- Breaking the Fellowship: As Momo noticed, Ochako and Tenya's friendship fell apart due to the stress caused by Izuku's dissapearance and Tenya's self-isolation to deal with Stain.
- Catch-22 Dilemma: Izuku is transferred out of the hero course until he gains control of his Quirk. He notes internally that he cannot hope to learn without help from the hero course. It is revealed Aizawa planned for him to receive extra-curricular training after his transfer. Though he didn't originally plan to, instead just dropping him into General Education and being done with him.
- Despair Event Horizon: Izuku views his expulsion as the end of his life and chances, to the point of returning One for All back to All Might.
- Did Not Think This Through: Shinso gets his wish to replace someone in 1-A. He realizes after the fact in he is now in a class full of people who actively dislike him.
- To make matters worse, Shinso's declaration only further alienated him from the rest of the class.
- Dreaming of Things to Come: Implied to be due to their shared quirk, All Might has dreams of Midoriya trying to rescue Eri.
- Heroic Self-Deprecation: Izuku loses all hope and self-confidence after his transfer. It reaches the point where he gives back One for All to All Might, honestly believing All Might would eventually ask for it back.
- Irony: Izuku is transferred out of 1-A because his lack of control over his Quirk and lack of self-preservation causes him to permanently damage his own hand. He has his damaged hand completely fixed after being transferred out of heroics and giving One For All back, having given up on being a hero completely. Furthermore, it is Overhaul, a villain who has malicious intent towards Izuku that fixes him where the heroic Recovery Girl failed.
- One Dialogue, Two Conversations: Ochako and Iida briefly went through this when Ochako asked him if he knew the news and Iida said he knew and he didn't thought that concerned her; Iida thought Ochako was talking about Ingenium's loss against Stain, since he avoided the news after learning of his brother's injuries.
- Rape Is a Special Kind of Evil: Invoked and Discussed by the author. Sexual assault is one of the most uncomfortable topics possible. You can hurt a character in so many ways, but the worst is when they have been violated.
- The Resenter: Ochako resents Shinsou for taking Izuku's place in Class 1-A.
- Took a Level in Jerkass: Downplayed. Ochako isn't a jerk per say, but Izuku's expulsion filled Ochako with plenty of anger that she almost released on Iida, Kaminari, and now is throwing glares at Aizawa after learning of Izuku's dissapearance.
