Fanfic / Happy Endings? (Disney)

Go To

Happy Endings? is a fanfiction created on FanFiction.net by a user named vrsvla. It is based on the Disney Animated Canon with elements of the fairy tales they were based on. The story begins with Chernabog being freed by Mela Grimmhilde — otherwise known as the Evil Queen — who convinces him to help her defeat an alleged common enemy of theirs; Snow White. Chapters also follow the perspectives of various other characters.

Vanished from the internet. Please post a link if found.

Happy Endings? provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Heroism:
    • Vanessa is Snow White's royal mage. The sea witch persona is part of a split personality.
    • Hades of all people is actually quite reasonable and is implied to be under the control of the Master.
  • Adaptational Villainy:
    • Tin Kerbell and the other faeries want to harness Chernabog's powers in order to destroy the Red and White Kingdoms and reclaim Terra Mirabilos as their own.
    • Pan is a lot more sinister than his movie counterparts, although this may be a reference to the original story.
    • While Poseidon is rather immoral in Greek mythology, he is downright evil in Volume 2, calling himself "The Master" and basically orchestrating a plot to free his seriously-implied-to-be-evil bride.
  • Age Lift: Smee is much younger than usually portrayed in other media.
  • Another Dimension: There are multiple worlds, including Terra Mater, Terra Mirabilos, Terra Numquam and Terra Morte.
  • Alliterative Name: Madelyn Milliner and Kirstin Kerbell. Also the Queen of Hearts's maiden name Cardia Carrest.
  • Ambiguously Brown: Märchen Hase is only mentioned to have dark skin; his heritage is unclear.
  • Back from the Dead: Rapunzel's tears have the ability to resurrect Flynn.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Readers theorized that "The Master" was Hades due to the presence of blue flames. Turns out that "The Master" is actually controlling Hades, and Hades's blue flames are a consequence of being possessed.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Snow White warns the Queen of Hearts that if it is a war she wants, it is a war she will get.
  • Bewitched Amphibians: Mela gets turned into a frog by Facilier.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Chernabog was once a powerful demon of dark magic. Now he's trapped in the feeble body of a teenage boy.
  • Casting a Shadow:
    • Facilier has the ability to create shadow replicas of himself
    • Pan appears to be a shadowy creature, due to dabbling in dark magic, similar to Chernabog.
  • Composite Character:
  • Crystal Ball: Vanessa uses one to see what is happening in Terra Mirabilos.
  • Decomposite Character:
    • Kind of. Vanessa and Ursula are the same body, but are implied to be split personality.
    • In the book Peter Pan in Scarlet, Captain Hook and Ravello are the same person. In Volume 2, they are completely separate people.
  • Everybody Hates Hades: Actually the name of Hades's chapter in Volume 2. Averted, as Hades is much more reasonable and nicer in this portrayal, although he seems to be working for "the Master".
  • Evil Costume Switch: Vanessa's white clothes are turned black when she becomes Ursula. Justified, because of the spilled ink.
  • Faceā€“Heel Turn: Odobenus Timmerman betrays his King and soldiers, slaying Mordekai and his own men.
  • Freak Lab Accident: Vanessa creates a replica of the Jekyll potion and drinks it, becoming Ursula.
  • Gender Flip: Madelyn and Patricia are both females, despite their counterparts in the book being males.
  • God Save Us from the Queen!: Cardia, the Queen of Hearts, is possibly the most sadistic person in Terra Mirabilos. Even when she knows she is in the wrong, she will order someone's execution.
  • Gold Digger: Anita only wanted to marry Roger to become Queen.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: "The Master" is shaping up to be one of these - his followers, Lady Tremaine and Facilier are behind a lot of the events in the Red Kingdom, with their master's only appearance being in the form of blue flames and a detached voice. "The Master" even appears to be controlling Hades, of all people.
  • Hidden Villain: Lady Tremaine's mysterious master is not identified or seen, only known by the blue flames that accompany its prescence.
  • Killed Off for Real:
    • Ace Spade, Mordekai Scarlet, Flotsam and Jetsam Moray, Lady Tremaine and Anita Tremaine.
    • Volume 2 kills off Lefou, Gaston, Laocoön, Kirstin, Silver-Mist, Terence, Rose, Facilier, Timmerman and Snow.
  • Kraken and Leviathan: The Jolly Roger is attacked and torn apart by a kraken.
  • Literally Shattered Lives: When Anita is stabbed with the shard of magic mirror, her body turns into ice before shattering into a million pieces.
  • Magic Mirror: Mela once owned a magic mirror imbued with dark magic and implied to have Chernabog's powers in it and tries to use a shard of the mirror to kill Facilier. Apparently, people who stare too long into the mirror would go insane.
  • Master of Illusion: Mela specializes in these, casting glamour spells on Anita and herself.
  • Meaningful Name/Punny Name: Cardia's maiden name Cardia Carrest is a pun on cardiac arrest, which is similar to a heart attack (her name Cardia may also reference playing cards). Also, the name Mela is Italian for apple. For Odobenus Timmerman's name meaning, see Mythology Gag below.
  • Mythology Gag:
  • Offing the Offspring: Queen Cardia has absolutely no problem with executing his son Mordekai.
  • Off with His Head!: As per tradition, the Queen of Hearts is fond of these.
  • Portal Door: Wells of Melassa serve as portals from one dimension to another.
  • Professional Killer: Jasper Dunba is a hitman hired by Ella to kill Lady Tremaine.
  • Race Lift: Tin Kerbell is black, as opposed to Tinker Bell usually being portrayed as white.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Mela's true form is that of an old hag, but she appears to be a young and beautiful woman through dark magic.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Roger leads his own expedition to Avalon.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Chernabog was imprisoned inside Bald Mountain for 1,000 years before his essence is trapped inside the body of a teenage boy.
  • Technicolor Fire:
    • When Lady Tremaine contacts her master, the flames in the fireplace turn blue.
    • This also happens in Avalon, where Charles and Layton's campfire turns blue when a shadowy monster appears.
  • Tempting Fate: Cardia asks why someone who will be sailing a ship called the Jolly Roger alongside someone under the alias Smee would need a collection of hooks.
  • The Fair Folk: The faeries of Terra Numquam planned on causing mass genocide with dark magic.
  • The Good King: Mordekai and Phillip were both these.
  • Time Stands Still: Time has apparently stopped in Terra Mirabilos, meaning that clocks do not tick and people don't age.
  • Too Dumb to Live: The faeries honestly thought that they could harness the power of Chernabog, and bend him to their will? This happens again when they try to control Maleficent, who ends up killing them all.
  • Villain Protagonist: Chernabog/Charles and Mela are the two main characters — they are both icons of pure evil, and are currently plotting to kill Snow White.
