Fanfic / Rewriting Transformers

Go To

"Rewriting Transformers" is a Fix Fic series written by Phoenix Studios. The series is an attempt to rewrite the Transformers Film Series and turn it into a better piece of fiction.

Rewrites consists of:

The page contains the following tropes:

  • Abled in the Adaptation: Chip Chase walks, rather than being confined to a wheelchair like in the G1 T.V. show. Subverted come the midpoint of the 3rd entry.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Wheeljack debuts in the 2nd installment, not in the 3rd, Dark of the Moon.
  • Adaptational Heroism: In Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Sentinel Prime was already a turncoat and worked with the Decepticons. Here, Sentinel only started to betray his fellow Autobots in the present day, after Megatron manages to convince him, and he pulled his Face-Heel Turn with a heavy heart.
  • Adaptational Name Change:
    • Sam Witwicky is changed into Spike.
    • Ron Witwicky is renamed Irving, and given the nickname "Sparkplug".
  • Adapted Out:
  • Age Lift: Jetfire was an Old Master in Revenge of the Fallen. Here, he's Starscream's equal as in Generation 1.
  • Ascended Extra: Lennox, Epps and their comrades are given more of a significant role in order to make them mirror counterparts to the main Autobot team.
    • Shockwave's role from the original "Dark of the Moon" is vastly expanded into the obstacle that stands between the Autobots and Sentinel Prime's safety, as well as the logical foil to Starscream.
  • Bittersweet Ending: At the end of Transformers 3, the Decepticons have agreed to an armistice with the Autobots, humanity is saved, the invasion is over, and Doctor Arkeville and Sentinel Prime are soundly defeated, but the United States have still suffered tremendous damage, Mirage and Wheeljack are dead, and for defying the decrees of the government, most of those who have fought alongside the Autobots in their battles have turned against them, and the humans now have access to weapons that can hurt and kill them. As a result, Optimus Prime and the others will need to go into hiding for a long time to come, and though he hangs onto his faith, the future of the Transformers on Earth is uncertain.
  • Central Theme: In Trasformers 2, it's Faith in Leadership. Bumblebee is forced to become acting leader of the Autobots after Optimus Prime is taken out of action, and he matures from there.
  • Comic-Book Fantasy Casting: Phoenix imagines Chip Chase being played by Dave Franco here.
  • Composite Character: Just like in the IDW comics, Irving has a background in the military, and Spike joins them.
    • Liege Maximo bears Megatronus Prime's status of "The Fallen", along with the history behind how that title was earned.
  • Death by Adaptation: Sparkplug dies after trying to save Chip.
  • Decoy Protagonist: Spike is described as one in the 2nd installment. While the story is told from his perspective, he's ultimately this to Bumblebee.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation:
    • In "Revenge of the Fallen", the Fallen was killed by Optimus but in the rewrite, he is killed by Megatron who cannot stand the treatment his master gave him.
    • Sideswipe dies destroying the Constructicons alongside Sunstreaker instead of being Killed Offscreen by Cemetery Wind.
    • Jetfire sacrifices himself to destroy the Star Harvester.
    • Starscream, instead of being killed in action by Sam/Spike, is executed by Megatron.
    • Megatron is slain by Sentinel Prime stabbing and blasting him through the back, rather than Optimus Prime beheading him.
  • Fetch Quest: The Autobots and NEST travel around the world in search of rare metals they can use to help the wounded Optimus.
  • Full-Conversion Cyborg: Doctor Arkeville before the climatic battle in Washington, thanks to the Decepticons replacing all but a few of his organic components with Cybertronian technology.
  • Fusion Fic: This version of Revenge of the Fallen takes inspiration from the G1 episodes "Divide and Conquer", "Fire in the Sky" and "Fire on the Mountain", much like how the original shares a similar plot with "Changing Gears".
  • Heroic Sacrifice:
    • Sideswipe blows himself up to destroy Bonecrusher.
    • Jetfire dies destroying the Star Harvester.
    • Mirage gives his life to down the Nemesis with a virus during the final battle in Washington, and he goes down with it.
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal:
    • After the Fallen diminishes and berates him, Megatron murders his former mentor and takes over as leader of the Decepticons.
    • Megatron receives this by Starscream who is fed up being on the receiving end of his abuse.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • The battle between Optimus Prime and Megatron atop the Hoover Dam is a deliberate reference to their battle on the Sherman Dam in the second part of "More Than Meets The Eye".
    • The base used by NEST and the Autobots is nicknamed Autobot City.
    • Megatron's line "Here's a hint" before killing Starscream references to the cartoon movie where his upgraded counterpart, Galvatron kills that Starscream.
  • Put on a Bus: Agent Simmons does not come back for the events of the 2nd and 3rd installments.
  • Rank Up: For his heroic efforts, Bumblebee is promoted by Prime from scout to sergeant.
  • Spared by the Adaptation:
    • Unlike his movie counterpart, Megatron survives the Allspark lodged into him.
    • In an interesting case, Optimus doesn't die in the fight that left him out from much of the movie. He only falls into a coma and goes through a Vision Quest.
    • In the 1st installment, First Sergeant Patrick Donnelly, who originally died by Scorponok's tail, survives Ravage's assault on Lennox's ranger team.
    • Unlike the original film, Shockwave survives the finale of the 3rd installment, even winding up as the last named Decepticon standing by the end.
  • Suddenly Voiced: Bumblebee's voice box is restored by the Allspark at the climax of the 1st entry.
  • Team Member in the Adaptation: In this rewrite series, Ironhide is the commander, and a close friend, of the Wreckers, whom he had no connections to in the original films beyond being an Autobot ally.
  • Vision Quest: While in comatose, Optimus is judged by the Thirteen Primes who want to determine if he is ready to join them in the afterlife.
