Fanfic / Mass Effect: Bionicle Revolution

Go To

Mass Effect: Bionicle Revolution is a crossover between BIONICLE and Mass Effect where, in the Kingdom Alternate Universe, the Kingdom managed to successfully immigrate to another planet, only to then run into the Citadel races and completely upend the galaxy, throwing a major wrench in the plans of the Reapers in the process.

Tropes:

  • Fantastic Racism: Due to the geth causing rampant mistrust of AI, the Citadel races are immediately fearful of the biomechanical inhabitants of the Kingdom when they first meet, with some even advocating to try and destroy them immediately.
  • I Am Not Left-Handed: The Kingdom is careful to keep their full capabilities under wraps when dealing with aliens. Most notably, they're careful not to breathe so much of a word about the Vahi, Ignika, or their Energized Protodermis stores.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Jack Harper, suspicious of the Collectors' intentions behind their uplift of humanity (least of all because leaders who had been hostile to their offer suddenly changed their mind after a single meeting) still forms Cerberus with the same goal of protecting humanity. And just for good measure Anderson is revealed to be working with them too.
  • Missed Him by That Much: When Tela Vasir contacts the Shadow Broker to sell out the Toa Mahri, Triglax had just taken out the Yahg broker only minutes before, and sends a team to take her into custody instead.
  • Outside-Context Problem:
    • The Toa's ability to manipulate elements goes beyond anything any of the Citadel races thought possible. Even Sovereign is brought down by a group of Toa working together.
    • Botar's ability to teleport himself and whoever he wants into seemingly any location without having to know its precise coordinates is cause for concern for some of the Citadel races. Brutaka's ability to generate portals across thousands of light-years only increases that concern further. The turians are wary at the idea of going to war with the Kingdom for basically Botar alone.
  • Pragmatic Hero: The Kingdom leadership's plans to establish connections in the Mass Effect universe include making deals with Aria and the geth or having a Dark Hunter Kill and Replace one of the Shadow Broker's operatives.
  • Reformed, but Not Tamed: The best way to describe the morally ambiguous members of the Kingdom's leadership. The Shadowed One in particular notes that he's actually grown genuinely fond of the Matoran over the millennia. He'd still kill the others on the Council without remorse, sure, but only if the Kingdom's survival depended on it.
  • Schizo Tech: Despite their technology being far beyond anything that the Citadel races have seen in a number of areas, the inhabitants of the Kingdom didn't have anything like normal computers before first contact as just one example of this, consequently making it much harder for other races to get a read on them.
  • Sufficiently Advanced Technology: The Kingdom's technologies and the abilities of many of its inhabitants, despite many of them having seemingly primitive exteriors, are so far beyond what the Citadel races are capable of that they can't begin to figure out how to reverse-engineer them, and one scientist notes that the Kanoka discs alone seem to defy every law of nature that they know.
  • Telepathy: A Kanohii Suletu is a handy thing to have when processing visitors to the Kingdom, since the wearer can discover spies from the likes of the STG and Shadow Broker.
  • Technology Uplift: Recognizing the technological advantage the Kingdom possesses to disrupt the Reaper's cycle, the Collectors are dispatched to Earth, who hadn't even discovered the Prothean cache on Mars yet, let alone the Charon relay, to uplift them as a catspaw against the Kingdom.
  • Time Skip: The story takes place millennia after the last time that we saw the Kingdom universe in canon, with them having managed to travel to another star system after the expanded Mata Nui island started to become unstable.
  • Underestimating Badassery:
