Fanfic / Hereafter

Go To

Gold Morning was supposed to be the end. The capstone of a short, frenetic career. Taylor Hebert’s fight was supposed to be over. But the end of one story is often the beginning of another, and when she’s offered the chance to take part in a mission whose scale and scope feel so very familiar, there’s only one answer she could give.

Hereafter is a Worm & Fate/Grand Order crossover Fanfic written by James D. Fawkes, where Taylor becomes Chaldea's A-Team member after Contessa brings her to Chaldea's world, and eventually mentor to Ritsuka and Rika (Gudako) Fujimaru.

  • Boss Rush: Like in canon Septem ends with facing Romulus, Flauros, and Altera in rapid succession.
  • The Conscience: Arash often becomes this to Taylor.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: The Fujimaru siblings are training against Taylor as Skitter to emulate what fighting against a proper magus and/or proper Caster Servants looks like. While they manage to find her, they fail to properly beat her, and she had been easy on them.
  • Emergency Transformation: Genetic modification variant. Using crabs gathered by Taylor's ability, Da Vinci successfully creates a new body for Olga's soul to inhabit.
  • Experienced Protagonist: This is Post-Golden Morning Taylor. She's much more experienced than the Fujimaru siblings, and it often shows.
  • Familiar: Taylor has a pair of Ravens named Huginn and Muninn.
  • Historical Gender Flip: Taylor is slowly growing numb to it, no matter how completely ridiculous it becomes.
  • Honor Before Reason: Aífe faces off against Caesar & Tiberius while under a debuff Noble Phantasm rather than accept help from EMIYA. He interferes twice to protect her.
  • Knight of Cerebus: The end of Septem has Altera killing off Spartacus, Boudica, Jing Ke, and the entire city of the United Empire with the fallout shown in full.
  • Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Rika is the foolish one, while Ritsuka is the responsible one.
  • Foreshadowing: Several OC Servants are mentioned before they actually appear in the Singularity.
    • Septem-Lucius Tiberius, Marcus Cassius Scaeva
    • Okeanos-The Argonauts
  • The Mole: Hektor is this for Jason's crew after older Medea managed to nick him with Rule Breaker.
  • Mysterious Past: Nobody but Olga and Romani knows about Taylor's true past.
    • EMIYA also has one, but he keeps letting facts slip.
  • Mythology Gag: Archer EMIYA makes several to events from Fate/Stay Night.
    • Archer EMIYA once again faces off against Berserker Heracles and asks if it's okay to kick his ass while holding him off. Regrettably it ends the same way with him dying after killing Berserker several times.
  • The Nicknamer: Rika, from "Super Action Mom" for Aífe to "Hot Pops" for El-Meloi II.
  • Not Quite Dead: Heracles embodies this due to God Hand, but in the same singularity Caenis barely survives the first attacks from Arash that broke her protection and fell in the water before coming bac to stab Hektor in the back.
  • Only Sane Man: Rika firmly believes she's that, lamenting everybody else is far too chill with the constant Historical Gender Flip, the world potentially ending and the Servants' quirkiness. Yes, she includes her brother into that lot.
  • Pest Controller: While it took her a while, Taylor ends up getting her Parahuman power back, allowing her to use it by the Orleans Singularity.
  • Rasputinian Death: Heracles is put through one in Okeanos. Captain Morgan kills him once with a cannon barrage, Aife uses Toranchless, Atlanta shoots through his eye while regenerating, Jalter impales & roasts him with her Noble Phantasm, Aife uses a rune enhanced Gae Bolg to destroy his heart, Siegfried uses Balmung to reduce his body to a pair of legs, Artemis shoots him in the chest with her Noble Phantasm, Hektor stabs him in the back with his Noble Phantasm, and finally Jalter impales him through the throat while dropping from above. And this is all after EMIYA used Unlimited Blade Works to leave him impaled with enough weapons to kill him at least 3 times.
  • Spotting the Thread: Several Servants notice facts about Taylor that hint at her past & the nature of her abilities such as Waver noticing that she calls her bug controlling a power instead of magecraft.
    • Aífe figures out EMIYA has a Reality Marble based on him not being from the Age of the Gods and there not being many other possibilities.
    • Mashu mentioning that she wasn't taught Magecraft due to not having much use for it and being with Chaldea her whole life clues Taylor in that Mashu is dying.
  • The Glorious War of Sisterly Rivalry: Scáthach and Aífe.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Okeanos shows Caenis is this compared to Aífe who keeps her trapped with Ath nGabla for 6 hours and would have killed her several times if it wasn't for Poseidon's Divine Protection.
