The Blooming Moon Chronicles, also known as the 99 Worlds Saga, is a My Little Pony fanfiction series written by BlackRoseRaven.

A mix of fantasy, adventure, and romance, the story follows Luna and her personal aide, Scrivener Blooms, as they travel across the world in an attempt to find their true selves. Along the way, they make new friends and battle deadly foes.

The series draws heavy inspiration from Norse Mythology.

It is divided into ten books, with a five-book sequel series titled Songs of Lost Children.

• Metempsychosis: Luna and Scrivener race to reverse Ragnarok, and restore all that was destroyed.
• Because Love Conquers All: An alternate ending to Metempsychosis that depicts Luna and Scrivener's journeys into corruption and darkness.
• Decretum: As worlds and realities collide, Luna fights one last war to save Equestria.
• Absolution: Antares Mīrus sets off on his journey to find his parents; heroes who vanished years ago.
• Synthesis of the Atheist: A malicious psychopath sets his sights on Luna and Scrivener.
• The Hermit's Tale: The confessions of the administrator tasked to watch over the ponies' world.
• Glory Be: Luna and Scrivener fight to set right the wrongs of the past, and save their family and friends.

• Zecora's Piñata: "A zebra spirit meets an unlikely ally after he's sent to right a wrong in Equestria."
• The Rhythm of the Dance: "Cadence and Shining Armor have an adventure."
• One Wish For Nothing: "An evil alicorn tries to bring destruction to Equestria, and accidentally ends up fighting a much greater threat to the nation than he could ever be."
• Thorn of the Rose: "A foal is adopted by an unlikely mother: now, a flesh-and-blood pony must learn to survive in a Clockwork World."
• Hecate's Orphanage: "Cadence and other ponies from across countless parallel worlds work together to protect their universe from monsters."

The Blooming Moon 'Verse as a whole contains examples of:

• Abusive Parents:
  • Scrivener's unicorn-supremacist father treated Scrivener like a slave because the latter was born without a horn.
  • Sol Seraph, Fluttershy's mother, was also an extremely abusive mother to Fluttershy.
    • Which runs in the family, as Hecate's Orphanage shows Sol Seraph's father to be just as bad, if not worse.
• Action Girl: Pretty much any female character; Luna, Twilight, Cadence, and Freya are just a few. Freya, in particular, borders on Lady of War status.
• Action Mom: Luna and Twilight. Hecate also counts, being the mother of Thesis.
• Adaptational Badass: Cadence, in the show, does have some badass moments, but is generally a supporting character. This version of her, though, is an Action Girl and is one of the best fighters in Decretum.
• Affably Evil: From her appearances in Hecate's Orphanage, Melinda the Sky Witch could be seen as this. She even offers advice to characters like Moonflower and Thorn Blackfeather. However, she does still remain an antagonist, and many of her actions do hinder Cadence and her team.
• The Ageless: Pretty much the entire main cast qualifies. It's been more than a hundred years since the beginning of the story, yet very few characters have actually aged past their prime.
• Alternate Universe Fic: The series radically diverges from canon, with multiple new characters and new locations.
• All Just a Dream: The side-story The Long Dark Tunnel presents the events of the first six stories as delusions that Scrivener Blooms has after Luna, his fiancée, dies. It is later implied that The Long Dark Tunnel is the dream, while the main series is the real world.
• Amplifier Artifact: Luna's soulstone horn from Synthesis of the Atheist and onwards could be considered this.
  • In Because Love Conquers All, multiple characters receive these: namely, Celestia, Scrivener Blooms, and the Moon Blessed.
• An Arm and a Leg: In Thorn of The Rose, Thorn Blackfeather gets his foreleg caught in a massive gear; as a result, it has to be amputated. He receives a mechanical leg as a prosthetic.
• Archive Panic: The original series itself contains almost 4.5 million words as a whole. The entire 'verse spans nearly 7 million words.
• Ascended Extra: Baron La Croix is a minor antagonist in Glory Be. However, he later becomes the protagonist of Zecora's Piñata, and one of the main characters of Hecate's Orphanage.
• Back from the Dead:
  • This happens to almost every character in Metempsychosis. The condition was to be a good or repentant soul. Many, like Sol Seraph and Scrivener's father, refused and were denied.
  • Twilight Sparkle is revived as a lich in Decretum.
  • Sleipnir died over a thousand years before Moonrise, and yet is hanging around Looking Glass World with his new wife, Pinkamena.
  • With the help of the Swan, Cadence is able to come back to life after being killed, and does so multiple times. However, this does result in drastic physical changes. It also strengthens the connection between Cadence and the Swan.
  • The Voidborn.
• Badass Bookworm: Scrivener Blooms is a poet and a writer. He is also an extremely competent fighter.
  • Twilight Sparkle could also count.
• Battle Couple: Luna and Scrivener.
• Big Bad: Valthrudnir could be considered this, as his actions are the driving force behind most of the events in the series.
  • Thesis is the Big Bad of Synthesis of the Atheist.
  • Glory Be has He Of Many Thousand Faces. Subverted as HOMTF just wanted friends and did it wrong, the true Big Bad is Cardinal Luxferre.
  • The Big Bad of Hecate's Orphanage appears to be a witch named Thokk. "She" is actually Loki in disguise.
• Blood Magic: Blood Seers, like Scarlet Sage.
• Camp Gay: Moonflower, so much.
• Death Is Cheap: Many characters are dead, yet get to hang out with their still living friends. Chief among these is Sleipnir, whose death was a major part of Moonrise's backstory, and whose return led to him meeting his wife, Pinkamena.
• Doorstopper: Most of the later books in the series are well over 300,000 words long, with Glory Be clocking in at 1,039,124 words.
  • Hecate's Orphanage, the final book in Songs of Lost Children, is even longer, at 1,149,615 words.
• Eternal Love: Luna, Scrivener, and Twilight Sparkle are immortal and in a relationship.
• Fantastic Racism: Scrivener Blooms' hometown, North Neigh, was extremely unicorn-supremacist. Scrivener was born without a horn. As a result, his family and neighbors treated him very horribly.
• Face–Heel Turn: Ignominious became the monster we see in the story because he fell in love with Luna and was rejected.
  • Innocence undergoes one in Glory Be. She eventually does do a Heel–Face Turn, though.
• Fluffy the Terrible: A Tyrant Wyrm is a fabled monster that leaves death and destruction in its path. In Glory Be, Scrivener Blooms artificially creates one, and then names it Poe.
• Gender Bender: Six Broken Ponies reveals that Rainbow Dash is trans male. Since this is Equestria, Twilight figures out how to transform his body into a stallion's, and then make it permanent.
• Götterdämmerung:
  • Starlit Knights ends in the world's destruction due to Ragnarok. Metempsychosis is about Luna and Scrivener tracking down all of the good ponies' souls and ferrying them to Looking Glass World before the old world finishes decaying into nothingness. Ponies like Sol Seraph and Scrivener's father are left behind to fade with the world, while Velites are resurrected to their original bodies and demons or spirits who were Good All Along (like the Phooka) are also brought to Looking Glass World.
  • There is also Decretum and Endworld, warped from simple alternate Equestrias to the mechanical post-apocalyptic locales we see, both as a deliberate result of Valthrudnir's machinations.
• Heel–Face Turn:
  • Thesis, formerly the main antagonist of Synthesis of the Atheist, does one in Hecate's Orphanage. Regrettably, he dies of Void poisoning before it ends.
    • His mother, Hecate, does one even earlier, going from simply an alternate Princess Celestia to what was essentially a tyrannical puppet of Valthrudnir, to a ruler who genuinely wants to protect her empire, however harsh or cold she may seem.
• Knight Templar: Stronghold Halfdragon, who led a Crusade against Equestria nearly a thousand years prior to replacing the Two Sisters in the backstory of One Wish For Nothing.
• Light Is Not Good:
  • At the end of Moonrise, Celestia (with a nudge from Valthrudnir) goes power-mad and decides to "protect" Equestria by going One-Winged Angel and rejecting the magic of friendship in favor of increased control, though she gets better after Luna snaps her out of it.
  • The Light is an antagonistic force in Glory Be.
• The Multiverse: The series features many different alternate worlds revolving around a single core world (the world as depicted in My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic). The further away a world is from the core, the greater the differences between that world and the TV show.
• Norse Mythology: As stated at the top, the whole story is based on it. Specific examples include:
  • Luna is Brynhild, aka the infamous singing Fat Lady who immolated herself alive. Apparently after that she became a Valkyrie under Freya.
  • Celestia is Freya, and is forced to revert to that identity in Glory Be.
  • Sleipnir is NOT Odin's eight-legged steed, but rather named after him. The Sleipnir we know is actually Thor. You are challenged to figure out how that works.
  • Valthrudnir is a Jötnar, a draconic frost giant.
  • Odin and Hel turn up, Valhalla and Helheim are visited, and Kvasir takes over for Odin when the All-Father is killed in battle. What he was fighting depends on the timeline.
  • One version of Cadance is Danzsöngr, a Swan Maiden, a line of artificial warriors that preceded the Valkyries. The rivalry between them is why Cadance and Luna Brynhild can never get along.
  • Loki ends up being the Final Boss of the canon, unless BlackRoseRaven decides to write further for it, and all draconequi, as chaotic beings, invoke his name.
• Our Liches Are Different: Twilight Sparkle is a lich.
• Precision F-Strike:
  • Scrivener Blooms drops one Valthrudnir in Metempsychosis.
  • Cadence tries to drop one on Loki in Hecate's Orphanage, but it ends in a Curse Cut Short.
• Reincarnation:
  • Luna is the reincarnation of the Valkyrie Brynhild, while her sister Celestia is Freya reborn.
  • Sleipnir is a reincarnation of Thor.
  • Cadence from Songs of Lost Children, was formerly a Swan Maiden (a precursor to the Valkyries) who was reborn as a pony.
• Shout-Out: Discombobulation makes too many of these to count.
• Snark-to-Snark Combat: Luna, Scrivener and Twilight are quipping at each other almost half the time that there isn't actual combat happening.
• Split Personality: One wants to say it's played with, but that doesn't seem to do it justice. Pinkamena is introduced as one in Six Broken Ponies but it turns out she's the original, imprisoned by the Element Of Laughter, which used her as a template to create the Pinkie Pie we know, when her Nature, awakened once more by Rainbow Dash's first Sonic Rainboom, clashed with the Nurture of her upbringing, courtesy of her parents. To say she's not happy about it, even years later at the point in time in which 6BP takes place, would be to say lava is warm. One is reminded of Cupcakes (Sergeant Sprinkles) by what she's got in mind for Pinkie and her friends.
  • Literal Split Personality: And then Pinkamena got a new body for herself when she became a demon, though it ended with her Heel–Face Turn and reconciliation with her declared younger sister.
• Start of Darkness: The side story Gjallarsong is one for Thesis and Hecate, showcasing their lives before the Empire of Decretum came into being.
• Winged Unicorn: As expected from a My Little Pony fanfic, there are numerous examples. e.g: Luna, Celestia, Twilight Sparkle
  • Antares has his own set of bat-wings, which he received from Nightmare Moon.
  • Unlike other MLP fics, ponies on Luna's homeworld refer to these ponies as winged unicorns, with alicorn meaning the material out of which unicorn horns are made. However, it is revealed that other worlds refer winged unicorns as alicorns as is done in the show itself.
