Pinkie Tales is a series of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic videos published by Magpiepony, also known as the creator of Princess Trixie Sparkle.

The concept of the series is Pinkie Pie telling Pound Cake and Pumpkin Cake bedtime stories in the form of classic fairy tales. Pinkie being... Pinkie, however, things are rarely that simple, as she drastically changes things, often by inserting her friends as the characters of the story. She's also prone to changing details on a whim mid-story, much to the frustration of the narrator who Pinkie frequently interrupts to question about things she doesn't understand or just to comment. Needless to say Rule of Funny is invoked so that Hilarity Ensues.

An intriguing facet of the series is that each video has an entirely different cast (barring Magpiepony as Pinkie, Trixie, Granny Smith in "Sky Blue and the Seven Colors", and Chrysalis in "Slumberjack", Mic Roe Pony as Discord in both his appearances, and later TheLostNarrator as Rainbow Dash in a handful of episodes and Applejack in a couple, including "Raripunzel" and the aformentioned "Sky Blue and the Seven Colors") so production details such as artwork and narration vary, though voice actors tend to remain consistent.

These videos contain examples of:

• Adaptational Jerkass: In canon, Pinkie will, at worst, possibly reach Innocently Insensitive with some of her actions sometimes. Here, however, she is outright uncaring about what she does to the stories, has none of her usual boundaries, and refuses to stop her antics, even when it's clearly explained to her by both the characters and the narrators just what she's doing. To name a few examples:
  • She kidnaps Big Mac/Lumbermac near the end of "Little Red Riding Bloom" because she didn't have a role in the story yet and even before that, she interrupts the narrator three times about the part where he describes Applewolf concocting her plan to deceive Little Red Riding Bloom.
  • In "The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Rariwolf", in addition to continually yelling at the narrator to refer to her as "Oinkie Pie", she spreads lies about Rariwolf to Rainbow Pig, Sparkle Swine, and Applehog just because A. she wanted to make the story more "fun", which it wouldn't be if the trio knew Rariwolf was actually good and B. she wasn't in the story at all despite, in her own words, her name being a perfect pun for a pig and being pink like pigs are, all while admitting to it with a giant smile on her face. And after being sent to the "Bad Pinkie Corner" because of it she leaves just because the story was over while the Narrator chases after her.
  • In "Shaladdin", Pinkie gives the narrator grief for "assuming" she casted herself as the Genie because they both tell funny jokes and can break the fourth wall, only to reveal she was in fact playing the Genie after all. Later, she (as the Genie) yells at Shaladdin (Shining Armor's character) for transporting them outside of the Cave of Rarity with his magic (replacing the scene where Aladdin cons the Genie to do so in the original work), thus making her and the magic carpet useless (as well as skipping her song).
  • In the "Egghead and the Beast" episode, she is the one who leads the charge against the Beast because, after seeing him single-handedly defeat King Tirek, Lord Sombra, and Queen Chrysalis earlier in the episode and believing that he's attracting all the bad OC tropes like a giant cringe magnet, she plans to capture him and thus save Pinkie Tales from being doomed forever. She also lies to Dashton and Scootaroux about the Beast stealing Sparkelle from the former to convince the two to come along and capture him. Her plan doesn't work.
• April Fools' Day: "Discord Tales" was planned and written as an April Fools Day joke (as "Shaladdin" was actually the next episode scheduled to be released at the time), but its release date was delayed due to TheLostNarrator's cyst surgery.
• Art Shift: The series started out using show style vectors. "Discord Tales" switched to using the "pointy pony" style, originally thought to be because it was planned as an April Fools Day joke, but the style returned for "Shaladdin." Since "The Little Mermare," each episode uses artwork drawn by various artists.
• Author Powers:
  • Pinkie can, and does, change things on a whim, whenever she feels an idea will make for a better story. The narrator can also alter things, usually to keep Pinkie in line when she acts up. This changes in "Sky Blue and the Seven Colors", when the narrator, finally fed up with Pinkie's constant story changes and frequent interruptions, decides to take it away from her and give it to Applejack, who has been treated as the resident Butt-Monkey for the entire series up to this point, so the latter can have a hoof up and be able to control the stories.
  • Magpiepony herself wields a bit more power than the other narrators since she also writes the episodes, which comes in handy when she's forced into the position for the final story attempt in "Discord Tales 2."
• Big "NO!": Adagio does this, after her deal with Partiel, accidentally causes her to receive Pinkie's voice.
• Breaking the Fourth Wall: Pinkie, all the time. A Running Gag of the stories is her interrupting to talk to the narrator, conveniently pausing the whole story when she does. She also frequently inserts herself into the story despite ostensibly being the one who's reading it to begin with.
  • Discord is even worse since his magic lets him do whatever he wants, in and out of story.
• Butt-Monkey: Applejack. She has to suffer through Pinkie's version of the stories where she appears and is often subjected to all manner of slapstick humor if she's lucky. Making things worse is that she knows she's in a story but unlike Pinkie she can't change things to her preference. This changes in "Sky Blue and the Seven Colors" when the narrator gifts her Pinkie's story editing powers so she can be able to change the story to her liking.
• Call-Back: Aside from the Continuity Cavalcade mentioned below, Pinkie's past experiences with the narrators will often be mentioned ahead of time to the narrator of the current story so they know how to handle her and when to send her to the "Bad Pinkie Corner" first mentioned in "Little Red Riding Bloom."
  • The dress the "Cutie Mouse Crusaders" make in "Cindershy" shows up again in "Egghead and the Beast" as an option offered to Sparkelle (Twilight as Belle) by Tresser (Trixie as a dresser). Rariteapot (Rarity as... well, a teapot) even says it looks like three mice sewed it together.
  • Pinkie mentions in "Raripunzel" that she "had a bad experience with an OC not too long ago," referencing the ridiculous alicorn OC cast as the Beast in "Egghead and the Beast."
• Carnivore Confusion: Instead of trying to eat Little Red Riding Bloom (thank goodness) Applewolf simply tries to steal her basket of sweets.
• Character Exaggeration: Done to the point of parody in "Discord Tales" with the princesses. Celestia becomes Solestia, a sun-obsessed Large Ham, Luna becomes Glooma, a depressed English-accented Goth, and Cadence becomes Shippence, a Shipper on Deck for pretty much everything.
• Cats Are Mean: Fittingly, Opalescence plays Lucifer in Cindershy.
• Cerebus Syndrome: While not exactly Darker and Edgier, "The Little Mermare" and "Raripunzel" are noticeably more serious and story driven than their predecessor's. Not that this is saying much.
• Clark Kenting:
  • Lamp Shaded by Pieola, who points out to Lady Rarity that Cindershy isn't even wearing a mask, yet she can not decipher her identity.
  • Prince Dash not being able to tell his "true love" apart from literally any mare in the entire kingdom, despite just recently seeing her, and having to find entirely on what her hoof size was, despite hundreds of mares matching.
• Cloud Cuckoo Lander: Princesses Solestia, Glooma, and Shippence, Discord's versions of Celestia, Luna, and Cadence respectively, are all this to varying degrees. Especially Solestia. Also, Pinkie Pie could probably qualify at times.
• Continuity Cavalcade: Goldichaos and The Three Princesses has several references to past episodes.
• Contrived Coincidence: In Applejack and the Beanstalk Applejack lampshades that both The Beanstalk and later the giant table, both happen to have spiral ramp like designs that allow her to easily climb them. Later in the same story, their is a wagon conveniently placed ten feet away from "Flutter Tree" that she can use to take her home, which she can only use because of the afformentioned ramps.
• Creator Cameo: Magpiepony herself appears in (and narrates, against her will) "Discord Tales" due to it (in universe) originally being planned to be the "Shaladdin" episode before being hijacked by Discord.
  • Magpiepony and a lot of voice actor's OCs sometimes pop up in the background, such as being attendees at the fashion show in "Raripunzel."
  • Furthermore, if "Raripunzel" is any indication, the narrators of each story may actually be the OCs of the VAs narrating, as in the before mentioned episode, Pinkie Pie comments on the (unseen) narrator's odd appearance, and he replies that he's a hippogriff. The narrator of this particular story is Silver Quill, whose OC is, in fact, a hippogriff. "Discord Tales 2" pretty much confirms this, with all three of the narrators in the story being name dropped within the episode.
• Cross-Cast Role: Rainbow Dash plays the princes in "Cindershy," "The Little Mermare," and "Slumber Jack," as well as the Gaston role in "Egghead and the Beast." She also winds up playing the prince in "Sky Blue and the Seven Colors" as well after Applejack gets annoyed with who was initially cast in the role.
  • Also in "Egghead and the Beast," Scootaloo plays Lefou's role.
  • Applejack plays the prince role in "Raripunzel," which also has Big Mac playing "his" sister. Though "her" statement of "I'm a STALLION!" near the end of the video, along with the implication that it wasn't a lie suggests that the Big Mac example may actually be an aversion.
  • Spike plays one of the stepsisters in "Cindershy," which also has Twilight playing the Duke.
  • Discord plays "Goldichaos" in "Discord Tales." Magpiepony calls him out on it, and he tells her that if she can make Rainbow Dash a prince, then he can do what he wants. He continues this pattern by playing the queen in the first attempt at the story in "Discord Tales 2."
  • Twilight plays the sultan in "Shaladdin" and Sebastian's role in "The Little Mermare."
• The Dog Bites Back: The narrators will only take so many of Pinkie's shenanigans before they push back and send her to the "Bad Pinkie Corner".
  • Applejack does this to Pinkie (playing the Maleficent role) in "Slumber Jack" as payback for all the things she had to put up with throughout the entire series. Unfortunately, it doesn't stop Pinkie from putting Chrysalis back in the role just before she's about to get stabbed. However, in "Sky Blue and the Seven Colors", she does manage to get back at Pinkie with some help from the narrator.
  • In "Sky Blue and the Seven Colors", we get a truly epic one. In one scene, the narrator, who has finally had it with Pinkie's antics, decides to take away Pinkie's fourth-wall breaking powers and story editing privileges which she gives to Applejack in addition to sending her to the "Bad Pinkie Corner". Then, later in the story, Applejack and the narrator scare Pinkie straight by having the former pretend to go crazy as a result of Pinkie's constant sudden story changes, including her time skip from earlier in the episode.
• Dawson Casting: Taken to ridiculous levels in "Slumber Jack" in which the adult Applejack has to play her character when she's a baby as well.
• Deadpan Snarker:
  • Glooma to Solestia.
  Solestia: Until this pourage is worthy of the royal taste buds...
  Glooma: Do you even have taste-buds anymore? I figured you burned them all off.
  • Also Magpiepony to Discord in the same episode:
  Discord: I might catch a disease, like kindness, caring, or something..
  Magpie: No trust me, you won't catch caring.
• The Ditz: Pinkie Pie (even more so than in canon), and Rainbow Dash at times.
• Embarrassing Nickname: In both his/her appearances, Prince Dash calls The Grand Duke "Dukey."
• Flanderization: Like with Princess Trixie Sparkle, Pinkie's occasionally ditzy and hyperactive personality are tuned up a lot more than in canon (in addition to her usually loud voice being even louder and a lot more screechy than usual; especially in the earlier episodes) to the point that she has arguably Took a Level in Dumbass.
• Fantastic Racism: Rariwolf attributes Rainbow Pig's lack of architectural ability, to the fact that she is a dumb pig.
  • Rariwolf herself seems genuinely hurt, that the pigs think she is just a big, ugly, savage, and hungry beast trying to get an easy meal and not the very civilized wolf, trying to critique their architecture ability she actually is.
• Forgetful Jones:
  • In "Cindershy", Prince Dashie somehow forgets what his own true love looked like, literally minutes after she had left.
  • In "Little Red Riding Bloom", Pinkie interrupts the Narrator three times, the third time has her forgetting her question literally seconds after interrupting him. Later in the story, when she kidnaps Big Mac/Lumbermac so she could play the lumberjack who saves the day because she hadn't had part in the story yet, she tries covering her tracks by claiming Big Mac's muffled speech is Gummy, her toothless pet alligator, at the dentist and that he doesn't like it. The Narrator doesn't buy it.
• Foreshadowing: Applehog questions where Sparkle Swine could have heard of a nearby wolf, when they lived on a farm their whole lives and just got to the woods that day. It is later revealed that Pinkie... Oinkie Pie has been telling her made up stories about Rariwolf being a big bad wolf and getting them scared, because the story wouldn't work if they knew Rariwolf was actually nice.
• Fourth-Wall Observer: Pinkie Pie of course. A status that leads to her constantly bickering with the various narrators.
  • More surprisingly, Applejack of all ponies is also this, as she often breaks character to point out various oddities in the story, like why she of all ponies was cast as the fairy godmother and often tries to address her friends as she would in the show.
• Frying Pan of Doom: Little Red Riding Bloom has Granny Smith stop the wolf by using a multitude of frying pans.
• Heel–Face Turn: Unlike in the original version, the epilogue for Cindershy reveals that Cindershy's step family eventually made amends with her.
• Hostile Show Takeover: Discord does this in "Discord Tales".
• Idiot Ball: Lamp Shaded by Pinkie, after Applejack escapes through a door she left open.
• Interactive Narrator: Pinkie frequently talks to the narrator, often to discuss what's happening in story. Or they will talk to her, often out of frustration with what she's set up.
• It Amused Me: Whatever changes Pinkie makes to a story are because she thinks they're more entertaining.
• Karma Houdini: Lady Rarity and her daughters, not only do not see any real punishment for their treatment of Cindershy, but they are also eventually forgiven and allowed to live with her in the castle. Though this is mitigated somewhat, as their misdeeds are significantly toned down from the source material.
• Karma Houdini Warranty: Pinkie suffers little consequences for her antics and decisions made throughout the series. This changes in 'Sky Blue and the Seven Colors', when Applejack and the Narrator trick Pinkie with them fooling her into thinking her time skip from earlier in the episode has driven Applejack crazy. Pinkie is unable to deal with it with her fourth wall abilities taken away and has to deal with the insane acting Applejack near the end. Now that Applejack knows there is a narrator and has Pinkie's story-editing/fourth wall breaking powers; she will now have a say in the decisions in the story.
• Kick the Dog: Lady Rarity trying to take Prince Dash away from her own daughter, after Piella gets a chance at marrying him.
• Lampshade Hanging:
  • In Cindershy, Pinkie responds to Rataloo's suggestion that if she knows so much about baking, why doesn't she do it herself by reminding her that since she's an antagonist in this story, it's her job to be rude and impossible towards Cindershy.
• Large Ham: Solestia, Discord's version of Celestia, embodies this trope, complete with a voice that'll make William Shatner, Billy Mays, and BRIAN BLESSED cower in shame.
• The Last Straw: Applejack isn't that big of a fan of being part of the stories to begin with but will usually go along once it's clear she has no choice. "Slumber Jack" however has her reach her breaking point when her dead parents are cast in the role of the queen and king. That has her directly calling out Pinkie Pie.
  • In "Sky Blue and the Seven Colors", Pinkie's time skip is this to the narrator, who takes away her meta-awareness and story-editing powers.
• Love at First Sight: Prince Dash is determined to marry the mare he met at the Gala, despite the fact she/he only danced with her for ten minutes, knows absolutely nothing about her, doesn't know how to find her, and somehow does not even remember what color she was.
• Lighter and Softer: This series is this to even the Disney versions of the fairytales.
• Medium Awareness: A key part of humor in these videos is some characters knowing that they're in a fairy tale.
  • Pinkie is the biggest offender because not only is she aware that she's in a story when it's being told but also that she's in a video about said story being told.
  • Applejack is always aware that she's in a story being told by Pinkie, which is explained as her being a possible relative of Pinkie's in "Egghead and the Beast".
  • Braeburn and Cheese Sandwich also have this when they appear. For Cheese, it's explained as him being a "male ripoff of Pinkie Pie." Braeburn's reason for it isn't confirmed, though it could be the same reason as Applejack's.
• Meta Girl: Applejack often breaks character to point out various oddities, like how her "mother" Mrs. Sparkle doesn't just use her Alicorn Magic to help out in the story, despite clearly being an alicorn or that part of the Beanstalk conveniently spirals around it like a ramp, or how Pinkie pretends like they are complete strangers, despite the fact that she obviously knows who Applejack is.
• Morality Pet: For all of Pinkie's antics when it comes to the stories she is doing it for the sake of Pound and Pumpkin. The narrator in "The Little Mermare" gets her to behave by presenting the possibility of disappointing them with the lack of a bedtime story.
  • Fluttershy in "Discord Tales 2" is the one who manages to convince Discord to make his story less scary to make the twins stop crying- even though that wasn't really the reason the twins were crying in the first place, not that either Discord or Fluttershy could've known at the time.
• Mythology Gag: After Partiel (Pinkie) is turned from a mermare to a pegasus, her coat and mane inexplicably change from pink to white and yellow, the same colors as Surprise, the generation one pony Pinkie Pie was based on. But, she turns back to pink by the end.
• No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Pinkie does this to Discord, after he performs a show takeover and leaves her tied up for the whole episode. Arguably doubles as Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?.
• Nonindicative Name: Instead of giving himself a golden mane as "Goldychaos", Discord steals Twilight's pink and purple mane.
  Discord: I doubt she'll even miss it.
  Twilight: AHHHHHHHH!!!
• Not So Above It All: Despite being the Only Sane Man in the stories Applejack will usually play along if not take advantage of it for her own amusement.
• Only Sane Man: The narrator will usually try in vain to keep the story on track, even against Pinkie's spur of the moment changes. Surprisingly they usually succeed.
  • Applejack is this in-story, often pointing out the gaps in logic that govern every other characters behavior. Unlike the narrator this doesn't do her much good because she can't affect the narrative like Pinkie. Until "Sky Blue and the Seven Colors," when the narrator gives Applejack the ability to do so after taking it away from Pinkie.
  • In "Cindershy", Twilight as the Grand Duke plays this role somewhat, calling out the Prince (played by Rainbow Dash) on his stupidity.
    • Also in "Cindershy," Scootaloo as "Rataloo" is this to an extent; she is smart enough to be the only one of the "Cutie Mouse Crusaders" to realize that Pinkie (as one of the stepsisters) can understand them, but not smart enough to realize that she's a rat, not a mouse.
  • Glooma is this to the other princesses. Not that she accomplishes much.
  • Due to Applejack's absence in "The Little Mermare," Twilight (in the role of Sebastian) plays the role more in this story.
  • Sunset Shimmer and Starlight Glimmer share this role in the first story in "Discord Tales 2."
• The Other Marty: In universe, Pinkie originally intended to play the candle in "Egghead and the Beast," but wound up giving her role to Cheese Sandwich because she was too scared of the terrible and overpowered alicorn OC cast as the Beast, which she insists she had no hand in coming up with it because in her own words: "I thought he was gonna be a Manticore or something!".
• Out-of-Character Moment: Subverted. Regardless of whatever role a character plays in the story they always maintain their normal personality from canon, if directed towards specific roles.
  • In "Applejack and The Beanstalk", Pinkie points out that it is not like Applejack to steal, even from a giant.
  • Played straight in "Discord Tales" with the princesses who don't act anything like their canon selves. This is deliberate since Discord is the one telling the story this time.
• Pandering to the Base: In universe, the reason Rainbow Dash was cast as a fashion model in "Raripunzel" is because Pinkie received a lot of comments complaining about casting her in male roles in previous Pinkie Tales episodes.
• Playing Against Type: The reason Pinkie Pie swapped roles with Chrysalis in "Slumber Jack" is because she realized that she was playing the same type of character in every story and wanted to be evil for once.
  • Though, as DisneyFanatic2364 pointed out in her reaction, she had actually played a villain before- the giant in "Applejack and the Beanstalk." This may be nullified somewhat by the fact that the giant was still bumbling and comedic, while the villain in "Slumber Jack" is more of a serious threat.
• Plot Hole: Just like the original story, the magic used for Cindershy's big day at The Gala, wore off on literally everything, but the glass shoe for some reason.
• Punch-Clock Villain: Pinkie is this in Cindershy, where she plays one of the wicked sisters and has to be nasty to Cindershy, while being fully aware that she is only doing this because it is her role in the story and later goes through the fourth wall to help Apple Godmother make Cindershy a dress, when she was failing miserably.
• Punny Names: Pretty much everypony.
  • When TheLostNarrator is brought in to narrate Discord's second attempt at the story in "Discord Tales 2," she asks why as the previous narrator seemed perfectly fine to her. Discord replies by saying that there WAS no first narrator and that the narrator was him all along, but he apparently wanted to follow Pinkie's rules and bring in a different narrator. Lost wonders what he's talking about, as the credits don't say that the first narrator was him, they say that the first narrator was Chaotic... then realizes the pun.
• Rule of Three: In "Little Red Riding Bloom", we get this priceless exchange.
  Narrator: Applewolf paused and contemplated her situation before she concocted the perfect plan-
  Pinkie: QUESTION!
  Narrator: Yes, Pinkie?
  Pinkie: What's "contemplated" mean?
  Narrator: It means "to think".
  Pinkie: Oh, okay!
  Narrator: Applewolf paused and contemplated her situation before she concocted the perfect-
  Pinkie: QUESTION!
  Narrator: (more annoyed) Yes, Pinkie?
  Pinkie: What's "concocted" mean?
  Narrator: It means "thought up".
  Pinkie: Ohhhhhhhhhhh!
  Narrator: Can I get back to the story now?
  Pinkie: Uh-huh!
  Narrator: (now agiated) Applewolf paused and contemplated her situation before she concocted the perfect plan to distract Little Red Riding Blo-
  Pinkie: QUESTION!
  Narrator: (enraged) WHAT, PINKIE! (stammers) DO YOU NEED TO KNOW WHAT THE WORD DISTRACT MEANS???!!!!
  Pinkie: Oh, I don't need to know what that means. I already know. It's when you can't say focused, like you're...interrupted or something.
  Narrator: (through clenched teeth) You don't say... DIDN'T YOU HAVE A QUESTION?!
  Pinkie: (looking sheepish) I did. Oh, I guess I forget.
  Narrator: (sighs and then clears this throat) Applewolf paused and contemplated her situation before she concocted the perfect plan to distract Little Red Riding Bloom from Granny's house. Applewolf intended to get to Granny's before Little Red so she could eat the apples in her yard before finishing off Little Red Riding Bloom 's basket for desert. After all, wolves have a rather large appetite, and Applewolf was no exception.
• Running Gag: Rarity being put in roles that do not at all reflect her personality or desire for social standing: a magic tuba, a wolf, and a bird.
• Rhymes on a Dime: How Rainbow Pig. Applehog, and Sparkle Swine talk to each other in "The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Rariwolf". In the same episode, Applehog and Rariwolf (and to an extent Pinkie...Oinkie Pie) don't speak in rhyme but the former has too in order to get her sisters to understand her.
• Shipper on Deck: Parodied and exaggerated with "Princess Shippence" Discord's version of Princess Cadence, who reasons that her duties to spread love and compassion, involve randomly "shipping" everyone regardless of their personal input and compatibility. Including, but not limited to, making a random guard and maid fall in love, because the maid sneezed and the guard said "bless you".
• Shout-Out:
  • After seeing Spike's playing a girl, Pinkie Pie jokingly says it's Princess Trixie Sparkle all over again, which is the creator's other major series, where all the characters all got their bodies swapped for most of the story and Spike had to be stuck in a girl's body.
  • Flowey appears as one of the many things, Discord turns a poor guard into, before said guard leaves.
  • Cassandra appears as a pony in "Raripunzel", fittingly enough.
• The Silent Bob: Spike in his appearance in "The Three Little Pigs and Big Bad Rariwolf" is interupted by Rarity every time he tries to talk.
• Straight Man: Whoever the narrator for the episode is, usually ends (begrudgingly) acting as this to Pinkie.
  • Also, Magpiepony herself unfortunately had to be this, during Discord's Hostile Show Take Over. She was missing Pinkie by the seven minute mark. By the time of "Discord Tales 2" however, she seems to have learned from this, and uses her power as the writer of the episode to speed through the story as quickly as possible and stop Discord from bothering her.
• Straw Nihilist: "Glooma", Discord's version of Princess Luna is a parody of goth girls, which includes her having this view on life.
• Take That!:
  • The ridiculously overpowered Alicorn OC from the "Egghead and the Beast" episode. That is all.
  • The reason Pinkie could not listen to the song she wanted to during Applejack and the Beanstalk was apparently because Disney claimed it.
  • Discord takes several jabs at Hasbro during his episode.
• Took a Level in Dumbass: Let's just say Pinkie is a lot more stupid, ditzy, and absent-minded than she is in canon and without any of her usual boundaries. For example, in the "Shaladdin" episode, she confuses "dessert" (the region where Saddle Arabia is) for "desert" (as in pies, cakes, and ice cream) several times in one scene and mistakes twilight (the time of day) for Twilight Sparkle (who's playing the Sultan in the story).
• Throw the Dog a Bone: In "Sky Blue and the Seven Colors," the narrator takes away Pinkie's fourth wall abilities and story editing privileges after Pinkie goes too far and gives them to Applejack to give her the upper hand for once.
• Time Skip: Played for Laughs in The Little Mermare, where the narrator decides to skip a good chunk of the romance, to the last minute before Partiel has to get Prince Dashie to kiss her, due to the story already running fairly long, while taking advantage of the fact that Pinkie can't tell him to stop at the moment.
• Too Dumb to Live: Solestia needs the other princesses to drag her away from looking at the sun or she'll burn her eyes out.
• Troll: Discord takes this to new heights, during his episode.
  • The narrator of The Little Mermare does this, by deciding to skip Pinkie's second song and asking if there're are any objections, knowing full well that they are at the point where Pinkie loses her voice and can't object.
  • Magpiepony herself eventually becomes this in "Discord Tales 2" when she narrates Discord's final attempt at the story, as unlike the other narrators, she has a bit more control over what goes on since she is the writer of the episode, and uses that privilege to speed through the story as soon as possible and get Discord to silence himself before either of them says something they'll regret.
  • Also in "Discord Tales 2," Pinkie Pie turns out to be one toward Discord. She told Fluttershy that she was sick and couldn't tell the twins their story because she knew that Discord would use it as an opportunity to try to impress Fluttershy by telling the twins one of his stories. What she didn't mention was that the twins caught the same cold she did, and as a result, were a lot moodier and harder to put to sleep. This was so she could get revenge on Discord for what he did to her in the first "Discord Tales".
  • Both the narrator and Applejack in "Sky Blue and the Seven Colors." The narrator takes away Pinkie's ability to change the story, and unbeknownst to her until near the end, gives it to Applejack to give her the upper hand for once.
• Verbal Tic: "Apples" for Applejack as the Evil Queen in "Sky Blue and the Seven Colors" after she goes crazy. Later, we find out she was faking it the entire time.
• Villainous Breakdown: In "Slumber Jack" Pinkie undergoes a massive one as Prince Dash talks about why he left Partiel following the events of "The Little Mermare", before she turns into a giant fire-breathing dragon in complete rage.
  Malefichrysalis: My curse has been fulfilled. You'll never get to Applerora or her friends! (chuckle) It's so much fun to play the bad guy.
  Prince Dash: (obvious to the final part) Wanna bet? I live for a challenge! Your vines and spells can't keep me from my truest love!
  Malefichrysalis: Truest love? You mean, even more than that mermare you meet back when your name was "Dashie"? Didn't she turn into a pegasus in the end and so you two could be together?
  Prince Dash: Oh, her? You try spending five minutes in the same room with that mare. She's way too, ugh, energetic. Sometimes just downright crazy. She has this really nasally annoying voice too. I liked her better when she couldn't talk. You know, now that I think about it, you kinda sound like her. Are you two related or something?
  Malefichrysalis: (amid mad chuckling) Energetic? Annoying? Crazy?! You're gonna regret those words, because they will BE YOUR LAST!!!!!!
• Vocal Dissonance: The Princesses are all given male voices in Discord's tale. Specifically, Celstia (Solestia) gets one that would make William Shatner proud to match her Large Ham personality, Luna (Glooma) gets a Cockney accent, and Cadence (Shippence), a more downplayed example, just gets a more effeminate male voice.
• Vocal Evolution: In the earlier episodes and much like with Princess Trixie Sparkle, Pinkie's voice is a lot more loud and screechy than usual, while in the later episodes, her voice, while still loud, is a bit more quiet and a lot less screechy, thus making it much closer to Andrea Libman's voice from Friendship is Magic.
• Worthy Opponent: The narrator in "The Little Mermare" is able to get Pinkie to behave by pointing out that if she continues to act up, she'll be sent to the "Bad Pinkie Corner" and the Cake Twins won't get their bedtime story. She complains that he doesn't play fair before saying she likes them for pulling that off.
• Yank the Dog's Chain: After finally getting her show back, after Discord's Hostile Show Take Over Pinkie is "informed" that their is no time left to tell the story she was actually going to tell and the episode just ends.
  Pinkie: Oh heck no! It can't be over? Nooo!
