Edna's Intervention
is a one-shot crossover fanfic between My Hero Academia and The Incredibles.
Near the end of the school year, U.A. hires a consultant to inspect and critique the students' hero costumes to ensure that they are aesthetically pleasing and safe for use.
Who is the consultant you may ask?
EDNA MODE.
Edna's Intervention provides examples of:
- Adaptational Modesty: The company that made Hagakure's costume used the material Edna created so that it disappears along with her (much like Violet's costume), while she was an Invisible Streaker in the main series.
- Badass Cape: NO CAPES!!
- Edna modified All Might's costumes, so now they never have a cape.
- Edna gives Aoyama the same "No Capes" talk she gave Mr. Incredible and tells him to get rid of the cape of his costume. When he is reluctant to give up the cape because of how it fits his 'chivalrous prince' aesthetic, Izuku gives him the idea to use a breakaway cape that's easy to take off as a compromise.
- Chest Insignia: Discussed. Kaminari and Jiro say Edna advised both of them to add some kind of defining logo to their costumes if they were going to stick with the "casual" look.
- Establishing Character Moment: Edna is introduced to the class having an(other) argument with Midnight over the overly sexualized nature of her costume, proving she doesn't mince words with criticism and her leanings to more practical superhero costumes.
- Mr. Exposition: Izuku, fanboy and knowledge reserve of all things Pro Hero, geeks out and tells his fellow students about Edna's illustrious career as a Pro Hero fashion designer.
- Mythology Gag: Edna derides Aizawa's hero outfit as a "hobo suit", much like she did with Mr. Incredible's classic suit.
- Rummage Sale Reject: One of Edna's criticisms of Aoyama's costume is that some of the elements clash with each other since he added anything he thought "sparkled" together, such as his Cool Shades clashing with his Knight in Shining Armor look.
- Scarf of Asskicking: One of Edna's suggestions to Mineta about his costume is to replace the impractical cape with a small scarf to keep the color contrast.
- Stripperiffic: Discussed. Edna criticizes the S&M design of Midnight's costume, and her meeting with Momo is about striking a balance between allowing her to use her Quirk without too much clothing damage (which requires her to show skin) and not looking like a "swimsuit model", as Edna puts it.
- Utility Belt: Edna suggests a belt to replace Mineta's "diaper", as she puts it, to better take advantage of his small size by reducing his profile.
- WTH, Costuming Department?: Edna is withering about various poor costume choices in 1A, like Mineta's bizarre bowl/diaper.
