A series of MST-style reaction fanfics created by Deadman513.

The series follows the chaos god Deadman, who sets out to relieve his boredom by bring about mischief and change to the worlds he visits. His most recent targets are Equestria and its Human World counterpart. The original story in the series was The Mane 6 Watch Death Battle, where the Mane 6, Spike, and several of their friends react to episodes of DEATH BATTLE!, provided the equipment to do so by Deadman.

The fanfic was a quick success and quickly spawned several spin-offs; Sunset and Her Group Watch Red vs. Blue, Royals Watch Text-To-Speech, Some Girls Watching Hellsing Ultimate Abridged, Watching SAO Abridged, Sunset and Crew Watching Final Fantasy VII: Machinabridged, and Sunset and Co. watching Helluva Boss.

The stories can all be read on Deadman513's Wattpad account and Deviantart account.

This series of fanfics provides examples of:

  • Adaptation Personality Change: Sunset Shimer here is a Lovable Sex Maniac who will flirt and sleep with many different girls, including her friends, and has a love for guns and crazy weapons that could rival that of Rocket Raccoon.
  • Always a Bigger Fish: Deadman is shown to be this for just about everyone in Equestria. Even dangerous villains like Chrysalis and Tirek are helpless against him and are forced to cooperate with him.
  • Author Avatar: The character Deadman is obviously one for the author Deadman. His editor Trepp also gets one.
  • Been There, Shaped History: It is heavily implied that The Dazzlings knew Jack the Ripper and were friends of his. Though it is hinted that only Sonata is completely unaware of his true nature.
  • Berserk Button: Sci-Twi hates the Twilight Saga, mostly because it has her name in the title.
  • Break the Cutie: Happens to Pinkie Pie in "Joker VS Sweet Tooth". Seeing how the two psychopaths use jokes and comedy for evil and demonize her Element of Harmony does a real big number on her, with her spending nearly the entire episode depressed and near traumatized.
  • Brought Down to Normal: As part of The Dazzlings losing their magic back in Rainbow Rocks, whenever they return to Equestria they turn into ponies instead of their true Siren forms. Sonata becomes a Pegasus, Aria becomes an Earth Pony, and Adagio becomes a Unicorn.
  • Call-Back: Vice-Principal Luna recalls having a crush on Bruce Wayne when reading the Batman comics. This is similar to how her pony counterpart got a crush on Batman from watching his fight against Captain America.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Sci-Twi and some of the Shadowbolts get jealous when Sunset gets close to Justina.
  • Comical Overreacting: In the first chapter of Sunset and Co. watching Helluva Boss, Sunset freaks out when she realizes that Twilight tricked her into coming to an intervention and tries to run away before realizing she's been locked in. Shortly afterwards when she finds out that they want her to watch a PSA she pulls out a gun, but rather than trying to Shoot the Television she turns the gun on herself. She fails because she realizes she is out of bullets due to shooting the pigeon that took a crap on her motorcycle.
  • Companion Cube: Fluttershy loves her Doomguy Plushie, being seen with it in almost every scene after she gets it. And she even gets a Guts plushie later. Though quite a few scenes imply they might actually be alive.
  • Cooldown Hug:
    • At the end of "Pokémon VS Digimon", the CMC each hug their Pokémon partners while crying, having witnessed the gruesome deaths of Red and his partner Charizard.
    • After Pinkie is traumatized by Joker and Needles, her sister Maud visits to make sure she is all right, and the two sisters hug it out.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: Starlight Glimmer's sub-plot for Season 1 of The Mane 6 Watch Death Battle, is her trying to find her way back to Twilight's castle after her train crashes and enduring obstacle after obstacle. When she finally makes it back after "Pikachu VS Blanka", Twilight points out to her that she could have just teleported back. Starlight forgetting this may have actually been enforced though, when the next chapter reveals that Deadman purposely put Starlight through all that as punishment for trying to mess with time.
  • Cover Innocent Eyes and Ears: When Deadpool addresses the audience before finishing off Deathstroke, telling all the children to cover their eyes (and directly addressing Spike), Twilight covers Spike's eyes for him before Deadpool continues.
  • Dating Catwoman: It is revealed that Torch and Aria used to date in the past. Although Aria is dating Sunset now (same as her sisters are) she still teases him when they meet again, even calling him his old Embarrassing Nickname.
  • Dope Slap: After Red tells his Charizard to use "Mega Punch", Smolder says she knows that move too and demonstrates by punching Spike in the arm. While she's laughing at him though, she gets a bonk on the head from Ember, who tells her underling to behave herself.
  • Dramatic Irony: Throughout watch SAO Abridged Vice-Prinicpal Luna and Sunset each recall their own experiences with online games, recalling annoying players they had encountered, glad they don't need to deal with them in real life. Luna knows one player called Golden Sun who bullies other players and tricked her into losing a unique rare item, and Sunset gets nagged by a player called Knight Queen Moon. Neither is aware that the other is the very player online, which the reader realizes ahead of time. This drops at the end of Part 6, when Sunset brags about the event, and Luna tries to strangle her.
  • Dumbass Has a Point: Sonata is a certified genius compared to most of the idiots trapped in SAO, and it starts to show after awhile. Her sisters are actually so shocked by this side of her that they make note not to let her become too smart and plan to rot her brain back to normal afterwards.
  • Ear Worm: Sonata loves the Bucky O'Hare theme song, and always sings along with it. Adagio and Aria on the other hand hate the song because of how often Sonata sang it when the show was on. They are even more worried when Sonata's gift turns out to be the extended version of the song.
  • Enemies List: Zig-zagged; Rainbow Dash starts keeping a notebook with her she occasionally writes stuff down in. She later reveals that she is keeping track of everyone who teases her about her crush on Sonic, and intends to prank them as revenge eventually, with bigger pranks to whoever teases her more often. Though she is willing to remove marks if she brings up her crush herself, stating she is nothing if not fair.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Chrysalis, Tirek, and the Dazzlings were left utterly horrorstricken by what Guts endured as a child and during the Eclipse.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Rarity might hate Boomstick normally, but even she feels sorry for him when she hears how his father (Sarge) walked out on him when he was a kid to join the army.
  • Evil Uncle: Zig-zagged with Loki to Sunset. He has been a subtle influence on her behind the scenes throughout her life, though he isn't outright evil to her like he is to Thor, he is a bit of a toxic influence on her. He secretly gave her a pun book and got her addicted to puns, just because he knows that Thor hates puns.
  • Foe Romance Subtext: Whenever Shining Armor and Chrysalis are together, Shining understandably acts hostile to Chrysalis and hates her for what she did to him and Cadance. But Chrysalis teases him a lot, acting as if she is flirting with him, as if she were flirting with her ex.
  • Freudian Excuse: Sunset's experience at her orphanage, including the incident where she attacked another orphan who threatened her and the Caretaker for talking down to her for it, shaped her into who she is now.
  • The Gadfly: In the Ivy vs Orchid episode, the Dazzlings, while drooling over the two, are clearly also doing it just to piss off Rarity.
  • Go-Karting with Bowser: This happens whenever the characters end up having a reaction with any of the villains. The most common of these are Chrysalis, Tirek, and The Dazzlings.
  • Has a Type: Although Sunset admits she is technically bi, she has a much stricter taste for guys than girls. She admits she likes badasses, like Doom Guy, Master Chief, Kenshiro, and Travis Touchdown. She says it is because of her dad (who is Thor).
  • Halloween Episode: Some Girls Watching Hellsing Ultimate Abridged takes place on Halloween night, with the characters even dressing in costumes. This is also appropriate considering Hellsing Ultimate Abridge started as a Halloween project by Team Four Star.
  • The Hedonist: Sunset. She constantly flirts and sleeps with girls, guzzles alcohol, watches porn, smokes weed, does acid, is into exhibitionism, and is even in a BDSM relationship with the Dazzlings. If that's not a hedonist, I don't know what is.
  • Informed Judaism: Sci-Twi says she is part Jewish on her dad's side.
  • Interspecies Romance: This pops up several times throughout the series.
    • A few of the official couples are this. Sunset Shimmer is the child of Celestia and Thor (an alicorn and an Asgardian), and Sunset herself is shown to sleep a lot with the sirens and some of her human friends. Torch, a dragon, also used to date Aria Blaze, a siren, at some point in the past.
    • It is practically a Running Gag that a pony will become attracted to a character from the Sonic the Hedgehog series that is similar to them.
      • Rainbow Dash gets a crush on Sonic.
      • Scootaloo gets a crush on Tails.
      • Applejacks gets a crush on Knuckles.
    • Ember shows an attraction to Godzilla. At the end of his analysis during "Godzilla vs Gamera", she lets out a loud roar that Spike recognizes as a mating call.
    • Princess Luna gets a crush on Batman. She frowns in jealousy when seeing how many other women he has kissed, and celebrates his victory against Captain America.
    • Queen Chrysalis outright says she thinks she is in love with Guts, due to his violence and badass nature being attractive to her.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold:
    • Deadman might be mischievous and a bit cocky, but he is ultimately a nice guy who is trying to bring change to the world with his gifts. Even when he enacts Laser-Guided Karma on Starlight Glimmer, he doesn't go overboard and heals her when she starts to get weak.
    • Despite Sunset Shimmer's antics and Lovable Sex Maniac personality, she still loves all of her friends and family.
    • Aria Blaze, despite trying to put on a "bad girl" image, actually has a soft spot for kids. So, she really hates Schmidt for offering to kill orphans to the supposed ghosts of his friends.
  • Last-Second Word Swap: During "Ryu Hayabusa vs Strider Hiryu", Ember comments that anything that has "Dragon" in it's name is amazing by default, and lists a few examples before Pinkie tries to make one.
Pinkie: Oh! How about Dragon di-
Ember: Finish that sentence and I’ll incinerate you!
    Pinkie: -ctionary…?
  • Lovable Sex Maniac: Sunset, the Dazzlings, Lemon Zest and, to an extent, Indigo Zap.
  • Mad Scientist: Twilight becomes so interested in some of the technology she sees in battles that she uses her own resources, and the gifts given to them via Deadman's box, to try to create her own versions of some of them. This has lead to Spike intentionally sabotaging a few of them to stop Twilight from going too far.
  • Mentor Occupational Hazard: Lampshaded by Sunset Shimmer when hearing how Jeff Bogard, the adopted father and mentor of Terry Bogard was murdered, in addition to all the other dead mentors that have been mentioned.
Sunset: Note to self… never becomes a teacher. It has a high mortality rate.
  • My Hovercraft Is Full of Eels: When everyone sees Saba demonstrate he can speak bird in "Tigerzord VS Gundam Epyon", Fluttershy says he just ordered a salad.
  • No Fourth Wall: Several characters speak constantly as if there is no fourth wall for them.
    • Deadman himself can speak directly to the narrator of the stories.
    • Pinkie Pie already knows all about the characters and worlds they see, even implying she knows the outcomes of future battles. She also often bullies the author for slow updates on chapters.
    • Deadpool can actually change the dialogue of the episode he is in to talk directly to the audience watching, in this case the ponies and Spike.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: Fluttershy possesses an eternal hatred for Blanka due to how he ate Pikachu at the end of their battle. This also incudes Dan Hibiki by extension since he was the one who "trained" Blanka.
  • Promoted to Parent: Twilight becomes the mother to a baby Mewtwo at the end of "Mewtwo VS Shadow".
  • Pet the Dog: At the end of chapter 6 of Some Girls Watching Hellsing Ultimate Abridged, Sunset Shimmer offers Sour Sweet to get some medicine for her from Equestria to help her with her mood swings, ensuring her it will be stronger than her usual medicine and she will need to take it less often. She also ensures her she is not a freak, but a girl that needs a little help.
  • Related in the Adaptation: In canon, Sunset Shimmer was Princess Celestia's former student, but no family connection was ever established between them. Here, it is revealed that she is Celestia's biological daughter, and later is revealed to have The Mighty Thor as her father.
  • Self-Made Orphan: Turns out that Tirek murdered his own parents, but he wisely decides to keep that to himself.
  • Shout-Out: There are a lot of quotes made that reference Dragon Ball Z Abridged.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis: Boomstick is this for Rarity. She is constantly annoyed by his rude behavior, drunken antics, and womanizing attitude. She drops several Precision F-Strikes directed at him, even ones when she isn't even watching the episode of the chapter, to the point of it being a catchphrase for her.
  • The Tease: Both Sunset and Adagio love teasing and making their friends flustered. Especially sexually.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: At the end of "Luigi VS Tails", Deadman's gift to Scootaloo, rather than an item from the box like everyone usually gets, is to magically grow her wings, allowing her to finally fly.
  • Token Adult: Vice-Principal Luna is the only adult member of the group watching SAO Abridged.
  • Trauma Button:
    • Sunset remembers her childhood at her Orphanage of Fear, remembering one incident when she attacked another orphan after she sees a flashback where Seras Victoria stabbed one orphan with a pencil.
    • Sonata had a bad experience with MissingNo once, so much so that just hearing Lavender Town music brings back bad memories. It is so bad that Aria actually legitimately comforts her to calm her down.
  • Tsundere: Rainbow Dash acts like this for Sonic the Hedgehog at first. Throughout his analysis in "Mario VS Sonic" she keeps insulting him and saying how "lame" he is. The others quickly figure out that she actually has a crush on him, and she drops this attitude afterwards.
  • Unusual Euphemism: Sunny Flare isn't allowed to curse, so she shouts these instead. Like screaming "Holy cheesewheels!" when watching the first episode of Hellsing Ultimate Abridged.
  • Villain Respect: A few fighters in Death Battle have earned the respect of the villains watching due to their powers, skills, achievements, and/or determination. Tirek has even gained respect for Guts, a hero.
  • Villainous Crush: Chrysalis outright says she thinks she is in love with Guts. This is due to his violent and badass nature.
