this sort. It also causes her to Stress Vomit on Kim.
  • Eye Colour Change: The comet not only changed Shego's hair colour from black to green-tinted, but her eyes changed from blue to green. They begin reverting back to blue due to her power-draining illness.
  • Fictional Disability: Shego's body starts to fail as a side-effect of using her powers too much. Subverted in that she's actually sick due to nanotechnology put in her blood by her ex-girlfriend Teryl.
  • Freakiness Shame: When she was younger, Shego disliked her plasma powers. She thought they made her dangerous.
  • Gayngst: Kim just wants to be a "normal" teenage girl, so she goes into denial upon realizing that she might be gay. She tries to date boys because that's what she thinks she should be doing, not because she likes them.
  • Goth: In university, Shego was into goth fashion. She was somewhat of a Perky Goth but was also noted to have been introverted and apathetic. Shego was gothic precisely because the fashion helped hide her skin colour and gave her an excuse to wear gloves.
  • Incompatible Orientation: Ron is in love with Kim, but she only likes him as a friend. Unbeknownst to him, she's a lesbian.
  • Love at First Sight: Shego is smitten with Teryl from their Crash-Into Hello, however she doesn't recognize it at first.
  • Mentor in Queerness: Downplayed. Shego is an alluring older woman who already understands her sexuality. This attracts Kim to her. Shego is there to help her to a degree,
  • Malfunction Malady: Shego's illness causes her powers to dissipate. As a result, she can't make much plasma when she tries to and it leaves her winded.
  • Mistaken for Romance: Kim wonders if Shego and Drakken are lovers because they're so close. It turns out that they're Like Brother and Sister. Shego is lesbian anyway, while Drakken is Married to the Job and likely asexual.
  • My Blood Runs Hot: Shego's temperature is five degrees higher than normal due to her higher metabolism. She also has a higher blood pressure.
  • Mythology Gag: Shego mentions that she could likely survive getting kicked into an electrical tower, which Kim is unnerved to imagine. This references the end of So the Drama where Kim does kick her and Shego survives. This is also a Call-Forward to the scene in A Touch of Drama.
  • No Periods, Period: Averted when in chapter 1 Drakken asks Shego if she's on her period to explain her odd behavior.
  • Not That There's Anything Wrong with That: Kim has this reaction when Shego comes out to her.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Drakken tries to get into the hospital by pretending to be a teenager wearing a hat and black overalls with flowers on them. Ron doesn't buy it.
  • Parental Abandonment: Shego's parents died in a car crash. The day of the funeral was the same day the comet struck.
  • Politically Incorrect Hero:
    • Kim has some ignorant views on Shego's homosexuality when Shego comes out to her.
    • Hego and Mego are outright homophobic towards Shego.
  • Relative Error: When a sick Shego starts mumbling about a man named "Hank", Drakken thinks she has a lover in her bed. She's actually talking about her brother Hego and is too delusional to recognize where she is.
  • Security Blanket: Shego's gloves are treated as originally being used for security reasons.
  • Speak in Unison: Even as four year olds the Wego twins acted more like one person.
  • Spell My Name With An S:
    • Kim's name is intentionally spelled "Kimberlee", not "Kimberly" as in canon.
    • Anne's name is spelled "Ann" because the fic predates the canonical spelling.
  • Vomit Discretion Shot: When Shego had a seizure she ended up vomitting onto Kim. It isn't shown on-screen, with instead the story lapsing into a dream flashback that Shego has while she's unconscious.
  • Wake Up, Go to School & Save the World: A reason why Shego quit Team Go is because she couldn't handle school and crime-fighting.
