The Team DARK series is set in the world of RWBY and focuses on a different team of Beacon first-year students. It is written by Friendly_Neighborhood_Writer.

The first story shows the story of how the four protagonists (Deacon Temple, Adrian Church, Revon, and Kaval) all met and became friends. The series runs concurrently along side canon while starting out with the initiation.

Stories in the series:

Unfortunately, the stories appear to be deleted by the author.

Tropes in the series include:

  • The Alcoholic:
    • Aspen became one after he quit being a cop.
    • Alison Clover had problems with alcoholism.
  • All for Nothing: Played for Laughs. Kaval wanted to make a big deal out of asking Revon to date him and even saved up thousands of Lien to go to a fancy restaurant. Deacon and Adrian even stood by for moral support. And that is all rendered moot when Revon reveals that he thought they already were dating. While Revon still thought the gesture was sweet, Deacon is especially pissed about it because he gave up a much-needed nap he was going to take to help his friend with the date.
Deacon: Are you fucking kidding me?
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Deacon jokes that his mom would be happy to show off his baby pictures.
  • Ascended Extra: Velvet.
  • Ax-Crazy: Alex. For starters, he abducted Deacon and cut a large gash across his face just to show the rest of DARK he wasn’t messing around.
  • Bad Boss: Alex loves violence and gets excited even when his own men start getting taken out. He also showed no concern when six of them were disintegrated and abandons the other four to die in the burning factory to make his escape.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Adrian is a sweet (if incredibly stupid) person… until you threaten Deacon or hurt his friends.
  • Big Bad: Alex Clover. A sadist who wants DARK to play his “games”.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: Cardin. He tried to act tough around DARK, but he was even less threatening to them than he was towards RWBY and JNPR.
  • Butt-Monkey: Deacon gets it almost as bad as Jaune.
  • The Cameo: Ruby, Weiss, Glynda, Ozpin, Coco, Oobleck, and Port have all had brief scenes. Some of the others are alluded too.
  • Camp Gay: Downplayed with Revon. While he is incredibly feminine, he doesn’t have stereotypical gay qualities.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: Deacon has to constantly look out for Adrian. Lampshaded by the latter when speaking with a waitress at the Red Clover:
Summers: I'm sorry about your friend. Do you still want to order?
Adrian: Um… sure. I'll have one of everything please.
    Summers: What? That's a lot.
Adrian: Yes, it is. But I have over a thousand lien, and you just threw out my only form of impulse control.
  • Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: Adrian, for all his stupidity, didn’t get into Beacon Academy for nothing. He tackled and decapitated an alpha beowulf, tackled Cardin and beat him until he weeped, and vaporized six of Alex’s men with his semblance, eventually causing the sadistic teen to runoff himself.
  • The Cutie: Revon and Velvet.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Deacon and Verde definitely qualify.
  • Dirty Coward:
    • Cardin acts all tough, but he has run away from two fights. When he actually stays after starting one with DARK and LVDR, Adrian renders him a sobbing mess rather quickly.
    • The rest of CRDL isn’t any better. Cardin must be really desperate for friends, considering he’s still with them even after they ditched him to grab to artifacts when an Alpha Beowulf and Ursa Major arrived at the ruins.
    • Alex immediately drops his cheerful sadism and panics when the tables turn on him.
  • Enfant Terrible: Alex has been the way he is since he was twelve.
  • Even the Guys Want Him: Even Deacon and Adrian, who have shown no attraction to guys, can admit that Revon is flat-out beautiful.
  • Everyone Can See It: Apparently, Kaval was convinced that he and Revon weren't dating even though they held hands and did a lot of romantic stuff together. Deacon and Adrian thought they already were dating. Revon sets the record straight when Kaval asks to date him.
  • Evil Mentor: Mr. Confetti was this to Alex.
  • Fat Bastard: Five years after Alex met Mr. Confetti, the man has gained a considerable amount of weight and has lost none of his vile nature.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Alex is very cheerful, which makes him all the more disturbing when he shows off Deacon’s cut face or painfully electrocuted Revon and Kaval.
  • Fluffy the Terrible: Mr. Confetti is a homophobic, misanthropic serial killer who kills just because people annoy him.
  • Follow the Chaos: When Revon and Kaval loose Adrian, they find him climbing on top of a runaway ice-cream truck.
  • For the Evulz: Alex gleefully admits that he is only tormenting Team DARK and several other Beacon first-years for fun. Mr. Confetti taught him to just embrace that reasoning.
  • Freudian Excuse: Defied by Alex and his mentor, Mr. Confetti. He has a tragic past involving the abuse at the hands of his mother, but he never uses it to excuse his actions. It's not the reason that he likes killing people and Confetti taught him to own up to that.
  • The Gadfly: Coco decides to tell Velvet about Deacon's outburst even after he begs her not to say anything.
  • Hates Everyone Equally: Mr. Confetti is homophobic, but he just generally hates interacting with people. He only takes Alex in because he wants the kid to grow up like him.
  • Hero Killer: When Alex electrocuted Revon and Kaval after soaking them in water, the latter’s heart stopped. He was revived by Revon.
  • Jerkass:
    • Par for the course for CRDL.
    • Alex is sarcastic, condescending sadist who acts like he’s on top of every situation.
  • Knight of Cerebus:
  • Large Ham: The officer who got his coffee spilled by the runaway ice-cream truck. He drops to his knees and screams to the heavens about the loss. His partner reminds him that he has the receipts for it and they can get two more cups for free.
  • Lethally Stupid: Adrian Church. So much so that Ironwood of all people created something called "Adrian Insurance" to cover it.
  • Loon with a Heart of Gold: Adrian is a great guy at heart. He's just insanely idiotic.
  • My Greatest Failure: Aspen quit being a cop because he refused to shoot the twelve-year-old Alex when he was about to kill an officer.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: Team DARK continuously does a lot of great things in the story such as defeating an Alpha Beowolf and stopping an Ax-Crazy Serial Killer, but they are upstaged by RWBY and JNPR's actions of defeating a Nevermore and a Deathstalker as well as the White Fang dock incident respectively.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: Mr. Confetti is homophobic because his gay parents abused him.
  • Psycho Electro: Alex's Semblance allows him to shoot electricity from his hands.
  • Real After All: Ozpin (naturally) doesn't believe Deacon when he mentions that there is such a thing as "Adrian Insurance" for his friend's stupidity. Deacon tells him to call Ironwood to confirm this… and confirm it he did. When he realizes he how much he could've saved from this, he spits his coffee on the window.
  • Retired Monster: Mr. Confetti gained a lot of weight and lost much of his strength, so he doesn't kill people anymore. However, Alex plans to bring him out of retirement.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: Revon is a male example since he isn't particularly embarrassed when he catches Kaval perving on him in the shower.
  • Shout-Out: There is a restaurant called The Red Clover, and one of its waitresses' surname is Summers. Interestingly enough, the author of this fic wrote the first fanfic the series had.
  • Smug Snake:
    • CRDL act like a bunch of tough guys, then hightail it at the first sign of trouble.
    • Alex is extremely condescending up and until the situation spirals out of his control.
  • The Sociopath: All signs point to Alex being one.
  • Teens Are Monsters: Alex, the Big Bad. He’s a violent, cheerful sadist, but he’s no older than DARK.
  • Tempting Fate: Deacon has two notable run-ins with this:
    • After getting kicked out of the Red Clover, he notes that his night couldn't get any worse. Cue the Big Bad harassing him over the phone.
    • A positive example happens at the end when he says that the night won't be getting any better. Suddenly, Velvet (his crush) calls him to ask him out on a date and his mood improves.
  • Tom the Dark Lord: "Alex Clover" isn't really that threatening of a name for a villain.
  • Uncleanliness Is Next to Ungodliness: Mr. Confetti's apartment is absolutely filthy. Five years after meeting Alex, his personal appearance has caught up with it.
  • Winged Humanoid: Revon is a Faunus with bat wings.
  • Wouldn't Hurt a Child: Aspen had the chance to kill Alex when the latter was twelve, but he just couldn't bring himself to do it. This is why he gave up his badge.
