“Good morning, everyone! My name is Mr. Yagi, and I’m going to be taking over your English class for the rest of the year.”
Toshinori Yagi

Statistic is a My Hero Academia story written by Aconstantstateofbladerunner.

In a world where All for One was defeated the first time around, new villainous groups are constantly bubbling up just under the surface of society. New crimes need new tactics, so in an effort to flush out an alleged anti-quirkless group, All Might decides to go undercover as Yagi Toshinori, quirkless middle school teacher. But Toshinori hasn't been quirkless in a long time, and he learns the hard way how much things have changed.

Statistic provides examples of:

  • Apathetic Teacher: The Aldera staff couple this with a blatant prejudice against the Quirkless. When All Might begins working undercover as Toshinori Yagi, the counselor is only too happy to entrust Izuku to him, claiming that he needs a "good role model to help him get over his victim complex." All of his coworkers also joke about the possibility of Izuku "becoming just another statistic" when he doesn't show up to school the next day.
  • Alternate Universe Fic: The story is set in a world where All Might was able to successfully defeat All For One in their first encounter.
  • Blaming the Victim: While working undercover as a teacher at Aldera, Toshinori quickly discovers that all of his fellow teachers and staff blame Izuku for being bullied. They also refuse to take Toshinori's concerns seriously, as he himself claimed to be Quirkless on his first day of work. And Toshinori finally calls them all out, leading Maita to smugly declare that he is displaying "the Quirkless victim complex".
  • Cassandra Truth:
    • Toshinori learns the hard way that all of his fellow teachers at Aldera willfully ignore the Barbaric Bullying that occurs there. Every time he tries to report what's going on, they treat it as rumours, accusing him of making things up... just like they accuse Izuku of making the abuse up.
    • The blonde hero spitefully invokes this trope after he reveals his true form to the Aldera staff while returning to work the next day.
  • Ironic Echo: Toshinori was repeatedly told not to bother reporting the barbaric bullying and casual cruelties that occur in Aldera, as no one will believe he is telling the truth since he has no Quirk. After he reveals himself as All Might in front of everyone, and the entire district is embroiled in legal trouble, his coworkers are stunned when, at the end of the story, he walks right into work the next day and tells them that "No one will believe them."
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": The reaction of the entire Aldera staff when Toshinori, after enduring constant abuse and ridicule from the rest of his co-workers, finally reveals himself as All Might in front of them.
  • Not Me This Time: Contrary to most fics where Bakugou would be the ringleader behind any stunt used to terrorize Izuku, he has no involvement in Izuku's abduction by his classmate and father apart from being the motivation for the classmate's actions.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: The main antagonist of the story, apart from Toshi's apathetic coworkers and Izuku's bullies, turns out to be a classmate who wanted to get in Bakugou's good graces by excessively harming his Quirkless target. It doesn't help that he gained assistance, physically and emotionally, from his father who genuinely hates Quirkless people and is more than willing to kill them.
  • Smug Snake: Maita embodies everything wrong with Aldera, being casually and openly Quirkist, confident that everyone around him either shares his views or is effectively powerless to do anything about them. He enjoys rubbing this in Toshinori's face, making it all the more satisfying when Toshinori finally shuts him up by revealing his true identity.
  • Sucky School: All of Aldera Middle School is presented like this throughout the story. All Might learns firsthand how horrible the school is after he decides to start working there as a Quirkless Toshinori Yagi. Not only do Katsuki and most of the other students immediately decide that the new teacher is not worth listening to due to his lack of Quirk, but his new coworkers make no secret of their own contempt, openly mocking Toshinori and dismissing any complaints by stating that they are "just kidding". They also repeatedly insist that no one will ever believe any of their or Izuku's claims about the bullying that happens at school, even making jokes when Izuku disappears one day.
  • Suicide Dare: During a conversation with his co-workers, Toshinori grimly points out that referring to "statistics" on Quirkless people is frequently used as an anti-Quirkless whistle, acting as an allegory for transphobia. Inko also reveals that she doesn't let her son check the mail just because people frequently send them things like newspaper articles about people without Quirk being "a burden on society" and suicide rates, along with threats to kill him themselves if she didn't take matters into your own hands.
  • Teacher's Pet: Izuku's classmates taunt him for being Mr. Yagi's favorite student because they're both Quirkless and how he constantly steps up to protect him.
  • Title Drop: When Izuku mysteriously fails to show up for school the next day, the apathetic and openly biased teachers suggest that he's become "just another statistic" and taken his own life. Toshinori recognizes this as an anti-Quirkless dogwhistle.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: When Toshinori tries to call out his coworkers for being so dismissive of Izuku's safety simply because he doesn't have a quirk, Maita smugly accuses him of having a victim complex.
Maita: And there it is! The Quirkless victim complex! Complain about how unfair the world is, but expect everyone else to do the heavy lifting to make it easier for you! Or maybe you're bitter because you think people without Quirks should be in charge by default like the good ol' days, right?
    (Fuming, Toshinori storms towards him)
Maita: I wonder how many more qualified teachers you took this job from so the school could claim diver—
(Toshinori transforms into All Might, instantly silencing him)
Toshinori: You can expect a criminal investigation for discrimination and child neglect by the end of the week.
