"It seems as though Spider-Man, Natsuki Subaru’s adventures, had yet to end. Perhaps, they are only just beginning."

Re: Avenger is a Crossover fanfic between Re:Zero and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with elements from the Marvel Comics, written by Just-Another-Marvel-DC-Geek.

During the final battle against Thanos, the hero who sacrifices himself to finish him off is not Tony Stark/Iron Man, but Subaru Natsuki/Spider-Man, using The Infinity Gauntlet to erase him, killing him along with his AI partner, Karen.

However, as he dies, Subaru and Karen find themselves in a medieval fantasy world called Lugnica, and wandering the streets, they meet a white-haired half-elf looking for something that was stolen from her...

It can be read on here and here.

Re: Avenger contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Badass: In Re:Zero canon, Subaru was a NEET with poor physical prowess, to the point where he could only beat a 13-year-old girl. Spider!Subaru is experienced enough to fight on par with Elsa, and even defeat (albeit with some difficulty) Julius in his duel.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: In Canon, Subaru was forced to strategize as he was too powerless to overcome the mental and physical hurdles to progress in the story. Spider!Subaru is much more intelligent beyond typical strategizing, as he’s capable of building technological marvels, as well as learn Re:Zero’s canon language in just a few short days.
  • The Ace: Subaru is the driving force of the story, and is one of the reasons for the major success against most cataclysmic threats such as the Witch Cult. Due to his abilities, and the power of Return by Death, he is able to plan and conquer threats that arise, making him a valuable asset amongst the cast.
  • Action Hero: He’s Spider-Man and Natsuki Subaru. Too unlucky beings fused into one. He faces conflict two-fold. It’s in the job description.
  • Adaptational Backstory Change: Unlike canon, where Subaru regressed to your typical shut-in after failing to live up to his fathers image, this Subaru is much more confident. As although he lost his parents, he learned to gain confidence in his abilities, which reached a new level upon being bitten by a radioactive spider.
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: Although Subaru has shown to find Emilia attractive, there are no consistent romantic advances made on his side. He has also never made a declaration of love towards her in either Arc 3 or Arc 4. there relationship is portrayed as a tight-knit friendship.
  • Adaptational Nationality: Subaru was born in Japan like Canon, although most of his life was lived in America when his parents moved there.
  • Adaptational Modesty: instead of his signature tracksuit, Subaru shows up in his battle-worn suit he wore during the climax of Thanos vs the Avengers. Uatu also upgrades him with a Vibranium spider-man suit to fight Ultron with.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: regarding the characters of Re: Zero:
    • Satella/Witch of Envy, despite being indirectly present throughout the story, would not make a physical appearance until Arc 4. Here, she appears in the Prologue.
    • Roswaal L. Mathers appears in the Prologue, while his first canonical appearance was in Arc 2.
    • Flop and Medium O'Connell, characters that debuted in Arc 7, joins the fight against the White Whale in Arc 3.
  • Arrested for Heroism: Immediately returning home after the battle against Ultron, Subaru is arrested by Reinhard and taken to trail for his crimes due to orders by the Sage Council. despite his good deeds, Subaru is blamed for Ultron’s invasion.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: This is Subaru, due to the many inventions he makes to help accustom himself in a far less-developed world. He also seems to want to help it progress, as this is one of his motivations within the story.
  • Back from the Dead: Subaru died during the events of Avengers: Infinity War, and was resurrected for the final battle against Thanos.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Being a hero, Subaru doesn’t need much motivation when it comes to saving others. This is highlighted in Arc 3, when Crusch and Felix ask why Subaru wants to save the village, to whomst he replies and says they were his friends, and “that’s what a hero would do.”
  • Bullying a Dragon: the three thugs (Rachis "Chin" Hoffman, Camberley "Kan" and Gaston "Ton") try to threaten Spider!Subaru to rob them. It ends as one would expect.
  • Death by Adaptation: In Re:Zero canon, Subaru's parents Kenichi and Naoko were alive at the time Subaru was summoned to Lugnica. Here, they were killed by Hammer droids during the events of Iron Man 2.
  • Fantastic Racism: Subaru witnesses the discrimination to Emilia and other demi-humans.
  • Fish out of Water: Downplayed. This is Subaru upon being transported, although due to the fantasy genre back on earth, he’s able to gain an understanding of the setting far easier, much like canon.
  • Hates Rich People: Subverted. Although Subaru wouldn’t preach for the downfall of the upper-class, he isn’t afraid to make his displeasure of them known. One big example is in Arc 3, where he goes on a speech about how incompetent the ruling-class has been during the Royal Selection.
  • For Want Of A Nail:
    • Natsuki Subaru replaces Peter Parker in the role of Spider-Man.
      • Natsuki Subaru/Spider-Man is the one who uses the Infinity Stones to eliminate Thanos and his army at the cost of his own life, instead of Tony Stark/Iron Man.
    • Arc 1:
      • Being an Adaptational Badass, Subaru wipes the floor with Chin, Kan, and Ton.
      • While helping Emilia, he ends up catching the eye of Reinhard, who decides to follow them when he hears that Emilia's Insignia was stolen.
      • Subaru manages to decently hold his own against Elsa long enough for Reinhard to come to the rescue.
    • Arc 2:
      • When they arrive at the mansion, Rem is immediately suspicious of Subaru, notifies Ram, and as they plan what to do with him, they are stopped by Karen, who was in the same room.
      • Subaru confronts Rem about her hostility towards him, he reveals that she has the Witch's miasma, but thanks to Karen he manages to prove that she is from another world.
  • Genre Savvy: Like MCU Peter, Subaru often references many things from earth, notably pop culture.
  • Go Out with a Smile: Subaru, despite the pain and tears of his death, smiles in an attempt to calm Tony down and celebrate that they won the battle.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Subaru decides, as part of Strange's plan, to use the Gauntlet to defeat Thanos, even knowing that the resulting cosmic and gamma energies will kill him.
  • In Spite of a Nail: even though Subaru is Spider-Man, that doesn't mean everything changes:
    • An Avenger sacrifices himself by using the Infinity Stones to defeat Thanos at the cost of his life.
    • Arc 1:
      • Subaru has been attracted to Emilia since he first saw her and decides to help her find her Badge.
      • Subaru meets Reinhard.
      • Subaru and Emilia take their time to help the Plum girl reunite with her parents.
      • Subaru attempts to retrieve the Badge from Felt and Rom.
      • Elsa decides to kill Subaru, Emilia, Puck, Felt, and Rom in order to steal the Badge and leave no witnesses behind.
      • Rom is knocked out by Elsa.
      • Subaru asks Felt to run away to get help.
      • Reinhard destroys the Loot House in his fight against Elsa.
      • Elsa tries one last attack, but is stopped by Subaru, and decides to run away.
      • Subaru faints after the battle (although this time it was from exhaustion, not because Elsa managed to hurt him).
      • Reinhard discovers that Felt is the last contender for the throne of Lugnica, and decides to knock her out to take her away.
  • Instant Fan Club: during Arc 3, Rem ends up saving a group of knights and nobles from an enraged Petelgeuse, breaking several bones. This act earns her a group of admirers who seek to get closer to her and openly despise Subaru.
  • Parental Substitute: Subaru's relationship with Tony.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Ultron does this to both Subaru and Reinhard when he battles them.
  • Silly Rabbit, Idealism Is for Kids!!: Subaru often goes overboard with his heroic tendencies, which end up with him being perceived as naive, as well as viewing everything with rose-tinted glasses. This is especially called out at the end of Arc 3 when Crusch says Subaru is arrogant to think he can stay on top everything, especially when the latter thinks he can keep Puck in line, who Subaru views as a threat from failed loops.
  • Outside-Context Problem: Although Lugunica was given a heads-up by Spider!Subaru, they couldn’t have possibly found anyway to prepare against a dimensional threat known as Ultron.
    • That’s why at first, the cast wondered if Subaru had perhaps gone insane when he started speaking of a threat that eclipsed the dreaded Witch of Envy. So when Ultron arrived, this leaded to a Curb-Stomp Battle: Downplayed.
    • Ultron had ruthlessly made easy-work of Re:Zero’s medieval forces. It was only due to the Sword Saint, Reinhard, and Uatu’s sudden arrival and formation of the Guardians of the Multiverse, were they able to stop him.
  • Ship Tease: There are hints for a potential Harem, seeing as Crusch devised a plan to get closer to Subaru under the guise of dinner under her roof. The other Royal Candidates, with the exclusion of Felt, have made remarks that imply their infatuation with Subaru.
  • Adaptation Deviation: Unlike Canon, Felix is the one to fall to gluttony in Rem and Crusch’s place. Although, he leaves relatively unharmed, despite losing his name.
    • Subaru does not stay in Emilia’s camp. Instead, he decides to stay neutral in the Royal Selection to prevent bloodshed on either side.
    • Roswaal’s crimes are not kept an Emilia camp secret. Instead, he stands trial in front of the whole kingdom for his misdeeds following Arc 4.
    • Medium and Flop, characters who don’t show until Arc 7, are present in the White Whale expedition.
    • Priscilla, Crusch, and Anastasia decide to follow the Witch Cult hunt in the Mather’s domain. Also, Crusch and Priscilla are the ones to fight Petelguese directly instead of Subaru and Julius at first.
    • In Arc 4, Frederica, with the help of the Iron Fang, manage to detain Elsa. Also, Elsa lives, instead of dying to Garfiel throwing a mabeast atop her.
    • Subaru, Ram, and Garfiel are the ones to fight Roswaal, when it had originally been Ram and Puck.
