Fanfic / Monsters Versus Aliens

Go To

Lilo Pelekai is off to college, with Stitch tagging along. Initially, she worries about her roommate's reaction to her best friend in the galaxy...but Mary "Boo" Gibbs is no normal girl. The two girls get along amazingly, with Lilo happy that she and Stitch can be themselves with Boo while Boo is happy to meet someone who doesn't think she's weird (or that Mike Wazowski is a strange name for a goldfish). It seems like the two will have a perfect first semester...until something strange happens. One night, the girls wake up because something's in the closet. Stitch jumps on whatever it is, and they both fall back into the closet, the door slamming behind them. Lilo runs and whips the door open...only to find an empty closet. While Lilo panics about losing her best friend, Boo calms her and tells her about a strange place called the Monster World...With the clock ticking, Lilo and Boo need to find a way to bust into the Monster World, both to save Stitch and so Boo can prove to herself that what she saw as a toddler was real.

This is a Crossover between Lilo & Stitch and Monsters, Inc.. It's based on a Tumblr post and written by acoolusername. It's available on Archive of Our Own right here. Not to be confused with the 2009 Dreamworks film of the same name.

Tropes found in this fic include:

  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Subverted. When Lilo and Boo tell Russell what they need his room for, he believes them...to the girls' shock.
    Boo: You...believe us?
    Lilo: Just like that?
Russell: Sure, why not? Everyone's got something weird about them. One time, when I was a kid, I floated all the way to South America in a floating house that was lifted up by millions of balloons. And I had a dog who talked. And there was this thing with an old explorer guy, and a giant bird, and...well, you get the point.
  • Alien Arts Are Appreciated: Stitch, being an alien from a technologically-advanced alien government, finds himself engrossed in the science classes taught at Lilo and Boo's university (to the point that he copies a few of their homework assignments to get a better idea of how Earth science works). Also, he's still fond of Elvis songs.
  • Anger Born of Worry: Lilo knows that most of Nani's Angrish vents are this, and that sometimes she does things to deserve them. But that doesn't mean she or Stitch like them.
  • Ascended Meme: The entire plot of the story came from a Tumblr post about how awesome it would be if Lilo and Boo became college roommates.
  • Beach Episode: Seeing as how Boo had never seen the ocean before coming to college in Hawaii, a part of the fic is dedicated to Lilo teaching her how to surf.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Simply because Stitch looks cute and knows how to behave (most of the time) doesn't mean he can't be dangerous...especially if you go after his best friend. Monsters Inc learns this the hard way.
  • Big Damn Reunion: After almost two decades, Boo finally gets to see Mike and Sulley again.
  • Canon Foreigner: Russell from Up makes an appearance as a fellow student at Boo and Lilo's school. He helps them out once or twice and even recounts the events of the aforementioned film. Lilo considers him her friend.
  • Commonality Connection: Lilo and Boo bond because they were both considered "weird girls" when they were little.
  • Cordon Bleugh Chef: The Monsters Inc cafeteria does not have a human-friendly menu...but Stitch loves it.
  • Crazy-Prepared: When he learned about how some boys at colleges target girls, Jumba made Lilo a stun bomb in case she was attacked. She'd argued that pepper spray would work just as well, but he insisted she keep it anyway. It ends up becoming very useful.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Lilo has learned that when Stitch is left alone with someone who finds him adorable (like Boo), he can get away with pretty much anything.
  • Defiant Captive: Stitch. He was held prisoner in the Monster World for four days and never stopped trying to escape (draining a lot of power and causing a lot of damage in the process).
  • The Guards Must Be Crazy: The guards left in charge of Boo and Lilo don't think anything's wrong when they hear Lilo grunting, and oblige when Boo claims to have carpal tunnel syndrome so they'll loosen the cuffs. This leaves them at the mercy of the stun-bomb that Jumba had made for Lilo in case of an emergency.
  • Monster Roommate: Stitch to Lilo and Boo. Boo is actually disappointed when she learns that Stitch is actually an alien rather than a monster.
  • My Beloved Smother: Boo ended up with these for parents, as they apparently sent her to multiple "psychologists" as a child (who Boo says were mostly phonies) after her disappearance to the Monster World. Nani has shades of this, but her concern for Lilo is understandable given her little sister's...less than normal upbringing (and the fact that she's keeping Stitch with her at campus).
  • No-Sell: When Stitch was pulled into the Monster World, it took practically every available person the company had to arrest him, and they had to divert an immense amount of power to simply keep him contained.
  • Oh, No... Not Again!: The monster who Stitch attacked was evidently very scared when he saw him again.
  • Ship Tease: A few characters imply that Lilo and Boo are more than friends...
  • The Smart Guy: Stitch spends his free time listening in on classes in the science building, making his own gadgets, and taking things apart (much to Lilo's horror, as not all of those things belong to him or her). He also admits that he read all of Lilo's and Boo's school textbooks in one afternoon.
  • Relationship Upgrade: In the time between the first Lilo and Stitch film and the fic, Nani and David got married. Mike and Celia also got married at some point between Boo's visits to the Monster World.
  • The Unseen: Despite being mentioned, Jumba, Pleakley, Randall and Waternoose never make an appearance.
