Fanfic / The Egg Team

Go To

The Egg Team (Stylized as The E(gg)-Team) is a Sonic Fanfiction written by Krafter and published in 2021. It focuses on three characters, Luna, Kit, and Teddy, being forced to work for Eggman. Aside from the general risks of working under Eggman, the trio also have to deal with Metal Sonic, who attempts to kill the trio for taking his spot as Eggman's most important asset. The story currently has 10 chapters out, and you can read it here

The E(gg)-Team contains examples of:

  • Angrish: After being told by Luna that the trio sawed a giant hole through the basement door to escape from Metal Sonic, Eggman's response is described as being unintelligible due to his anger.
  • Ankle Drag: All three members of the trio are dragged back to the airship by Eggpawns this way after Metal Sonic incapacitates them at the end of Chapter 5.
  • Artificial Limbs: Teddy has a mechanical arm given to him by Dr. Eggman, after his arm gets crushed during the attack on Honeycomb Village. In addition to functioning perfectly as an arm, it can also throw orbs of electricity.
  • Call-Back: When returning to the city to steal a Chaos Emerald, the trio ends up heading back to the same bakery that Luna and Teddy went to the first time they went to the city. Once they get there, Teddy orders chocolate cupcakes for everyone, the same way that Luna got him one to comfort him after being reminded about his home being destroyed.
  • Companion Cube: Downplayed in the form of Teddy's Sonic plush that he earns after completing his training. He seems quite fond of it, saying that it looks really cute. However, it gets about as much time in the story as his family, and is only present in two scenes. It returns in Chapter 6, where he makes it watch him practice his aim with his mechanical arm
  • Cordon Bleugh Chef: Teddy in Chapter 6. Justified in that he has to salvage ingredients from prepackaged meals, none of which are good in the slightest.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: After the trio attempts to run away from Sonic and Metal, Metal eventually catches up to them and knocks down all three members of the trio almost instantly, nearly killing them all.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Luna. She usually makes sarcastic comments at least once a chapter, mostly while she's around Eggman.
  • Death Glare: Metal Sonic gives one to Eggman after he finally begins fixing him after neglecting it for most of the day.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Eggman's traveling doctor plan has many flaws, most of which he creates after the inception of the plan. Some of these flaws include sending Teddy out to put up posters that do not hide the fact whatsoever that he is a villain, and not filling in Kit, who willingly applied to work for him, on the entire doctor plan. This predictably leads to Teddy finding out that this personality is fake quite easily with a little bit of convincing from the others.
  • Dismemberment Is Cheap: Teddy loses his arm after getting it crushed off during the attack on Honeycomb Village, but Eggman finds him and gives him a new mechanical arm that serves as a perfectly functional replacement.
  • Doomed Hometown: Honeycomb Village gets destroyed by Dr. Eggman at the beginning of Chapter 2, which ends up starting Teddy's adventure working under him.
  • Environmental Symbolism: After arriving in Station Square in Chapter 7, at one point the trio come across a part of the city that is full of plants growing everywhere, even on buildings. Upon seeing this, Teddy remarks that it's amazing that the plants can grow even in such a harsh environment for them, which mirrors him and his friends still managing to continue onward despite the fact that they're stuck working for Eggman.
  • Establishing Character Moment: All three members of the trio have one
    • Luna's first appearance has her insulting Eggman to his face, even with all of his threats towards her, before proceeding to fight against and destroy most of Eggman's Badniks.
    • Teddy is first introduced by being shown going through an average day in his life, which is quickly interrupted by Eggman showing up and destroying his home. After waking up in Eggman's base, Teddy panics upon finding out he has a mechanical arm, and is easily tricked into thinking Eggman is a kind traveling doctor.
    • Kit makes her way into Eggman's base by cutting open the door (Having applied after apparently seeing Luna throwing posters in a dumpster and deciding to fish one out). She introduces herself to Luna and Teddy by leaping down the stairs in a dramatic entrance... only to injure her legs as a result of this, all the while insisting that the two still try to guess who she's supposed to be.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Eggman realizes the best way to beat Sonic and his friends is to recruit other Mobians to fight them while he's repairing Metal Sonic after yet another defeat.
  • Everybody Knew Already: Eggman is shocked to find out that Teddy is aware that he isn't really a traveling doctor during the hallway scene in the fifth chapter, despite his plan having many holes in it.
  • Freudian Trio: Kit is the Id of the group, as she is quick to jump into action and very confident in herself. Teddy is the ego, because while he is rather emotional and gullible sometimes, he still acts logically for the most part. Luna is the superego, as she is almost always stoic, although she does have occasional outbursts of emotion (mostly anger).
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Metal Sonic becomes jealous that Eggman is assembling a team of Mobians instead of focusing on him, and plots to destroy the team once he is fully repaired.
  • Hero Antagonist: Just like in canon, Sonic is a hero in this story, but he does directly oppose the trio as he believes that at least one of them is willingly working for Eggman. The trio later get in a fight with him which is interrupted before it can even actually begin by Metal Sonic showing up and attacking everyone.
  • Innocent Means Naïve: Teddy is very easily convinced that Dr. Eggman is a kind traveling doctor, and buys every single excuse Eggman comes up with to answer his questions.
  • Insistent Terminology: Before realizing that the traveling doctor persona is fake, Teddy (and all narration from his point of view) refers to Eggman as The Traveling Doctor. After he realizes the truth, this no longer happens.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: Kit wields a katana as a weapon, although she doesn't have any formal training with it.
  • Mysterious Past: Luna seems to have gone through something before Eggman finds her, and she apparently has someone that she needs to get back to.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Teddy pretends to believe Eggman's terrible excuses to the inconsistencies in his doctor facade, as he knew it was the only way he would be able to leave.
  • Original Character: Luna, Kit, and Teddy (and Barnaby) are all original characters created by Krafter.
  • Pet the Dog: For the most part, Luna seems to not like the other members of the trio, but she does get one moment of kindness in the third chapter. While Teddy is crying after remembering what happened to his home, Luna gives him a small cupcake to cheer him up, which he greatly appreciates.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: The entire first arc of the story. Everything builds up to the trio fighting against Sonic, but not only do they end up not fighting Sonic, their attempt to escape also fails, as Metal attacks them and leaves them vulnerable to being dragged back to Eggman's base.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Barnaby and Teddy's parents are only present in the story for a very small amount of time, but they're Teddy's main motivation for trying to get free from Eggman.
  • Staircase Tumble: A crabmeat tries to carry Luna down a flight of stairs into the basement, but Luna tries to escape from the robot's grasp in the fear that it will fall down the stairs. Both of them end up falling down the stairs anyway, mostly because of Luna thrashing around.
  • That Cloud Looks Like...: Teddy and Barnaby look at clouds in the beginning of chapter 2. Teddy thinks that one of the clouds he sees looks like an airship, and that's because it is an airship. More specifically, an airship piloted by Dr. Eggman that begins destroying the village a few seconds later.
  • Watch Out for That Tree!: Eggman crashes into a tree while searching for the first member of his team, and nearly falls out of his vehicle as a result. He orders his Badniks to destroy the tree afterwards, which they do.
  • You Have Failed Me: Averted. After the trio fail to defeat Sonic and are severely injured by Metal Sonic, Eggman finds a new use for them, stealing the Chaos Emeralds for him
