"Sunny Suzuki hated the violin."

Faraway Killers by lugei is a mystery thriller published in 2023 taking place after the main plot of OMORI. As such, the work contains full game spoilers.

Rather than feel guilt at the death of his sister, Sunny finds that he enjoys getting away with murder. With the help of his friend Basil, they soon become the feared killers of Faraway Town, as their old friends try to hunt them down.

Faraway Killers contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Villainy: This version of Sunny never becomes consumed by guilt over his Accidental Murder of Mari, instead getting a rush from the fact that he got away with it, prompting him to become an unrepentant Serial Killer. Same goes for Basil.

  • Alcoholic Parent: Subverted. Aubrey’s mom seemingly does nothing but drink, but she is still able to give her daughter stitches when Aubrey gets stabbed.

  • Bad People Abuse Animals: After his cat Mewo outs Sunny to his father, Sunny butchers it and hides it in the woods.

  • Berserk Button: Sunny flips out when Cris blames themselves for the death of one of his victims, rather than accrediting the serial killer. He turns them into paste.

  • Creepy Souvenir: Basil wears the glasses of his dead friend, Mincy, openly.

  • Daddy Had a Good Reason for Abandoning You: Turns out, sororicide is a good reason for dad to pack his bags and walk away from the house the perp lives in.

  • Evil Gloating: Downplayed. Sunny and Basil often make jabs alluding to their role as the killers, a which is ignored by everyone but Henry.
    • Speaking of which, Henry and the killers frequently interact at hangouts to decipher each others plans, which are loaded with threats from both sides.

  • Guilt-Ridden Accomplice: Basil does drugs and buries his victims out of regret. Subverted in that he continues following Sunny anyway.

  • High on Homicide: Sunny liked killing his sister so much that he decided he’d try it out on other people. He drags Basil down to his level.

  • Insidious Rumor Mill: Aubrey, a known delinquent, takes the brunt of accusations for being the killer, while the killers themselves act timid.

  • It Was Here, I Swear!: Henry finds proof that points to Sunny being a killer, but upon returning to the scene to accuse him, the evidence is already long gone.

  • Kid Detective: Zigzagged. Kel dresses up as Sherlock Holmes, but only makes intermittent progress on the case. That is, until he stumbles across the grave of Kim and Mincy. Then, after his brother joins the case, Kel refuses to acknowledge that his friends could be killers, and his investigation stagnates.

  • Mirror Reveal: While scouring Blackspace for keys, Omori enters a room with shards of glass he must build with to obtain his next key. Upon completing the mirror, he finds himself disfigured beyond belief, with blood red eye sockets and a zombified appearance.

  • Playing the Victim Card: Prior to their killings becoming known, Sunny and Basil hold a pity party with the stabbing of Sunny’s eye, murder of Sunny’s mom, and loss of Basil’s grandma to natural causes. It works.

  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Sunny gets one of these after being stabbed by Basil.
    • To a lesser degree, Basil’s own glasses come across as this, which he uses to taunt Vance before killing him.

  • Serial Killer: Sunny and Basil become serial killers over the course of the story, named the Faraway Killer by the townsfolk.

  • Sleep Deprivation: Exploited. Sunny and Basil take advantage of their pursuer’s poor sleep habits to gain an edge against Henry, even managing to drug the pursuer.

  • Slipping a Mickey: Basil does this to distract Hero from foiling their plots, using medication.

  • String Theory: Kel uses one of these.

  • Wham Episode: At the end of act III, Hero discovers that his girlfriend’s suicide was faked by her own brother. He makes it his goal to make Sunny pay from then on.
