Go To

Danganronpa School Mode: Storage Room of Love is a tale in which during their time trapped in Hope's Peak, the cast of Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc find a room in which they will be put in a dream-like state, and perceives the protagonist as their "ideal partner". Inspired by Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony's Love Suite events, the original roster is given their own scenarios, with Makoto Naegi as the main character.

Has a sequel named Danganronpa 2 Island Mode: Love Cabin, featuring an equivalent scenario for the Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair cast, with Hajime Hinata as the main character.

Storage Room of Love examples of:

  • The Ace: In Toko's fantasy, Makoto borders on being a straight-up Parody Sue. Makoto even lampshades the absurdity that she started out claiming he was her next door neighbor and then started adding all these additional qualities that directly contradict that claim.
  • Ambiguously Bi: Like with the original Love Motel scenes; Makoto's gender doesn't appear to be a dealbreaker for most of the male students in their fantasies (not even the famously woman-liking Hifumi), with Leon as the only exception.
  • Art Initiates Life: Hifumi's fantasy, in which Makoto is a drawing he wished was real, and actually became real.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Kyoko, of course. Despite Makoto's best efforts, she nearly manages to break out of her own fantasy, only relenting when he convinces her not to pry.
  • Benevolent Boss:
    • Makoto is apparently this in Byakuya's fantasy, which is part of why Byakuya finds him so insufferable.
    • In Kiyotaka's fantasy, Makoto is apparently his assistant, and Kiyotaka, fittingly enough, is this for him.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Monokuma claims to have gotten the idea for the Storage Room of Love after playing through the Love Suite New Dangan Ronpa V3, not that anyone else knows what he's talking about.
  • Childhood Friends: Leon and Makoto are this in Leon's fantasy.
  • The Conscience: Mondo's fantasy has Makoto acting as this for him, Mondo even describing him as "the little angel on his shoulder".
  • The Cuckoolander Was Right: When Makoto can't explain what he saw in the Storage Room of Love out of sheer embarrassment, Yasuhiro, of all people, is the one who manages to guess what his stammering means.
  • Did They or Didn't They?: Like in V3, some of the scenarios more heavily imply than others that Makoto ended up going pretty far with certain characters. How far he got was left ambiguous.
  • Florence Nightingale Effect: Sakura's fantasy is one where she's taking care of her real-life boyfriend as he tries to recover from his terminal disease.
  • Have I Mentioned I Am Heterosexual Today?: Because of rumors in his fantasy about his and Makoto's closeness due to the the fantasy involving the two being childhood friends, Leon does his best to clear this up, both before and after the fantasy ends.
  • High-School Sweethearts: Kyoko's fantasy is this with Makoto, much to his surprise.
  • I Lied: Turns out Monokuma did put cameras in the Storage Room of Love, just not ones that could be seen with the naked eye. He then shows everyone except Makoto the footage of their respective fantasy, and leaves him to deal with the fallout.
  • Innocently Insensitive:
    • The crux of Makoto's problems in Asahina's fantasy. When Makoto tries to get on Hina's good side at the end by suggesting going out for donuts, she accuses him of only seeing her as a Big Eater and starts insisting on the full-body massage again.
    • Played for Drama in Sakura's fantasy. When Makoto hears Sakura mentions his "illness", Makoto tries to play along by suggesting that getting enough rest will help him recover. Sakura gives a sad expression and tells Makoto that, while she admires his "fighting spirit", they both know that rest isn't going to help him so easily.
  • I Take Offense to That Last One: Kiyotaka's reaction to the Storage Room of Love is a long rant of insults at Monokuma, only one of which manages to wound him.
Kiyotaka: There you are you scoundrel! You indecent, rule-defiling, evildoer! You deplorable scourge upon everything orderly and decent! You vile, slime of a phony headmaster!
Monokuma: Who are you calling phony!?
  • Irony: Kiyotaka's fantasy is of him trying to shut down the Storage Room of Love. He's actually aware he's in the room, but is oblivious to the fact that he's currently under its effects.
  • Kimodameshi: The setting of Chihiro's fantasy, where he tries to show his "cool side" to Makoto.
  • Let Us Never Speak of This Again: In the epilogue, Byakuya, Toko, and Leon make it clear they'd prefer to never have to think about the Storage Room of Love ever again.
  • Morality Pet: In Mondo's fantasy, Makoto acts as this for him.
  • Not Brainwashed: Makoto misses the hint, but it's clear to the reader that Mukuro scrounged up enough Monocoins to buy her own Key of Love, thus keeping her mind when Makoto invites "Junko" to the Storage Room of Love.
  • Only Sane Man: Makoto is forced to play the role when in each character's fantasy. He's is fully aware of what's going on and has to play along with the other character's fantasies lest they suffer an extremely embarrassing and awkward situation.
  • Questionable Consent: Much like how Shuichi reacted to Korekiyo's fantasy in canon, Makoto tries to bail from Celestia's fantasy when it becomes clear it involves bondage and the dreamer not taking "no" for an answer. And just like Shuichi, Makoto fails to run away.
  • Sarcastic Confession: A very strange variant. Mukuro takes advantage of the Storage Room of Love to show Makoto her true appearance and tell him her feelings, while keeping him in the dark about her not being under the room's effects.
  • Secret Relationship: In Sayaka Maizono's fantasy, she and Makoto are in a relationship but try to make sure the media doesn't know about it due to her career as an idol.
  • Sequel Hook: The epilogue ends with an introductory chapter for an equivalent in Super Dangan Ronpa 2.
  • Sexy Discretion Shot: Just like in V3, any fantasies that go far enough cut away before the reader gets to see anything explicit. Sayaka, Mukuro, and Kyoko's fantasies end with them successfully seducing Makoto, Asahina's ends with her stripping naked, and Celestia's... involves a collar and leash.
  • Take Our Word for It: In Mondo's fantasy, Makoto's poor choice of words leads Mondo to think he's being threatened. Being a Violently Protective Boyfriend, Mondo starts stating all the things he plans to do to whoever wants to hurt Makoto… things that we don't get to see described, but according to Makoto are both graphic and in some cases, not physiologically possible.
  • Taking Advantage of Generosity: Sayaka admits that she feels guilty for seemingly taking advantage of Makoto's kindness.
  • Thinks Like a Romance Novel: Toko's fantasy (not that one), where she's afraid she'll be left for some other, better girl. Makoto realizes he has to act like something out of her novels to sustain the dream, which the real Toko chews him out for in the epilogue.
  • Worthy Opponent: Byakuya's fantasy is Makoto being a rival businessman who he actually respects.

Love Cabin examples of:

  • Family-Values Villain: Fuyuhiko is even more outraged by the existence of the Love Cabin than Mahiru is.
  • No-Sell: Monokuma manages to make it so that Usami can't interfere with the Love Cabin or anyone who wants to go inside it.
  • The Tape Knew You Would Say That: The "recording" of Monokuma manages to have a retort for Usami's reactions to what it says.
