Danganronpa Gaiden, also known as The Ultimate Detective and The Ultimate Hope Gaiden, is a Danganronpa Flash Forward Fic series written by WiiFan2009.

Taking place years after the events of The Final Killing Game, this series mainly focuses on Makoto and Kyoko Naegi as they, their friends, and their family live their peaceful lives after the world recovers from "The Biggest, Most Awful, Most Tragic Event in Human History".

Danganronpa Gaiden provides examples of:

• Adaptation Expansion: It shows what happened in the forgotten two years prior to the original game as well as the Class 78 survivors' time at the Future Foundation prior to DR3.
• April Fools' Plot: "April Fools!" has Makoto and Kyoko prank each other with their least favorite foods (bitter melon and coriander for Kyoko and a mixture of radishes, daikon slices, carrots, broccoli, and snow peas for Makoto).
• Apocalypse Not: By the time the majority of the series takes place the Tragedy has been pretty much dealt with. Society has returned to normal, and children are even able to return to school and enjoy frivolous activities like trick-or-treating.
• Babies Ever After: Each of the couples from the first game, plus several from the second. Makoto and Kyoko take the prize in this series, having a total of four children.
• Birthday Episode:
  • "Happy Birthday, Makoto!" has Kyoko giving a gift to Makoto during their time in the Future Foundation.
  • "Komaru’s First Post-Tragedy Birthday!" has Makoto trying to set up the perfect birthday party for Komaru.
  • "What Do I Get For Byakuya's Birthday?" has Aoi trying to figure out what to give to Byakuya for his birthday.
  • "Kiki Naegi’s First Birthday!", "A Birthday in Novoselic!", and "Mokubo’s First Words!" has Kiki celebrating her first, sixth, and eighth birthdays respectively.
• Cerebus Syndrome: While the series has mainly been a Slice of Life story, the end of "Kiki & Shuichi Go to College!" has Kiki and Shuichi being kidnapped and being forced into a new Killing Game.
• Christmas Episode:
  • "Naegi’s First Christmas" has Makoto and Kyoko spending their first Christmas together as an engaged couple.
  • "A Leosaya Christmas!" has Leon spending Christmas with Sayaka and her father.
  • "Christmas with the Ultimate Despair!" has Junko convincing Mukuro, using the latter's jealousy for Makoto and Kyoko's relationship, to joining in her plan.
  • "Mokubo’s First Christmas Party!" has the Naegis and Class 78 survivors throwing a party to celebrate Mokubo's first Christmas.
  • "Christmas with Komamiki!" has Mikan and Nagito spending Christmas at the Naegi household while they're checking up on Kyoko's third pregnancy.
  • "Christmas Dance!" has Kiki and friends attending a Christmas dance at Hope's Peak.
• Due to the Dead: Numerous facilities in the new Hope's Peak are named after many students and staff, including:

• Fan-Created Offspring: Several, with each of the couples from the first game having at least one. The main focus is Kiki Naegi, daughter of Makoto and Kyoko.
• Festival Episode:
  • Chapter Two of "Love is in the Air!" has Makoto and Kyoko celebrate White Day.
  • "Happy White Day, Kiki!" has Gonta giving Kiki a gift on White Day for giving him chocolate the previous day.
  • "Returning Kiki’s Kindness!" has Shuichi trying to find a gift for Kiki on White Day to return the favor for her giving him chocolate.
• Gratuitous Japanese: Japanese words are sprinkled in dialogue here and there.
• Halloween Episode:
  • "Trick-or-Treating with Hiro and Kawako!" has Makoto and Kiki going trick-or-treating with Hiro and his daughter Kawako.
  • "Sibling Trick-or-Treating!" has Mokubo's first Halloween and trick-or-treating with Kiki and Hana.
  • Chapter 7 of "Momoharu Week 2022!" has Kiki going trick-or-treating with Maki and Kaito.
• Happily Married: All of the Class 77 and 78 survivors are shown to be in loving relationships.
• Ironic Hell: Or Heaven in this case. Junko is sentenced to spend her afterlife in Heaven, forever surrounded by happiness and hope.
• Together in Death: The final fate of deceased couples in this series. The most prominent example is Leon and Sayaka reuniting in Heaven.
• Valentine's Day Episode:
  • Chapter One of "Love is in the Air!" has Makoto and Kyoko celebrate their first Valentine's Day as a married couple.
  • "Kiki Naegi’s First Valentine’s Day!" has Kiki mainly giving her classmates friend chocolate.
  • "First Valentine's Day at Hope's Peak Academy!" has Shuichi go through his first Valentine's Day after his breakup with Kaede.
• Wedding Episode:
  • "Tying the Knot" has Makoto and Kyoko getting married.
  • "A Momoharu Wedding!" has Maki and Kaito getting married after the latter is told he only has a year or two left to live before dying from his illness.
