Fanfic / Mission To Silas

Go To

Mission to Silas is a crossover fanfiction on AO3 by GOTFa2.

Being a prequel and spinoff to Love's Sacrifices, this story serves as between Ginger Snaps, The Craft, Carmilla the Series, and D.E.B.S..

Set in the Turn of the Millennium, the story opens shortly after the events of Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed; following Brigitte's imprisonment in Amanda "Ghost" Harington's basement, the latter's online activity draws the attention of the clandestine, D.E.B.S spy agency and academy. When they investigate Ghost's house, they uncover Brigitte, having regained her human form, but still revealing her lycanthropy. Considering Brigitte a "flight risk", the agency keeps Brigitte on their academy grounds as a "safety precaution".

A few years into Brigitte's captivity, the Academy's star student and agent, Amy Bradshaw has become a fugitive after fleeing the D.E.B.S with criminal mastermind, Lucy Diamond — whom Amy was exposed as having an affair with. Shortly after Amy's escape, they are tracked down to Silas County Styria, noted as being a haven for supernatural occurrences — as well as hosting a D.E.B.S campus years before, which has fallen into obscurity when their students have all disappeared. Brigitte is shanghaied by the higher ups into joining a "rescue" mission with Amy's friends, in exchange for her freedom.

At Silas County itself, Lucy and Amy are reached out too by Silas University students, Sarah Bailey, Nancy Downs, Rochelle Zimmerman and Bonnie Harper — a coven of witches who are being monitored by Silas' mysterious Dean Lilita Morgan, who catches on to the D.E.B.S mission. When the Dean catches on to Brigitte's presence, she intends to have her roped into her fold, sending the Coven girls to reach out to her; in turn Brigitte finds herself becoming unexpectedly closer with the girls, especially Sarah and Nancy. As these parties converge, so does a conspiracy that only threatens them, but possibly the world at large.

Being a Demographic-Dissonant Crossover, this story also provides a mix of tones. From the considerably darker and grounded Urban Fantasy tones of Ginger Snaps and The Craft — to the affectionate spy parody and romantic comedy of D.E.B.S.. While the darker and dramatic elements gradually win out, this story isn't shy of the zanier qualities of the latter, or the more fantastical stuff within Carmilla the Series; from cult conspiracies, monsters, gods, and in this case the looming presence and threat of an ancient dragon.

     A - B

  • Adaptation Expansion:
    • This fic goes into greater details of the characters D.E.B.S., their backstories and the history of the titular academy; as well as exploring Lucy's backstory, from her Mob War against the Schaeffer family, who wiped out her whole family  — something that was mentioned in passing in the movie proper — as well as a toxic relationship that was alluded to in the script. Amy also has an extensive backstory regarding the death of her father, and a troubled life in high school. Even Bobby is given a backstory about his family's ties and history with the Academy, despite Bobby himself not being a student.
    • In D.E.B.S., Lucy's alleged plot to destroy Australia is brought up as a Brick Joke and a Noodle Incident that isn't really elaborated on further. Here, it becomes a plot point. It turns out rather than a Kill Sat like it was commonly believed, Lucy was attempting to weaponize Yobidashi-gawa, an allegedly mystical device that could be used to communicate with the "Odo Island Sea Dragon"; which she previously used to wipe the last of the Schaffer's. The D.E.B.S director and Headmistress, Miss Petrie intends to get her hands on it, and use it to set off a series of attacks, framing Lucy as a threat and making her agency look like heroes for stopping her.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: In The Craft, Sarah and Nancy go no further than friends, before becoming enemies over the latter half of the movie. Because this falling out doesn't occur in this timeline, Sarah and Nancy ultimately hook up, and become steady girlfriends for at least eight years. They are also a swinging couple, sometimes hooking up with a third partner; Bonnie and Rochelle are stated to have a "benefits" thing with them, which they also extend to Carmilla during their stay in Silas. Over the course of this story, Sarah and Nancy become romantically involved with Brigitte Fitzgerald.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Almost each protagonist gets a small dose of this. However, Lucy and Amy especially are given this as part of their expanded backstories.
    • In D.E.B.S., it is mentioned in passing that Lucy lost her family to a Mob War, of which she came out on top. This Mob War is explored in a few flashbacks, and it is shown how the loss of Lucy's family did a number on her, with her revenge quest leaving her feeling empty. Not helping that Lucy was in a toxic relationship at the time, and a yet to be revealed betrayal nearly drove Lucy to destroy Australia; something Lucy couldn't go through with. Furthermore, it's revealed that much of Lucy's reputation as a mass murderer was largely brought about by fabrications and even False Flag engineered by the D.E.B.S Academy themselves, which further portrays Lucy as a Misunderstood Loner with a Heart of Gold.
    • In Amy's given backstory, it's revealed she had a pretty conservative upbringing, and was the daughter of a cop in Texas; it's implied that her father had homophobic beliefs, and Amy wouldn't get any closure for it, because her father was murdered on the job. This was the cause of her Gaygnst, and why she hasn't come out to her mother, who she hasn't spoken to in a while. Her toxic relationship with Bobby is portrayed in a much darker light in the film; while Canon!Bobby was a pushy and controlling boyfriend, in this fic, he becomes more unstable after her continued rejections, lashing out as an abuser would. Things get worse when Bobby assaults and hospitalized her mother, pushing Amy into a Heroic BSoD.
    • The Coven Girls are downplayed examples. The details of Sarah's Dark and Troubled Past are talked about, as is Bonnie's childhood injury that burned her. It is also mentioned that Sarah's father and stepmother had since passed away over the years, as had Nancy's mother two years prior to the story — however Sarah and Nancy seemed to have accepted these losses, and have a healthy support network with their friends, helping each other heal from past traumas.
  • Adaptational Backstory Change:
    • In The Craft: Legacy, Nancy's daughter Lily, was put up for adoption and never met Nancy until she was a teenager. According to Word of God, Lily is also a Child by Rape. In this fic, Lily's backstory is radically changed with her being conceived through mystical means by Sarah and Nancy, and is set to be raised by both of them in the fic's sequel.
    • In Freddy vs. Jason, Gibb Smith is seemingly a mundane teenager and resident of Springwood, and presumably had no knowledge of the supernatural before her encounter with Freddy. In this fic's universe, "Gibb" is revealed as an alias Ginger Fitzgerald lived under after first faking her death, in an implied Witness Protection deal. The exact details aren't elaborated here, but are set to be explored in this fic's sequel.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy:
    • In The Craft, Nancy Downs was aloof, snarky and vicious well before she went off the deep end. In this fic, Nancy is portrayed as more of a Jerk with a Heart of Gold. Due to the last third of the movie not happening in this timeline, Nancy becomes a little more friendly and empathetic towards those she's close to. While she seemingly still outwardly aloof and snarky to others, it's implied that dating Sarah made Nancy softer over the years. Nancy is also portrayed as a Friend to All Children, becoming a teacher at a pre-school and absolutely adores her "Ducklings". Over the story, Nancy shows her Hidden Heart of Gold to the other protagonists, especially Brigitte, who becomes romantically involved with Sarah and Nancy.
    • In D.E.B.S. Max and Dominique have a bit of a mean streak towards Amy and Janet, bordering on With Friends Like These... and Toxic Friend Influence, with a Hidden Heart of Gold at the end of the film. Here, following their Heel Realization in the movie, it is made clear they both care about Amy and don't want her being hurt; unfortunately they are Forced into Evil when the Academy places bugs in them to constantly monitor them. They also become disillusioned by the D.E.B.S Academy for going increasingly off the deep end, and repeatedly make it clear they want to protect people in spite of their ego, unlike their more glory seeking Director.
  • Adaptational Sexuality:
    • In The Craft, Nancy is Ambiguously Bi, and Sarah only ever shows any interest in a boy named Chris Hooker. In this story, not only are Sarah and Nancy in a long term relationship, but Sarah is portrayed as having been closeted lesbian, whose seeming attraction to Chris was out of comphet.
    • In Ginger Snaps, Brigitte doesn't display any real romantic interest in others, despite the Ship Tease she had with Sam. In the second movie, she only shows sexual interest in boys, and even that is implied to be born from her  transformation and sexual instincts getting the better of her. Her actress, Emily Perkins even suggests that Brigitte is ace. This fic firmly portrays Brigitte as bisexual, getting romantically involved with Sarah and Nancy, eventually sleeping with them; she was also revealed to have been secretly attracted both Sam and (of all people) Trina from the original film.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Played With. While in D.E.B.S., the titular Academy do become the antagonists in the second half — trying push Amy away from Lucy with an unsubtle Cure Your Gays analogy — that's a long way from the Sinister Spy Agency and Armies Are Evil portrayal here.
    • Miss Petrie, the D.E.B.S Director and Headmistress was a snide glory seeker and an implied homophobe in the film proper. While she was okay with pushing a false narrative to make her agency look good, it's never indicated that she would have her own students and agents killed or left to die to fabricate a narrative. Over the story, she does shadier things from setting a transformed Brigitte loose on her students as a training exercise; to placing bugs inside Max and Dominique to control and monitor them against their will; and finally plotting to set a monster loose to frame Lucy as a threat, and make a name for her Agency through Engineered Heroics.
    • In the film proper, Bobby is a skeevy Dogged Nice Guy; and a pushy, controlling ex-boyfriend to Amy, who attempts to kill Lucy out of jealousy. Bobby's immaturity was played in a somewhat comedic light, acting like a Jerk Jock who happens to be a government agent. This fic takes these traits to a much darker and serious extreme. Here, Bobby was a toxic boyfriend, who lashes out in the same way an abuser would if things don't go their way. As the story goes on, Bobby goes off the deep end; assaulting and hospitalizing Amy's mother in her home to "punish" Amy; and having a police precinct blown up, killing several officers and bystanders in his escape. It's also revealed that Bobby has a history of instability and violence throughout his career as an agent, that was covered up by the Academy.
  • Age-Gap Romance: Both Brigitte and Amy are stated as being 19 at the time of the story. Amy is romantically involved with Lucy, who is stated to be 26, and previously dated Bobby (27). Meanwhile Brigitte gets romantically involved with Sarah and Nancy, who are around 25 at the time of the story. note
  • Animalistic Abomination: Odo Island's "sea dragon" is described as a towering dinosaur-like creature; it can breathe white hot flames — powerful enough to penetrate the sea floor and cause a dormant volcano to erupt —  and shrugs off even nuclear weapons. Despite ostensibly being just an animal, it is implied to be intelligent, observing people with human-like curiosity, and could be communicated with using mystical devices. Inanna implies this creature was responsible for wiping out the Deep Ones.
  • Anti-Hero: As a retired supervillain and criminal mastermind, Lucy actually started out as this; with her only real killings being directed at a murderous crime family that wiped out her own. In the present day, she falls back into this, especially when she learns of a False Flag Operation against her by the D.E.B.S Academy. Even when she's put firmly on the heroes side, she still gets her hands dirty through her "deal" Mattie, showing she's still has an unscrupulous side.
  • Ax-Crazy: Bobby gradually becomes this; starting out wanting to just kill Lucy, but soons lashing out when things don't go his way (read: all the time). Eventually, he "reaches out" to Amy's mother out of "concern"...only to batter her with a hammer when she wouldn't hear him out. After his arrest, he engineers an escape plan that kills several officers and bystanders — having explosives placed in a precinct — personally murdering one witness with his bare hands. It's also revealed that Bobby has a history of violence, with at least two cases of battery, one of which includes a former girlfriend.
  • Bad Boss:
    • Miss Petrie, as both the director of the D.E.B.S agency and Headmistress of their academies, has little to no issue of exploiting or harming her students and agents if it gets results. For one thing, she exploits Brigitte's transformations by using them as a training exercise; setting the transformed Brigitte loose on students to see if they can survive and hold her off. She keeps an eye on Max and Dominique by putting bugs in them, all but robbing them of their autonomy. And to push the narrative that Lucy killed her students and agents, Petrie has no qualms of leaving them to die, if not outright ordering their deaths.
    • Vordenberg takes it to another level. As headmaster of the Silas Campus, Vordenberg pretty much saw his students and agents as foot soldiers for his agenda. As part of his dealings with Count Karnstein, Vordenberg let the Count slaughter his student body as an mass human sacrifice for Hatur and Ithaqua.
  • Bait the Dog: Vordenberg, keeping with his Wise Old Folk Façade from Carmilla the Series, makes an attempt to seem like a caring, compassionate grandfatherly figure when he's introduced to Brigitte, even offering her the false promise of freedom. During this time, he tries to get her sympathy by recounting an encounter with the Odo Island sea dragon; describing himself as a poor witness to it's rampage, and claiming to have lost a friend to a Heroic Sacrifice — his story is juxtaposed with flashbacks revealing he inadvertently provoked the dragons rampage, and left his friend and said friend's family to die against the creature to save his own skin.
  • Berserk Button: Insinuating that Lucy isn't a monster, or that Bobby is not a hero, is a surefire way to set Bobby off. Although given his Hair-Trigger Temper — and his uncovered psychological profile — it seems that not getting his way in general extremely annoys him at best. Being continuously rejected, or humiliated in some way, and having his narrative challenged over the story, Bobby reacts more and more with homicidal fury.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Next to Rochelle, Sarah is the more outwardly friendly and down to earth of the Coven girls, always wanting to help people and do the right thing. But in the same way their relationship "softened" Nancy, it would seem like Nancy "hardened" Sarah a little in return. She and Nancy think nothing of trying to magically choke Bobby during his earlier altercation with Brigitte, during which Sarah's the one with the stronger hold; when she hears Bobby made an attack on Amy's mother, Sarah argues against killing him...if only because she thinks it would be too easy on him.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: Between Miss Petrie and Dean Lilita Morgan (Inanna). As headmistress of the D.E.B.S Petrie exploited Brigitte's condition over the years, and the brains behind the manhunt for Lucy and Amy; Morgan is the head of Silas, and mastermind of much of it's happenings, with the Corvae Corporation in her pocket. However Morgan is pretty hands off, with Petrie being the more visible and active antagonist. Petrie also starts a partnership with Vordenberg. The Dean even offers an Enemy Mine against Petrie; who plans to use Yobidashi-gawa and it's monster to frame Lucy for attacking cities for D.E.B.S Engineered Heroics. Petire is also joined by Baron Vordenberg, revealed to be a former headmaster of D.E.B.S Silas Campus, and a shareholder with Crovae.
  • Big Bad Wannabe: In Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed, Ghost is revealed as the ultimate villain, who successfully trapped Brigitte and forced her to undergo a transformation, hoping to weaponize her to slay her enemies. In the prologue, Ghost is immediately pushed aside when her capture of Brigitte is uncovered, with Ghost being put away and Brigitte getting much bigger fish to fry.
  • Black-and-White Insanity: Throughout the story, Bobby has a rather childish view of his career as an agent — imagining himself as "the lovechild of G.I. Joe and Dirty Harry", not caring about collateral damage as long as he can put a heroic spin on them. In his mind, Lucy is a monstrous supervillain that he must save "his girl" from, and must be killed to stop her "threat". He is so committed to this line of thinking, he brutalizes Amy's mother for not taking his side, and kills several cops for the "mistreating" him — read: arresting and beating him for assault — declaring them "enemy combatants" for pulling their guns on him.

  • Canon Welding: Besides the main crossovers included in this fic and its sequels, Scream is mentioned as being canon to this fics universe. However it is later all but stated that Freddy vs. Jason is canon to this timeline, as the character Gibb Smith appears in a minor but critical role — being revealed as an alias for Ginger Fitzgerald after she went into hiding. This does cause a bit of a Celebrity Paradox as A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th are works of fiction within Scream. However, this story's follow up  does a similar handwave with Halloween. note
  • Cerebus Retcon/Cerebus Syndrome: While D.E.B.S. is very much a lighthearted romantic comedy and spy parody, this story puts a darker in dramatic spin on things due to clashing with the heavier tones of Ginger Snaps and The Craft. These include...
    • In D.E.B.S., Lucy's Freudian Excuse of her family being wiped out in a blood feud is mentioned a few times in passing, but not significantly dwelled upon, with Lucy herself not being so shaken up about it. In this fic, this backstory is given a subplot, focusing on how her family's murder affected her, as well as her revenge quest shaping her into the criminal mastermind she became.
    • In D.E.B.S., Amy is initially in denial about being gay and attracted to Lucy, and is nearly forced back in the closet when the Academy finds out about her affair with Lucy. This fic gives Amy a backstory showing she grew up in an apparently conservative environment. While not explicitly confirmed, Amy believes her father may have been homophobic, but he died before her LGBT Awakening. This lack of closure made her an Armored Closet Gay, and very reluctant to reach out to her mother, especially when she started dating Lucy.
    • In D.E.B.S., Lucy's alleged plot to destroy Australia is played for comedy as a Noodle Incident and a Brick Joke. According to the script, she also had an Australian ex, and her reluctance to get into a relationship implies things went south. In this story, not only does Lucy's plot with Australia become a plot point — see Adaptation Expansion — it's not only used by the Academy as an excuse to demonize Lucy, but they intend to recreate her attempt for a False Flag Operation.
    • In D.E.B.S. it's revealed that Lucy never actually met or killed any D.E.B.S agents during her career, and their deaths were from seemingly unrelated causes. It's also revealed that the Academy isn't above pushing a fake story in order to bolster their reputation. This story takes it to the conclusion that Petrie had these agents killed or left to die in order to claim that Lucy is a threat and a Hero Killer.
    • In D.E.B.S., Bobby was an incompetent agent with a Jerk Jock streak, whose immaturity is played almost entirely for comedy. He was also skeevy and pushy ex-boyfriend, who thought he could "cure" Amy, later trying to kill Lucy out of jealousy. While this isn't played with a lot of weight in the movie proper, this fic takes these same traits, gradually playing them for Drama and Horror. Bobby is spun as a Lethally Stupid Sociopathic Soldier, whose actions have gotten people hurt and killed. His entitlement towards Amy is portrayed as a vicious, incel-like mindset, and his murderous jealousy towards Lucy is played with a lot more weight. His attitude is also treated as a red flag for a potential abuser, especially as he begins lashing when things don't go his way.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Sarah has this issue, and it's the reason she and the Coven girls get involved in this mission. Sarah and Rochelle previously passed the D.E.B.S hidden test, and were offered a spot in their academy which they turned down. However, Sarah still has this need to help people, and a tendency to drag her friends along with her — to Nancy's chagrin. When they get word of the D.E.B.S agents and Silas and their mission, Sarah rallies the Coven to get to the bottom of this. On a less adventurous note, when Sarah and Nancy meet Brigitte and see she's in a bad way, they both step up to help her; this results in them not only befriending Brigitte, but falling in love with her.
  • Composite Character: In Gibb Smith, of Freddy vs. Jason makes a cameo appearance, her resemblance to Ginger Fitzgerald is brought up. It's soon revealed that Gibb is a surviving Ginger, and it's implied she's joined a protection program of sorts after her supposed death.
  • Cop Killer: Following his arrest in Huston, Bobby makes an escape plan with the help of another agent. This escape plan sees a bomb going in the precinct and results in several officers being killed. When Bobby is confronted about this by his angry superiors, he makes an argument that the cops were "enemy combatants" because of how they treated him — that being beating him while arresting him (and possibly afterwards) and pulling their guns on him a number of times.
  • Creepy Loner Girl: When Brigitte is brought into the D.E.B.S Academy, she re-adjusts to playing this role from her days in Bailey Downs. While she wasn't a student or agent, she preferred keeping to herself on campus, although her being a werewolf is an Open Secret and her reputation from back at home followed her; which leads to rumours following her around. When press ganged into the titular mission, she does find herself coming out of her shell as she meets and befriends the Coven Girls. After all, they "are the weirdos" too.
  • Darker and Edgier: Compared to D.E.B.S., which was a fairly lighthearted romantic comedy, with a spy parody aesthetic. While it has its share of drama, it was never as heavy as anything portrayed in this fic. However, the reason for this is due to being Demographic-Dissonant Crossover; with darker and dramatic works  — Ginger Snaps and The Craft — carrying their edgier elements into this setting. And while Carmilla the Series also has darker elements, a lot of the time the horror is left to the imagination, and sometimes played for dark comedy. In this story, they are played almost entirely for horror and drama. On the other hand...
  • Dark Is Not Evil:
    • Lucy Diamond, still even with her Heel–Face Turn, still dresses predominantly in black, and isn't shy of flexing her former power as criminal mastermind. She only wants to retire and start a new life with Amy, and only gets involved because the D.E.B.S Academy won't stop their pursuit, and end up causing greater problems than she did.
    • Brigitte, with her dark and drowsy demeanor, troubled history, and word of her being a werewolf being known to the Academy, is treated as something of an on campus boogeyman. Like with canon, she's portrayed as an — albeit edgy and cynical — Misunderstood Loner with a Heart of Gold, who initially just wants to keep to herself. The more she interacts with others over the story, the more she comes out of her shell.
    • As part of her Adaptational Nice Guy bit, Nancy Downs gets this treatment. She still has her gothic image and an attitude from before her Face–Heel Turn in The Craft. Because this turn never occurs in this timeline, Nancy still seems outwardly hardened and aloof, but is more of a Perky Goth with a Hidden Heart of Gold she usually lets her friends and love interests see. She also works part time as a daycare teacher and is genuinely — if unusually — affectionate to the children she looks after.
  • Darkened Building Shootout: One occurs in the former D.E.B.S campus is Silas County, when the agents investigating the abandoned academy, they end up awakening Count Karnstein. Janet ends up gunning him down after he stalks and tries to pick off several agents.
  • Dating Catwoman: As with D.E.B.S., Lucy and Amy's relationship is given the Decon-Recon Switch. While Lucy genuinely wants to put her life of crime behind her, Amy is still made a traitor to the Academy for running away with her. It seems simply settling down isn't going to be easy as the Academy is still chasing them, and Lucy ends up having to get her hands dirty to help them. Amy herself is implied to be going down a ruthless path when Bobby batters and hospitalized her mother to punish Amy for rejecting him him.
  • Decoy Antagonist:
    • Picking up immediately where Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed ends, the first chapter opens with Ghost preparing to greet her grandmother, who she plans to murder...only to be greeted by D.E.B.S recruitment agents, having unwittingly found and completed an online test. However, because Ghost's crimes in the movie are exposed, she's immediately arrested while Brigitte is taken in by the Academy.
    • Of a sort with the Big Bad Ensemble, Lilita Morgan, the Dean of Silas University is seemingly set up as an antagonist in the initial chapters. And while she is the one running Silas and her dark history often comes up, she poses no direct threat to any of the protagonists, and doesn't even antagonize them when they come face to face. She's closer to a Villain of Another Story here, and even offers an Enemy Mine to the protagonists once it is clear that Petrie and her plans for the Academy are the real threat here.
  • Demographic-Dissonant Crossover:
    • On one hand,D.E.B.S. is a spy parody mixed with a romantic comedy. Even with its sprinkles of drama, it doesn't go anywhere too heavy. Both The Craft and Ginger Snaps are more dark, dramatic and grounded (by comparison) teen horror movies; which while having moments of levity, ultimately take a grim turn. This leads to the tones of these works clashing and blending together, be it D.E.B.S. zanier tone, or the grittier tones of Ginger Snaps.
    • On the other hand, Carmilla the Series is an Affectionate Parody of the Urban Fantasy genre. While the series can also be pretty light hearted, it doesn't shy away from its heavier subject matter. As a result, it ends up bringing a "balance" between the clashing tones.
  • Disposable Woman: Exploited. Due to Bobby's connections to the Academy, he is able to get off scot free from a lot of his troubles; especially if it helps the Academy push a narrative; doubly so if Bobby can make himself look like a hero. When Jilian Rhodes, an agent who was dating Bobby, is injured on the job going after Lucy, Bobby gives the go-ahead to the Academy to have Jillian put down in the Academy's hospital. With the "official" story saying she died from injuries Lucy gave her, Bobby uses Jillian as a "Fridged" love interest for his Hurting Hero act; not even bothering to remember her name when he tries to bring her up to Amy.
  • Dogged Nice Guy: Amy's ex boyfriend, Bobby is an antagonistic example, much like his canon counterpart. He acts like an outwardly caring, but immature and controlling, boyfriend to Amy — not accepting their breakup, acting very entitled and pushy of her. Unlike Bobby's canon self, this is taken into a much darker light; showing Bobby with an incel-like mindset when Amy continues to reject him, lashing out like an abuser would when things don't go his way. When he corners Amy at a restaurant, he tries love bombing her and making her "see the truth" about Lucy — during which he takes her hand into a tight grip; when he fails to sway her, Bobby "accidentally" breaks two of Amy's fingers, blaming her for making him do that.
  • Draconic Abomination: Carrying over from Love's Sacrifices, Hastur is implied to be this, with snake and dragon iconography being used to represent him. We also have his "rival", The "sea dragon" of Odo Island; blending this trope with Dinosaurs Are Dragons, this thing is seen as a dinosaur-like amphibious creature, and was thought of as a "dragon god" by the people of Odo Island. It's described as having near human intelligence; has lived on Earth for millenia; immune to man made weapons, including nuclear arms; and is said to have fought Hastur in the far past, along with other gods and monsters. According to Dean Lilita Morgan, this creature is responsible for the extinction of the Deep Ones, and even she — a fallen goddess — is terrified of him.
  • Dragon-in-Chief:
    • Matska "Mattie" Belmonde serves as one of Dean Morgan's Co-Dragons, being her adopted daughter and her shareholder and proxy for the Corvae Corporation. However, Mattie has Crovae reach out to the D.E.B.S Agency and Academy, forming a partnership with Petire to fund the D.E.B.S with their technology. She aids in their plans to to awaken the Odo Island "dragon", but it's implied that she's also using them for her own ends. Even when blackmailed by Lucy after she steals Mattie's Soul Jar, Mattie herself is still playing all sides against eachother.
    • Played with, regarding Bobby Matthews. While he isn't the second in command to Miss Petrie, he is made head of the investigation and "rescue" mission for Amy...only to get arrested on the first day on the job due to his hot-headedness getting him arrested. While Bobby may be an incompetent field agent, it's portrayed as him being Lethally Stupid, which makes him more immediately dangerous than Petrie, a Non-Action Big Bad with little real control over him. However, It's Personal with the Dragon for Amy, as she is Bobby's primary focus in this mission. And soon, taking revenge on Bobby for hurting her mother, becomes Amy's priority.
    • The "Sea Dragon" was a somewhat literal example to Lucy; being something she tried to weaponize in the past, and successfully used to decimate the last of the Schaeffer family and allegedly plotted to set the beast onto Australia. It is made clear throughout that this thing is far more dangerous than powerful than Lucy ever was, and Lucy herself had no real control over it — simply a "communications device" that can be used to call upon it. Petrie and her conspiracy plan to weaponize the dragon for a False Flag operation for their Engineered Heroics, with it being implied that they're also in over their heads.
  • The Dreaded:
    • Subverted with Lucy and Brigitte.
      • Lucy has a reputation among the Academy as a dangerous criminal mastermind, threat to the world, and is said to have killed any agent that went after her. But like her canon counterpart, Lucy's real personality is that of an affable, quirky and down to Earth young woman, despite being a competent master criminal. However, much of her reputation and the crimes she's accused of turn out to be gross exaggerations and embellishments by  the Academy. All the agents "Lucy" killed ? Petrie has been leaving them for dead, sometimes ordering their deaths to frame Lucy as a Hero Killer.
      • When Brigitte is taken in by the D.E.B.S Academy, word of her being a werewolf and her troubled history gets out, and she's ostracized as this on-campus boogeyman — especially when Petrie uses Brigitte's transformations to her advantage; setting a transformed Brigitte loose on training students as an exercise. Brigitte herself is more of a Misunderstood Loner with a Heart of Gold, who wants to Never Be Hurt Again, and is content with being a loner. As Amy and her friend group get to better know Brigitte, they are put off by hearing other agents and students whispering about her behind her back.
    • The Odo Island "Sea Dragon" has a reputation befitting of a giant dinosaur-like monster Shrouded in Myth. Every scene involving it, whether in person or discussion conveys a sense of terror of this creature. Part of its backstory mentions that there were numerous attempts to kill it, which includes nuclear weapons tests. All of which failed. Notably, even the Dean of Silas — as in the fallen goddess Inanna — is terrified at the possibility of it showing up in Silas, even offering the protagonists a hand at stopping it. According to the Dean, this creature is responsible for wiping out the Deep Ones, and may be responsible for slaying Hastur in a far off past.

     E-H

  • Enemy Mine: While not really enemies, the Coven girls and Amy's friends are technically on opposite ends of the latter's mission — ostensibly answering to the Dean of Silas. While Sarah and Rochelle try to get to know them, Nancy is more ambivalent towards their mission. To a lesser extent this applies to Lucy, as she is the target of the D.E.B.S manhunt, but similarly just hangs out with Amy and her friends. Though when Petrie's False Flag Operation is uncovered, both teams opt to work together to bring down this operation. Even the Dean of Silas offers an alliance with them when she learns that they may have the Odo dragon on their hands.
  • Engineered Heroics: It's revealed that Petire is really banking on taking Lucy down in order to bolster her Academy and Agency's reputation. To that end, she had the Academy fabricate or exaggerate several of Lucy's crimes in order to make her look like a bigger threat than she actually is — going as far as leaving several students and agents to die, if not outright having them killed — to push this narrative. Getting their hands on Yobidashi-gawa, they plan on setting loose the dragon of Odo Island loose, and using the weapons made by Corvae to defeat it, "proving" that Lucy is the threat and the D.E.B.S are heroes for stopping it.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • Early on, Brigitte tries to be ambivalent to other people's "drama" as part of her isolated Creepy Loner Girl bit. Though early on she is shaken when she learns that the Academy had their students killed to push a narrative, and previously tried to Amy about Bobby's skeevier side before their breakup.
    • Upon learning that Bobby beat Amy's mother to near death, Sarah — in a case of Beware the Nice Ones — doesn't advocate killing Bobby, if only because that would be letting him off easy. On the other side of the coin Nancy — who isn't above murderous revenge herself — tells a vengeful Amy that it won't give her the catharsis she thinks it will, speaking from experience.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas: Lucy Diamond loved her deceased father and brothers, and in her backstory here, it's revealed that her mother was the last one to go. It's mentioned that the last of the Schaeffer family hit Lucy's mother with a car and she later died in hospital. Deciding she had nothing else to lose, Lucy goes on the warpath against the last of the Schaeffer siblings. When Bobby later attacks Amy's mother, Lucy is a little disturbed to see Amy going into the same thought process.
  • Even Evil Has Standards:
    • Part of the reason Lucy's reputation was exaggerated. She's a thief, criminal mastermind, and not above killing her enemies. However, she seems to refrain from actually killing innocent people. And while she did consider destroying Australia using the the Odo Island dragon, by all accounts she couldn't go through with it, stopping short of the finish line. It's implied this was brought about by the fallout of a toxic relationship, and not something she seriously wanted to do.
    • Defied by the Academy — mainly Bobby and Petrie — towards Lucy's supposed crimes; apparently seeing her as a threat to be eliminated, especially for her previous plot to destroy Australia. However, it's quickly shown that much of their propaganda against Lucy is just that. Many of Lucy's "crimes" were either exaggerated or fabricated by the Academy. Much of their "standards" are performative hand wringing and posturing for their "heroic" image. They becomes especially hollow when they plot a False Flag Operation to frame Lucy for setting the Odo Island Dragon loose for their Engineered Heroics.
    • Similarly, Petrie uses Brigitte's "troubled history" —supposedly killing her sister; killing another werewolf who was stalking her; being a runaway, who later broke out of rehab; and being considered a "delinquent" — as proof of her being a flight risk to be kept on a leash. Like with Lucy, Petrie's "standards" towards Brigitte is shallow posturing. Bobby also expresses exaggerated horror at the allegations that Brigitte killed a dog...when it's soon revealed that Bobby himself once hurt a dog so badly it needed to be put down, yet again making these standards very hollow.
    • Subverted with Baron Vordenberg. In a flashback, where he has a former friend of his gunned down to escape a rampaging dragon, and shoots his friend's wife for trying to retaliate. Vordenberg considers killing their young grandson for calling him a monster, only refraining because "Heroes don't kill children"...so instead, he leaves the kid behind with the rampaging sea dragon, while Vordenberg flees without a shed of guilt as the boy is caught in the dragon's crossfire.
  • Evil Old Folks: Both Mrs. Petrie and Baron Vordenberg serve as two of the major antagonists. Petrie is described as being in her late fifties, while Vordenberg is described as being in his sixties.
  • Fake Ultimate Hero: Zigzagged within the D.E.B.S Academy themselves. While they are a ostensibly heroic spy agency, with many of their agents snuffing out threats and crime rings in the past, their higher ups — particularly Petrie — often exaggerate or fabricate Lucy Diamond's crimes to make her out to be a greater threat than she actually is in order to bolster the D.E.B.S heroic reputation. This culminates in...
    • False Flag Operation: The Academy and their partners eventually get their hands on the Yobidashi-gawa — a mystical device that can communicate with the Dragon of Odo Island — which Lucy used against her enemies in the past. The Academy intends to use the device to engineer a series of attacks to frame Lucy for, and make their agency look like heroes for trying to stop her.
  • Faux Action Girl: Amy, being something that carried over from the movie. Sure, she is considered the top D.E.B, mainly because she's the only one who got a 100% score on her test. However she lacks any real fighting prowess or experience, with her only training being basic self defense. However, this doesn't stop her from trying to train herself further.
  • Feeling Oppressed by Their Existence: Implied to be the source of Petrie's disdain for Brigitte. It has little to do with Brigitte being a werewolf or a potential threat, and everything to do with Brigitte being a tomboyish "delinquent" with a troubled past. Petrie takes pride in the D.E.B.S image at a preppy and disciplined academy, while Brigitte, being a Creepy Loner Girl, is the antithesis of what Petrie considers an ideal student. As far as Petrie is concerned, her treatment of Brigitte is just the Academy "graciously" rehabilitating a rebellious punk who needed to be kept in line. Amy tells Petrie to her face that maybe this, and Brigitte surviving her hardships, intimidates Petrie.
  • First Love: Brigitte gets two of these with Sarah and Nancy, bonding with them over the story, before soon becoming romantically involved with both. Brigitte feels a little out of her comfort zone, as this is the first serious relationship she's been in.
  • Former Teen Rebel:
    • In Amy's backstory, it's revealed despite her preppy "Good Girl" image she had at the D.E.B.S Academy, she was a tomboyish and rebellious punk in high school; with a history of delinquency, drugs and drinking that escalated when her father was murdered. When Amy reveals her history, comparisons are made between the girl she used to be and the kind of girls Ginger and Brigitte were. Amy states that much of her "good girl" image was from the Academy dolling her up to be their poster girl.
    • Gibb Smith is a downplayed example, being a former party girl before her near death experience. Following this, she is more down to earth and living as a mundane college student. It's soon revealed that "Gibb" is a surviving Ginger Fitzgerald, apparently in a witness protection program of sorts.
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse:
    • Inverted with Brigitte and Petrie. In canon, Brigitte has been through multiple traumas — being a runaway; stabbing her sister in self-defence; being stalked and nearly sexually assaulted; and being betrayed and imprisoned by a friend. When Brigitte is taken in by the Academy, Petrie shows No Sympathy for Brigitte's past, treating her like a flight risk. Petrie regularly belittles Brigitte using her own "troubled past" — which consists of having to go to prep and military school. Petrie apparently considers having to climb a rope to be worse than anything Brigitte went through. Amy suggests the real reason Petrie dislikes Brigitte is because Brigitte having a worse past than hers intimidates her.
    • Also Inverted with Lucy and Bobby. Bobby makes a dismissive "Cool motive, still murder" remark towards Lucy's past of her family being killed by the Schaffer's. The way Bobby dismisses it, you'd almost think the Schaeffer's as innocent victims of this unjust revenge plot by Lucy. Considering what's later revealed of Bobby's history — which consists of Accidental Murder and battery — his refusal to accept responsibility or treatment during his psychological evaluations, it's really a case of the pot calling the kettle black.
  • Good Is Not Soft: Out of the Coven girls, Sarah is one of the more easy going and altruistic of her circle. However, in the same way their relationship made Nancy soften over the years, it seems Sarah has "hardened" as well. When they witnesses an altercation between Brigitte and Bobby, Sarah and Nancy thinks nothing of magically choking Bobby out to subdue him...with Sarah holding the stronger grip. During a trip to a club, when a rude customer spills Brigitte's drink and calls her a "bitch", Sarah and Nancy confront the guy — with Sarah warning him that such things are punishable by a stomp in the nuts — before making him apologize.
  • Heal the Cutie: Even without their canon falling out, Sarah and Nancy were both in pretty bad situations, not unlike their counterparts in The Craft with both Sarah's Dark and Troubled Past and Nancy's troubled home life weighing on both of them. In this timeline, Sarah and Nancy's relationship  — and their friendship with Rochelle and Bonnie — helped become (considerably) healthier and healed individuals. When they meet a similarly troubled and traumatized Birgitte, they reach out to befriend her over the story. Eventually both become romantically involved with her, and help Brigitte heal from her past.
  • Hero of Another Story:
    • Carmilla has her own history with the Fitzgerald sister's ancestors, having apparently met their 19th century counterparts in a caravan, and had a love affair with Ginger at the time. This story is only vaguely talked about in the present day, with Carmilla herself going on a vacation for much of the story; where she ends up finding the present day Ginger Fitzgerald.
    • Gibb Smith from Freddy vs. Jason plays a minor but critical role as a college student in Ontario; after surviving the events of the film, seemingly uninvolved with the main plot...only to soon be revealed as Ginger Fitzgerald herself, having survived her stabbing and went about living a different identity. The full story isn't told here, but it's currently implied she's in a witness protection deal of sorts.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: Lucy and Amy, and Brigitte are Downplayed examples. In Amy's case, the Academy is willing to play her off as an "innocent victim" of kidnapping by Lucy, but Petrie is all too willing to write her off as a traitor to their cause when Amy affirms her relationship with Lucy.
    • In Lucy's case, calling her a "Hero" is stretching it; being a criminal mastermind who committed a number of thefts, and wiped out a rival crime family that exterminated her own — as well as allegedly attempting to destroy Australia. Much of Lucy's villainous reputation is based on exaggerations and fabrications by the Academy pushing an Engineered Heroics agenda. Notably, the stories of Lucy killing several D.E.B.S agents and students; it turns out the Academy themselves have been killing these agents or leaving them to die to support their narrative. They also intend to set loose the Dragon of Odo Island on targeted cities to frame Lucy as a threat, and increase their reputation for "stopping" her.
    • While calling Brigitte a hero is stretching it, she has a dubious reputation after the events of Ginger Snaps; which became more murky after the second film with her escaping from rehab, with several bodies left behind by her stalker. Because of this, when the Academy takes her in, she is subjected to rumors, hearsay and slander demonizing her throughout her stay. Brigitte outwardly doesn't mind, preferring to be a Creepy Loner Girl, but it's shown throughout this reception bothers her a lot more than she lets on.
  • Heroic BSoD: Amy is put into a depressive episode when her mother is assaulted and hospitalized by Bobby. She begins to channel it into anger, planning to fight and kill Bobby herself as revenge — much to the concern of her friends and Lucy. Especially when Amy causes her wrists to bleed while beating a punching bag.
  • Heroic Wannabe: The D.E.B.S Academy — or at least its head, Petrie — is interested in boosting their reputation first and stopping threats second. While the Agents and students have stopped genuine threats and criminals in the past, with characters like Petrie and Bobby, it doesn't come from a genuine place. In Bobby's case, he seems more interested in playing out this heroic agent fantasy, and lashing out when his perspective is repeatedly challenged. This goes so far, that Petrie conspires to set loose an ancient monster to frame Lucy as a threat, for an Engineered Heroics scheme. Fittingly, the like minded Baron Vordenberg joins the conspiracy. The Dean of Silas puts it thusly.
Lilita Morgan: "I've seen it all before; some foolish knight in shining armor with romantic aspirations of being the hero. So much so, that when the knight didn't have a dragon to slay, he'd set one loose upon his kingdom."
  • Homosexual Reproduction: This happens with Sarah and Nancy, as a result of ritualistic sex they engage with Brigitte, meant to bend the rules of nature. Their intent was to try to cure Brigitte of her curse; but instead, Nancy becomes pregnant by Sarah's lifeforce.

    I-N

  • Ignored Epiphany: When Bobby's psychological profile was uncovered, it's revealed his Cowboy Cop act got a hostage and most of his squad killed during his first mission. While seemingly shaken and regretful about what he did, he refused any psychological treatment to avoid embarrassing his family. After a while, Bobby soon loses his conscience completely, and won't even entertain the idea of treatment. Let alone that he did anything wrong.
  • Immediate Sequel: Twice over. The prologue picks up right at the end of Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed, revealing that Ghost unwittingly came across and passed the D.E.B.S. exam, leading to Brigitte's uncovery. This fics timeline also sets Unleashed in early 2001, occurring months after the original Ginger Snaps (October, 2000). There is then a four year Time Skip; with the main storyline begins the very next day following the events of D.E.B.S., taking place over the course of May, 2004.
  • It's Personal with the Dragon: Despite being the Big Bad, Petrie is less active against the protagonists; even with her animosity towards Brigitte, the two rarely interact face to face. In fact, she's on the other side of the planet for most of the story. However, Amy's ex boyfriend Bobby, who was put in charge of Amy's "Rescue Mission", making it his mission to get Amy back and kill Lucy for "stealing her" from him. With this, Bobby is seen as a much more personable antagonist to Lucy, Amy and their friends throughout. Especially when Bobby accosts and hospitalizes Amy's mother. With this, Bobby is seen as almost as much of a threat as Petrie, even if he's working under her.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold:
    • Nancy Downs, having not gone through her Face–Heel Turn in this timeline, is portrayed as this. Nancy fronts as being an Aloof Dark-Haired Girl, though has a Hidden Heart of Gold she only shows to those close to her — which ends up including Brigitte. It's implied that her relationship with Sarah softened Nancy over the years, making her into more of a Perky Goth. She also had a history of losing multiple jobs around Silas due to her disagreeable behavior; but when settled into a daycare job, she turns out to be a Friend to All Children. She is affectionate enough to the children she looks after, that she nicknames them her "Ducklings" — she's not above warning her friends not to bring it up outside of work.
    • Max and Dominique, as per their canon counterparts, are the more pushy and stuck up members of Amy's friends. However, it's also made clear they do genuinely care about Amy and want what's best for her. Even when they are initially standoffish and hostile towards Brigitte, they do sympathize with her when they hear her whole story...even if they don't show it. Unfortunately, they are both Forced into Evil when Petrie has bugs placed in them to monitor them, and force them into going along with the mission; the more lines the Academy crosses, the more Max and Dominique are put off by the mission.
  • Jumping Off the Slippery Slope:
    • In canon, Miss Petrie at worst tried to push a false narrative around Amy and Lucy, and try to have Amy "cured". With her Adaptational Villainy, it's revealed Petire has been leaving agents to die — if not having them killed — to push the story that Lucy is a threat to the known world. She also does sketchier things such as planting bugs in Max and Dominique to monitor them; setting a transformed Brigitte loose as a "training exercise" for students; and finally plans a series of attacks on population centers to frame Lucy and "prove" and make the D.E.B.S look likee heroes for stopping.
    • Similarly with Bobby, in canon he was just a pushy ex-boyfriend, who also tries to kill Lucy out of spite after Amy publicly declares she loves her. In this fic, Bobby shows increasingly unhinged behavior when things don't go his way, which culminates in him battering Amy's mother into hospitalization to "punish" Amy's rejection, and later has a police precinct bombed to escape from holding. It's further revealed he previously hospitalized one past girlfriend; gave the okay to have another put down; and accidentally got his team and a hostage killed in a shootout. If Bobby crossed the line before, he sinks further here.
  • Loving a Shadow:
    • Much of Amy's past reputation and her relationship with Bobby falls into this. Bobby was an immature and clingy boyfriend, while Amy had to present the image of being an ideal D.E.B.S student/agent. It's soon revealed that Amy's public image was largely fabricated by the Academy upon her enrollment; Amy was a lot more tomboyish and rebellious in high school, before the Academy "dolled her up" to fit their ideals. It's all but spelled out that Bobby just loved the idea of dating the top D.E.B. It's further revealed that Bobby sees his life through the lense of a "heroic" spy fantasy, with Phipps silently concluding Bobby no longer sees people as people because of it. The main reason Bobby goes off the deep end is because of Amy shedding this image, and going against his delusion.
    • Inverted in regard to Petrie and Brigitte, which is more of a case of "Hating a Shadow". Petrie's concern is the image of her Academy/Agency as a prestigious, and disciplined heroic spies and students. Hence Amy's "dolling up". In Brigitte's case, being a Creepy Loner Girl with a Dark and Troubled Past make her the opposite of the ideal D.E.B.S student, and a target of Petrie's disdain. As far as Petrie is concerned, Brigitte's just a delinquent and runaway punk who needed to be put in her place. Brigitte being a Misunderstood Loner with a Heart of Gold just doesn't register in Petrie's mind. It's implied that Brigitte's lycanthropy is an excuse for Petrie to dehumanize her further, treating her like a mad dog to be kept on a leash. As Brigitte is told, it's not who she is or what she's done that Petrie despises — it's what she is.
  • Love Redeems: Played With.
    • As with the movie, Lucy's relationship with Amy inspired her to try to give up her life of crime and start over a new leaf. But when the D.E.B.S continue chasing them down, Lucy is all too willing to get her hands dirty again. Following Bobby's attack on Amy's mother, Amy begins taking a dark and vengeful turn, which leaves Lucy unnerved.
    • Due to Nancy not undergoing her canon Face–Heel Turn, her relationship with Sarah has elements of this, with the two helping each other heal from their respective trauma, and ending up being considerably healthier individuals. After years of dating Sarah, Nancy has softened into more of a Perky Goth, with a Jerk with a Heart of Gold streak. On the other hand, dating Nancy apparently ended up "hardening" Sarah a little, if Sarah's Beware the Nice Ones and Good Is Not Soft moments are any indication.
  • Magic Versus Science: Played With.
    • The D.E.B.S are an agency that has their hands on advanced technology for their weapons and tools, and are investigating Silas county as a hotspot for the paranormal; they have also formed a team up with the Corvae Corporation in a bid to get their hands on superweapons. On the other hand, we have the Coven, which of course are witches, who primarily use magic over technology as a problem solver.
    • While it's commonly believed that Lucy used a Kill Sat in her plot against Australia, it's revealed she had her hands on "Yobidashi-gawa" — an allegedly mystical device, capable of communicating with a Draconic Abomination...which the Academy intends to weaponize as a False Flag Operations.
  • Misery Poker: Miss Petrie's reaction to Brigitte's Dark and Troubled Past is to dismiss her as Playing the Victim Card...which Petrie herself immediately does by bringing up her time in boarding school. Apparently, Petrie finds climbing a rope comparable to everything Brigitte went through. When called out on it, Amy tells Petrie to her face that she's probably just intimidated at the idea that Brigitte had it worse than her.
  • Moral Myopia: Bobby is so wrapped up in his self righteous perspective, he is genuinely shocked and offended when anyone strikes back against him. Case in point, Bobby justifies having a police precinct blown up after his second arrest, claiming the slain officers were "enemy combatants''. His reasoning for this is because they point their guns at him, and manhandled him in second arrest; which was done following Bobby's assault on Liane Bradshaw; which Bobby did because she wouldn't take his side.
  • Mystical Pregnancy: This happens with Sarah and Nancy. When they sleep with Brigitte, they attempt to ritualistically bend nature and try to cure Brigitte of her lycanthropy. While they aren't successful in curing Brigitte, this results in Nancy becoming magically impregnated by Sarah's Life Energy.
  • Named by the Adaptation: In Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed, the character "Ghost" is only known by her nickname, with no real name being mentioned. In this fic, her legal name is "Amanda Harrington".
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: At first, Bobby isn't too far off from his canon counterpart; being a Jerk Jock Fratbro in the form of an agent, and an immature oaf who barely poses a threat to Lucy and Amy. As the story goes on, Bobby's attitude begins taking a darker turn, lashing out as an abuser would; batters Amy's mother to "punish" Amy herself; and having a precinct blown up during his escape, killing several cops in the process.
  • Not-So-Well-Intentioned Extremist:
    • Miss Petrie, Headmistress and Director of the D.E.B.S, prioritizes boosting her agency's reputation first, and actually stopping threats second. While her agents have earnestly stopped multiple threats and criminals in the past, Petrie herself is a Glory Seeker, who would go as far as exaggerating or fabricating Lucy's crimes to sell her as a threat to the known world. After getting involved with Corvae, Petrie plans to use Yobidashi-gawa — a weapon Lucy acquired, capable of calling on a mythical sea dragon — to frame Lucy for a series of attacks, and make the D.E.B.S look like heroes for "stopping" her.
    • As with canon, Bobby acts like a concerned ex-boyfriend who joins a rescue mission to save Amy from the criminal mastermind who "abducted" her. This fic takes it to a darker and more extreme direction, deluding himself into thinking he's saving Amy from an abuser, when he lashes out like one when things don't go his way. In Bobby's eye's, Lucy's worst crime is stealing his girl; and after a while, Bobby's new goal is to punish Amy for choosing Lucy, starting off by visiting her mother Liane, and battering her to an inch of her life.
  • Notzilla: The "sea dragon" is described as a towering dinosaur-like beast, which walks upright and breathes white hot flames, and was apparently the basis behind mythical sea monsters such as Leviathan. To drive the point home, this creature first awoke in the modern era after WWII, by the use of nuclear weapons — some of which were used to try to kill it. It has a history of fighting other monsters and god-like beings in the far past — which includes Hastur, whose true form is implied to be a three-headed golden dragon. If that wasn't enough, the island it's associated with is also called "Odo Island". Pretty much the only reason the G-Name isn't used on this page, is because it's not used within the fic itself.

     O-S
  • Only Sane by Comparison: Sarah — along with Rochelle — are a lot more down to Earth and easy going of their friend group, and especially compared to the multiple eccentric characters. However, Sarah herself isn't shy about her own eccentricities, having a share of Shameless Fanservice Girl and Beware the Nice Ones moments. An example of the latter includes Sarah suggesting that Amy shouldn't kill Bobby to avenge her mother — not for any moral objections, but because she thinks killing him would be letting him off easy.
  • Our Dragons Are Different: Due to the supernatural presences in this story, the existence of werewolves, magic, vampires and ancient gods isn't too out of the ordinary for Silas. With exception of the Odo Island Dragon — an ancient leviathan thought of as a mythic being even within Silas. It is described as a towering dinosaur-like creature, with draconic powers such as breathing flames and enduring nuclears blasts. It's unclear if it is a natural but extraordinary creature, or if it's another supernatural being. According to the Dean of Silas, this dragon is responsible for wiping out the Deep Ones.
  • Our Werewolves Are Different: Werewolves in this fic differ from their counterparts in Ginger Snaps in that their transformations are akin to a virus, with a slow transformation, and implied permanent change. In this fic, the slow and permanent transformation isn't the case. According to chapter notes, this was because the permanent change isn't something mentioned explicitly in the movies, and can be overlooked. In fact, the same notes mention that werewolves are closer to their depiction in The Vampire Diaries Universe or Teen Wolf than with Ginger Snaps. This is also a case of Pragmatic Adaptation — Brigitte can't exactly have this story arc if she was perpetually stuck in her wolf form.
  • Outside-Context Problem: In regards to Ginger Snaps and The Craft, their characters are used to dealing with comparatively more grounded threats with a Magic Realism angle. Meanwhile D.E.B.S., is a spy parody movie, whose "threat" is Lucy Diamond, a parody and subversion of a spy villain. And then there's Carmilla the Series, which includes threats such as vampire cults, and ancient gods — and even the latter is a Greater-Scope Villain threat. A rampaging, ancient "sea dragon" is a little out of left field for any of these works and their characters, with even the Dean of Silas dreading it's awakening.
  • Politically Incorrect Hero: Amy's deceased father, Clay Bradshaw is implied to be this. Clay was a cop who was protective of Amy throughout her childhood, and tries to keep her away from "undesirable" influences; which includes a gay couple he was suspicious of. It's revealed Amy was reluctant to accept her feelings for Lucy because she was under the impression her father was homophobic; however Clay was murdered on the job when Amy was a kid, and so she never got that closure as she grew up. With this, she wonders if she posthumously disappointed him.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: Carrying over from D.E.B.S., the titular academy and agency were less than enthused about Amy's affair with Lucy. While ostensibly it's about the scandal of their top agent dating a wanted criminal, Petrie and Bobby still take pot shots at Amy being a lesbian. In Bobby's case, he also shows a misogynistic streak throughout, outright seeing his girlfriends as accessories. He also causally calls a Lucy a "dyke", when speaking too Amy's mother.
  • Predecessor Villain: The Schaffer family is a rival crime syndicate to Lucy's family — the Reynolds' Crime Syndicate. It was the Schaffer's blood feud with the Reynolds' that led to Lucy's family being wiped out, and it was Lucy's revenge quest against them that shaped her into the criminal mastermind she is. Each of the Schaffer's are long dead at the time of the story, with their patriarch and don being the first man Lucy kills, before killing his sons and daughters over the years.
  • Playing Both Sides: It's implied this was Mattie's intent with Corvae Corporation's deal with the D.E.B.S Agency. Whatever Mattie's agenda is, it doesn't line up with the agency's agenda to set Yobidashi-gawa's dragon loose on a population center. But she does play along with it for her advantage. When Lucy blackmails Mattie with her Soul Jar, Mattie pretty much has to play the Academy into Lucy's hands. Unfortunately, Mattie's authority in Corvae gets circumvented by Vordenberg.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: Carrying over from D.E.B.S., Bobby is a government agent, with an immature Fratbro personality, making him come off as a Jerk Jock. He also tries to pressure Amy into getting back together with him, and tries to kill Lucy out of spite. This story takes it a step further. He views being an agent as living out a hero fantasy, refusing to care about the harm he causes; and views his girlfriends as accessories. When he doesn't get his way, he petulantly lashes out with violence; breaking two of Amy's fingers; assaulting Amy's mother, and killing several people by blowing up a police precinct. When confronted on the latter, Bobby whines they were "enemy combatants" for arresting him at all.
  • Same Character, But Different: In Ginger Snaps, Ginger Fitzgerald was a sullen loner, who cared about Brigitte despite being a toxic influence on her; when she was bitten by a werewolf, her toxic qualities are amplified as she becomes Drunk on the Dark Side. In Freddy vs. Jason, Gibb Smith is an apparently mundane, but more agreeable party girl; having both a social circle of friends, but also a toxic boyfriend whose murder affected her. In this story, "Gibb" is a persona Ginger lived under after surviving her stabbing, implying a witness protection deal of sorts. How much of "Gibb's" persona is Ginger keeping up appearances is unclear.
  • Seen It All: Both Brigitte and the Coven Girls gain this reaction from the zanier elements of the D.E.B.S. Academy, and Silas University. After being a captive of the Academy for years, Brigitte gradually learned not to ask. As for the Coven, being practicing witches themselves, they've learned to just go with the flow.
  • Sex Magic: Much of Sarah and Nancy's sex life revolves around this. They like to experiment with invoking powers through sex, that can allow them to bend the rules of nature, to varying degrees. When they take Brigitte's virginity, their goal was to cure her lycanthropy through such a ritual. While they seemingly fail in curing Brigitte, this results in Nancy being impregnated by Sarah through the latter's brief transfer of Life Energy.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: Compared to how comparatively shy and reserved Sarah was in The Craft, it seems she became this over the years. It turns out both Sarah and Bonnie took up modelling jobs during her time at Silas, and Sarah previously posed nude for an art class. At one point, Sarah opens a bedroom window while undressed and is caught by a passing student from that class; while the student is flustered, Sarah casually waves at her, telling her it's nothing she hasn't seen before. Later, Sarah and Bonnie do some swimsuit modelling, with Brigitte attending the photoshoot; when Sarah notices Brigitte staring, she becomes pretty coy about it.
Sarah: (looks down her body) "Oh, yeah. I'm pretty confident about all of this."
Brigitte: (trying to look away with a blush) "You should be."
  • Sociopathic Soldier: Bobby Matthews is depicted as a mix of "The Jingo" and "The Psychopath", deluding himself that he is a good guy and the D.E.B.S cause is a righteous one. But after a series of humiliations, and rejections from Amy, Bobby becomes more unhinged culminating in him attacking Amy's mother in her own home, and having a police precinct blown up to escape custody — justifying the latter by calling his arresting officers "enemy combatants". There's also a shot of "Broken Soldier", as his downfall began when he accidentally got a hostage and his team killed on his first mission; after repeatedly rejecting any treatment, Bobby gradually lost his conscience over the years.
  • Spared By Adaptation: Twice over. Not only did Ginger Fitzgerald survive her stabbing at the end of Ginger Snaps, but it's implied she went into hiding in some sort of witness protection deal. For years, she lived under the persona of "Gibb Smith" of Freddy vs. Jason; she lived in the town of Springwood for years, until she was impaled at a rave. Where Gibb canonically dies, Ginger was hospitalized but ultimately pulled through before returning to Canada.
  • Surprisingly Normal Backstory: Besides Brigitte, most characters here have some sort of Dark and Troubled Past, or trauma that shaped them — from Lucy losing her family to a Mob War; Amy's father being a cop who was murdered on the job; even Bobby has a troubled history in his early career, having unchecked issues explaining (but not excusing) his behavior. On the other hand, Miss Petrie repeatedly dismisses and belittles Brigitte's trauma by citing her own struggles she overcame...that being attending boarding and military school, and being at the top of her class. Petrie apparently considers having to climb a rope equal to or greater than Brigitte's trauma and losses.

     T-Y

  • Tautological Templar: Unlike the more cynical and two-faced Petrie, Bobby is a more blatant case of this. As an agent, Bobby likes to think of himself as this "heroic" spy, whose actions are always justified, as long as it combats Lucy Diamond. To Bobby, the spy game is just that, and Mr. Phipps wonders if Bobby even sees people as people anymore. When arrested for battery, he gets several officers killed, calling them "enemy combatants" for arresting him in the first place. According to an uncovered psychological profile, Bobby refuses treatment because that would mean acknowledging he did anything wrong.
  • Time Skip: The story opens with a prologue in March and April of 2001, immediately after the events of Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed. The main story begins three years later, in May of 2004, immediately following the events of D.E.B.S..
  • Toxic Friend Influence: Inverted. Carrying over from D.E.B.S., the "official" story by the Academy is that Lucy and Amy's relationship is the result of Lucy abducting and brainwashing Amy, making her into a Sex Slave. Ironically, Amy's friends and the Academy's attempts to "fix" Amy cause her more harm than good, and her friends eventually get a Heel Realization. While Max and Dominique try to better themselves for Amy's sake, Petrie has bugs placed in them to monitor them, coercing them into going along with the Academy's plans. On the other end, Bobby tries reaching out to Amy about his "concerns" about Lucy's, but they turn out to be rather hollow; Bobby himself tries love bombing and manipulating Amy, but when she won't budge, be "accidentally" breaks two of her fingers while grabbing her hand.
  • Trauma Button:
    • Brigitte has a more mild one, but her insistence that her sister is dead is a sign of this. Following the events of Ginger Snaps, Ginger's body apparently disappeared, which got her listed as missing. Brigitte doesn't want to entertain the idea that Ginger's alive, as it would mean that everything she went through after running away from home meant nothing. As it turns out, Ginger has survived the stabbing, and has been living under a different identity for years.
    • Amy has a severe one regarding her parents. Her father Clay, who she has a lot of unresolved baggage with, was a cop murdered on the job by being beaten with a hammer. When Bobby pays Amy's mother Liane a visit, he ultimately batters her with a hammer to the point of hospitalizing her. This is meant as a psychological attack on Amy, whose rendered near catatonic after seeing the pictures Bobby sent her, and quickly goes into a real dark place plotting out revenge.
  • Turn of the Millennium: This fic is mainly set in May of 2004, while having a prologue set in early 2001. This is meant to be the same year D.E.B.S. and Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed came out, and serves as an Immediate Sequel to the former. The prologue also picks up immediately after the latter.
  • Unreliable Narrator:
    • During Brigitte's time at the D.E.B.S Academy, she learns that the Academy tends to bend the truth to push their ideal narrative, especially when it comes to Lucy. Even with Lucy's history, a lot of her reputation is based on false or exaggerated accounts by the Academy, making her out to be worse than actually was. When Brigitte hears Lucy and Amy's story — of how Lucy abducted and brainwashed Amy — Brigitte immediately doesn't buy it by virtue of it being the Academy's "official" story. The Academy even goes as a far as having their agents killed to pass Lucy off as a Hero Killer, and plotting a terrorist attack to frame Lucy for.
    • When Brigitte meets Baron Vordenberg, he passes himself off as a grandfatherly Reasonable Authority Figure. He tells her the "true" story of his encounter with the Odo Island Dragon, describing how it attacked a village of a friend he was visiting; and how said friend and his family willingly sacrificed themselves so that Vordenberg could escape, as the dragon destroyed the village and island. Vordenberg's storytelling is juxtaposed with objective flashbacks, revealing Vordenberg unwittingly lured the dragon to the village with an idol of Hastur "calling" the beast, and fled to save his own skin. Not only that, Vordenberg ended up killing said friend and his wife, before leaving their infant grandson to die as the dragon destroyed the village.
  • Vengeance Feels Empty: According to Lucy and Nancy. After Lucy finished off the last of the Schaffer's, she didn't feel much satisfaction as her gap left behind by her family was still empty. Not helping is that she was dealing with a toxic relationship at the time. In Nancy's case, she admits to feeling no guilt about killing her abusive stepfather, but she didn't feel any better until she was sure her mother was okay. Both use these experiences to try to talk down a vengeful Amy after her mother's assault.
  • Villain of Another Story:
    • The Schaeffer crime family is this in Lucy's backstory, a rival syndicate that killed off Lucy's father, brothers and mother. Lucy's criminal exploits were part of a revenge quest against Francis Schaeffer and his sons and daughters, starting off by killing Francis at her fathers grave. They're long dead at the time of the story.
    • With "Gibb Smith" being included here, this implies that Freddy vs. Jason occured in this timeline, and the titular killers are made this. However, neither Freddy or Jason are mentioned by name, only that "Gibb" — in truth, Ginger Fitzgerald in a protection program — survived a second stabbing in Springwood before returning to Canada.
    • During an excavation of the D.E.B.S Silas Campus, the agents soon come across and awaken Count Karnstein, one of the main antagonists of  Love's Sacrifices. It's shown to that the Count and Vordenberg have worked together in the past for an unknown agenda; and that the Count is responsible for the downfall of the Silas' D.E.B.S, slaughtering the students as a blood sacrifice to Hastur and Ithaqua.
  • When She Smiles: In Ginger Snaps, Brigitte almost perpetually has a somber expression on her face, only cracking a smile six times in the first two movies — one of which was faked. As part of her Heal the Cutie arc here, Brigitte finds herself starting to smile more and more, especially as she connects with Sarah and Nancy, and even the D.E.B.S.
  • Windmill Crusader: The D.E.B.S cause against Lucy Diamond ultimately boils down to this. While Lucy was a powerful and effective criminal mastermind, it turns out her more extreme crimes were either exaggerated or fabricated to make her out to be a bigger menace than she actually is. However, it's implied the main reason they're fixated on her is because she pulled an information heist on them during her blood feud with the Schaffer's. Petrie even goes as far as letting agents die, if not having them killed, to sell Lucy as a Hero Killer. In Bobby's case, his actual crusade against Lucy is mostly about how she "stole" his girlfriend, with her alleged crimes being mere excuses. Director Petrie goes as far as plotting a series of attacks on different cities to frame Lucy as a threat.
  • You Look Familiar:
    • It is mentioned that Scream is canon to this story's timeline, and with both characters portrayed by Neve Campbell, there is a Running Gag that Bonnie's resemblance to Sidney Prescott being brought up a lot. It happens so often that Bonnie has to clarify she's not Sidney Prescott whenever she introduces herself.
    • Besides playing Ginger Fitzgerald, Katharine Isabelle also played the character Gibb Smith in Freddy vs. Jason — Gibb briefly appears in seemingly unrelated segments involving Carmilla. While Gibb and Ginger's obvious resemblance is brought up, it is later revealed that Gibb is Ginger; having survived her stabbing and gone into some sort of Witness Protection deal, Ginger apparently took "Gibb" as an alias and persona to live under.
