Mad World is an Osmosis Jones story written by cosmothediclonius. The story happens after the movie's events and Ozzy, Leah and Drix are transferred into a new body named Catherine where Pills are viewed as inferior beings. The story resolves around the new allies they make, Drix dealing with his past as a Pill and the rising of a new enemy.The story is Darker and Edgier than the original show and Character Development, Hidden Depths and redemption arcs make it worth it.
Not to be confused with Invader Zim crossover story of the same name nor the video game with a guy with a chainsaw arm.
Mad World provides examples of:
- Abusive Parent: Comtrex was a kind of fatherly figure for others Pills until Eve dies. The way he asks Gabriel to redeem himself for her death before killing him definitely has shades of it.
- Adaptational Angst Upgrade: This fanfic portrays Drix who as mentally unstable and dealing with some very bad personal demons.Namely, his guilt and the loss of many of his Pill friends that had been killed in the laboratory where Drix was made.
- Adaptational Sexuality: Drix's preferences were left ambiguous in the original show. Here he is gay and later marries Peerce
- An Ice Person: Drix has the power of ice once he drinks his own capsule.
- All Love Is Unrequited: Comtrex toward Drix and Scott toward Advil.
- Anti-Villain: It is the case for Comtrex who is both a Well-Intentioned Extremist and a Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds. At the beginning he only wished for Pills's happiness but the death of his lover Eve pushed him off the edge, slowly losing his mind.
- Big Brother Instinct: Ozzy for Drix, Percy and Scott for each other. It was implied Eve cared for Gabriel as a brother to the point of being willing to take the bullet for him.
- Dark and Troubled Past: Almost everyone has one but special mention to Comtrex, Drix and Tylenol and Aleve.
- Demoted to Extra: Ozzy isn't the main character this time, despite he has a very supporting role toward Drix. Same
- Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Comtrex's madness is caused by the loss of his lover Eve. It is implied that he still cares for his Pills but went too mad to realize it. Averted and played straight when it comes to Drix: his Villainous Crush for him seems to exist because Drix is a Drixenol Pill just like Eve was and it may be a case of Replacement Goldfish but when he dies, he told Drix he developed genuine feelings for him.
- You Should Have Died Instead: Comtrex said this to Gabriel, because Eve took the bullet for him. Later he realizes it wasn't.
- Incompatible Orientation: Scott is in love with Advil but this latter doesn't share it due to this and because he is with Dayquil.
- The Lost Lenore: Eve, for Comtrex.
- Mind Rape: It is Dayquil's power. She can attack her enemies by giving them horrible visions, turning them mad.
- Outliving One's Offspring: Aurora, Tylenol's and Aleve's daughter, died before the beginning of the story.
- Playing with Fire: Peerce has the power of fire.
- Replacement Goldfish: Drix is apparently this for Eve.
- Sequential Artist: Judith is a mangaka.
- Single-Target Sexuality: Comtrex never loved anyone but Eve. Averted due to his Anguished Declaration of Love for Drix
- Taking the Bullet: Eve did this to protect Gabriel.
- Yaoi Fangirl: Judith loves yaoi. She even drew one about Peerce and Drix.
