"I am Kiran Pathfinder, the Summoner of the World of Zenith in service for the Kingdom of Askr, and the Marth that you have seen me summoned earlier is not an Emblem, but a Hero."

Emblems and Heroes is a Fire Emblem Intra-Franchise Crossover fanfic between Fire Emblem Heroes and Fire Emblem Engage.

This fanfic takes place after Book VI and at the start of Book VII. Upon seemingly being erased by Gullveig, Kiran Pathfinder is spirited away from Zenith to Elyos. Since Kiran is stranded in Elyos for the time being, he must assist Alear in her quest to save Elyos and eventually Zenith from the malevolent forces that threaten to destroy both worlds, using both the power of the 12 Emblems and the Breidablik's ability to summon Heroes.

The presence of Kiran Pathfinder in Elyos is the spark that changes the fate of not only Elyos, but of Zenith as well.

Emblems And Heroes can be read here. The story can also be read in Archive of Our Own, Spacebattles Forums, and Sufficient Velocity Forums

Tropes found in Emblems And Heroes:

  • Adaptational Badass: Kiran Pathfinder is this, compared to the canon version of Kiran in Heroes. In this fanfic, Kiran is a Frontline General who can put up a fight when pushed, but he is still The Strategist, like his canon version.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: In canon, Veyle is the 11th-Hour Ranger. As a result of Point of Divergence mentioned below, Veyle is summoned as a Hero after being defeated in her Mythic Hero Battle and joins with Alear and Kiran's group.
  • Adaptational Secrecy Downgrade: Canonically, Alear doesn't learn of their Secret Legacy until the end of the game, but in A Lost Vanir Goddess in Solm!, due to Lumera and Veyle being summoned as Heroes, both Male and Female Alear learn of their origins much earlier than canon.
  • Army of The Ages: Just like in canon, Kiran has summoned and commanded countless Heroes from different worlds, with Elyos being the most recent addition to the list.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: The current main villain is Fell Dragon Sombron, with Ebony and her Curse Directive being the secondary villains.
  • Breather Episode: The Interlude chapters usually provide such examples.
  • By the Power of Grayskull!: It wouldn't be a Fire Emblem Engage fanfic without this. Notably, Kiran also indulges on this whenever he summons a Hero.
  • Chekhov's Gun: In Heroes vs the Dark Emblem, Veyle picks up a black jewel on the ground which Ebony discarded due to it being "defective". In Revelations Amid Retreat!, the black jewel absorbed Veyle's Split Personality as she was shot by Kiran's Breidablik using a Golden Summon Orb as its ammunition, with the black jewel reforming into Evil Veyle in the process.
  • Cool Gate: The Outrealm Gates are an example, with the Elyos Outrealm Gate being the most prominent example.
  • Crossover-Exclusive Villain: Ebony, the Curse Directive's Shadow Director, is exclusive to this fanfic.
  • Deal with the Devil: In The Stinger of Interlude - Elyos-Zenith Juxtaposition, Ginnungagap offers Ebony a deal once her Curse Directive forces settled down in the border between the Kingdoms of Nifl and Muspell.
  • Gondor Calls for Aid: In a nutshell, this is what Kiran's ability to summon Heroes entails.
  • Ironic Echo: In The Clash of Three Different Factions and Radiant Heroes of the Oasis, both Ebony and Ivy say the very same words to each other, but in different situations and in different contexts. note
When Ivy is confronted Ebony for the first time in battle...
Ebony: You have the misfortune of meeting me on this battlefield.
[Later on, when Ivy was summoned as a Hero and delivers a Finishing Move to Ebony...]
Ivy: Ebony, you have the misfortune of meeting me on this battlefield.
  • Join or Die: In Revelations Amid Retreat!, Fell Dragon Sombron gives an ultimatum to Kiran to join his forces or perish with Alear. Kiran promptly goes Screw Your Ultimatum! as a result.
  • Literal Split Personality: In Revelations Amid Retreat!, Evil Veyle came to be as the black jewel that Veyle picked up a few chapters before absorbs the artificial personality within her subconscious, becoming a separate entity from the original Veyle in the process.
  • Magically-Binding Contract: Kiran uses the Breidablik to summon Heroes and places them under a binding contract with him.
  • Mêlée à Trois: The Clash of Three Different Factions features a three-way clash between Alear and Kiran's group, Ivy's Elusian/Corrupted forces, and Ebony's Curse Directive.
  • Outside-Context Problem: Kiran, along with the Breidablik's ability to summon Heroes is completely different from the Emblem Rings of Elyos.
  • Point of Divergence: There are minor alterations to the canon source material, but one of the the biggest divergences is Alear and Kiran taking Veyle with them to Somniel, and the black jewel that Veyle picked up a few chapters earlier absorbed Veyle's Split Personality, reforming into a darker copy of Veyle, aka, Evil Veyle.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: Revelations Amid Retreat! ends with Sombron obtaining 6 of the Emblem Rings that Alear and Kiran have gathered, but this comes at the cost of not only with the Ring of the Lady of the Plains and the Ring of the Princess Exalt being stolen and purified by Alear, but also with Alear and Kiran taking the real Veyle with them in their retreat.
  • The Remnant: The Curse Directive was reduced to this after Letizia's death. When Ebony took over as the Shadow Director, the Curse Directive became an independent organization that opposes both the Kingdom of Askr and the Emblian Empire.
  • The Stinger: With a few exceptions, most chapters end with one or two extra scenes.
  • Shout-Out: Several.
Ebony (to Kiran): I will not be stopped. Not by you, or your so-called Heroes, or anyone! I will see you dead, even if it means destroying the Nine Realms around me!
  • Spirit Advisor: Baldraz, an entity that Kiran met in the void between space-time and later inhabiting the Breidablik, acts as this to Kiran.
  • Stations of the Canon: This fanfic mostly follows the canon plot, but with some differences scattered in-between.
  • Supporting Protagonist: While in Elyos, Kiran is this to Alear, but this gets flipped when Alear accompanies Kiran in Zenith.
  • Tactical Withdrawal: Revelations Amid Retreat! features one, as Kiran and Alear's group withdraws from Destinea Cathedral.
  • Teleport Gun: The Breidablik's secondary function is to be able to teleport to most locations that Kiran visited.
  • Trial by Combat: This is what Hero Battles entail to. Prevailing in a Hero Battle allows Kiran to summon certain people as Heroes, such as Lumera and Veyle.
