"You said that this is the world of our Gods, the great Creators of life and that we would have the opportunity to right the sins they have committed against us. I don't ever recall you mentioning anything about this world having its own guardians."

Blood on the Hands of a Healer is a Kamen Rider Ex-Aid and Re:CREATORS Crossover Fanfic by DCD10unite.

Starting right after Episode 27 of Kamen Rider Ex-Aid, Emu Hojo aka the former Genius Gamer M, after visiting the grave of his late sister Yuna "Setsuna" Hojo, goes home to decompress and to watch Elemental Symphony of Vogelchevalier, when his tablet starts acting up...

Soon enough, Emu and his follow Doctor Riders find themselves dealing with more fictional characters from more than just video games.

This fanfic provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Somehow, the author has managed to make Emu suffer even more than in canon. How you ask? Even before having to endure the events of the first half Ex-Aid, he lost his sister sometime before the beginning of the the series, with the implication that it killed much of his competitive spirit for gaming and being the reason why he retired from being a professional gamer. Those who knows Setsuna's story knows why.
  • Adaptational Badass: In canon, Emu was very much a (Non)combat medic who couldn't throw a punch outside of his suit if his life depended on it. Here, with the Gashacon Breaker, he was able to bat away the Military Uniform Princess's cutlasses without needing to transform.
  • Ascended Fanboy: As far as he's concerned, Emu is living the dream by fighting side-by-side with so many characters he's adores as an Otaku.
  • Back-to-Back Badasses: Kamen Rider Brave and Kamen Rider Snipe engage in this during their battle against Aliceteria and Blitz, particularly when they use the Level 4 Drago Knight Hunter Z and Night of Safari Gashats.
  • Bash Brothers: Kamen Riders Ex-Aid and Brave. Even when witnessing them fight together for the very first time, Selesia and Meteroa can tell they've been fighting together for a long time due to how amazing their teamwork is.
  • Composite Character: With his relationship with Yuna "Setsuna" Hojo and his first meeting with Selesia and the Military Uniform Princess nearly identical to the one from canon, Emu fills in the role of Sōta Mizushino, the Supporting Protagonist of Re:CREATORS.
  • Cool Versus Awesome: Combat Medics with Power Armor empowered by video games take on invading fictional characters from different mediums and genres. It's as spectacularly over the top as it sounds and gets in this fic.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Implied with Emu as something happened prior to the story that caused him to actively retire from being the Genius Gamer "M", which likely has something to do with his dead sister.
  • Didn't See That Coming: When invading the land of the gods, the Military Uniform Princess clearly did not foresee the presence of Kamen Riders. She very much admits such to Aliceteria and Mamika.
  • Did You Just Flip Off Cthulhu?: In response to Magane telling her to open her book, Nico's reaction is throwing said book at her face. Magane simply laughs at the sheer balls of the action.
  • Dual Wielding: Remembering how he defeated the dragon Bugster Union, Ex-Aid throws Brave his own sword in order for the latter to finish off Aranbura.
  • Evil Laugh: Magane does this during her first conversation with Nico, much to the latter's disturbance as Nico had just hit Magane in the face by throwing her book at her.
  • Fix Fic: Re:CREATORS never bothered to explain just how the Military Uniform Princess was able to bring over fictional characters into the real world at all. This story gives the reasonable explanation of Kamen Rider Chronicle's activation turning the real world itself part fiction, allowing the In-Universe fictional characters to be brought there.
  • For Want Of A Nail: The events of Re:CREATORS taking place in the world of Kamen Rider Ex-Aid causes quite the stir of things for the former show:
    • Thanks to Taiga being there during his kidnapping, Gai Takarada isn't locked away by Aliceteria and co.
    • Nico is able to get Magane out of the bookstore she just happened to be shopping at before Magane has the shopkeeper killed.
  • Genius Sweet Tooth:
Selesia: Isn't it too early for cake?
Hiiro: First of all, I'm paying for all of this, so you don't get to judge my eating habits. Secondly, I have a constant schedule full of patients that need curing, and so requires the right amount of sugar levels for me to keep up. Thirdly, and most importantly...*gives Selesia a Serious Business expression* it is NEVER too early for cake.
  • Genre Savvy: The reason why Nico was able to save the canonically killed shopkeeper is due to seeing the Schmuck Bait Magane had presented him before it was too late. It comes up again when Magane goads her to open the book she has.
Nico: Like hell I will! I know for a FACT I'd be screwed if I did that. Don't think I can't see that obvious trap from a mile away!
  • Ham-to-Ham Combat: Happens in Chapter 2 between Nico and Magane after Nico gets Magane out of the store before she kills the shopkeeper.
  • The Heavy: A shared example between Parado and the Military Uniform Princess. The former's actions in allowing the creation and activation of Kamen Rider Chronicle is what allows the latter to bring over the fictional characters from various pop culture mediums that causes the Serial Escalation this story is based around.
  • Hypocrite: Kamen Rider Brave all but accuses Aliceteria of being this due to her willingness to sacrifice the people of his world in order to obtain the power to save her despite being a knight of honor.
  • Incoming Ham: Exploited by Nico in Chapter 2 where she yells "I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU THAT I WOULD PAY FOR IT!" to distract Magane before she can kill the shopkeeper.
  • Insistent Terminology: In all conversations with Hiiro, Aliceteria keeps on calling him "Lord Brave" despite him saying otherwise. At the end of Chapter 3, Hiiro tells Taiga "You will refer to me as Lord Brave, mongrel"...and just gets a "Screw you!" from the latter in response.
  • Kirk Summation: A hero-to-hero example, which occurs during the first fight with Mamika, when Ex-Aid has the latter pinned down. This speech honestly makes Mamika doubt her actions much earlier than canon.
  • The Knights Who Say "Squee!": Even after having Seen It All at this point, Emu Hojo cannot help but showcase how much of a weeaboo he is whenever he meets the fictional characters from the various mediums he's a fan of.
  • Merged Reality: Justified and Exploited. When Parado was able to activate Kamen Rider Chronicle, the real world itself became a game, and thus, part fiction, allowing the Military Uniform Princess to crossover into the real world and bring others from other fictional worlds there as well.
  • More Dakka: How Snipe deals with Aliceteria's Summon Magic.
Snipe: If you're going to aim it all at me…THEN LEAD IS ALL YOU'RE GOING TO GET!
  • Mythology Gag: In a What Could Have Been for Kamen Rider Ex-Aid, the original script featured Emu having a big sister who died prior to the series and her death was his motivation for having such strong empathy and care to all his patients. Here, Yuna "Setsuna" Hojo fills in this role.
  • No-Sell: The Military Uniform Princess manages to do this to Ex-Aid's Mighty Critical Strike even when he was using the Muscular Power-Up medal.
  • One-Man Army: Snipe, in his Jet Combat form, manages to completely wipe out Aliceteria's Gotz Von Berlichingen summons.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: "Bugsterina" is the designated name for the one who brought all of the Creations to Earth. Emu is the one to dub her this, even insisting on it as she has yet to mention her true identity, because he himself is really tired of always saying "Military Uniform Girl". Everyone else picks up on calling her this as time goes on.
  • Related in the Adaptation: Neither Emu or Setsuna had any sibling to speak of in their respective shows. Here, Emu is the slightly younger brother of Setsuna, who he was very close to prior to her death.
  • Shmuck Bait: Magane's method of killing people is to convince them to open her book to unleash the Hound of Tindalos. Nico doesn't fall for it either time, literally grabbing and dragging Magane out of the store the first time and then simply flinging Magane's book at her face the second time.
  • Slasher Smile: Magane gives the shopkeeper one in Chapter 2 which is lampshaded when the narration notes it sets off alarm bells in Nico's head.
  • Serious Business: To Hiiro, there is such thing as no time for cake.
  • Shout-Out: In Chapter 3, Emu - much to Hiiro's irritation - quotes Game Theory.
  • Spared By Adaptation: Thanks to Nico's interference, the shopkeeper of the bookstore doesn't have to deal with the Hound of Tindalos.
  • Stalker without a Crush: The Military Uniform Princess has been keeping tabs on Emu for an unknown amount of time, to the point that she knows exactly what's under his bed.
Emu: Oh...don't tell me you were one of the stalkers that my Social Hub warned about!
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: Magane has a pair of these.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: "YOU HAVE NO PROOF OF WHAT I HAVE!"
  • Throw the Book at Them: Nico's response when Magane tells her to open Magane's book is throwing said book straight at Magane's face. Cue the latter giving an Evil Laugh, disturbing Nico.
  • Wham Line: The first chapter's prologue ends on this, completely changing the dynamic for how Emu interacts with the story of Re:CREATORS.
Emu: But, even now… I still wish you were here, Setsuna.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: During their fight, Brave harshly calls out Aliceteria's willingness to allow the innocents of his world to die in order to have the power to save her own world, slandering the ideals she lives by in the process.
  • When Dimensions Collide: The reason why the Military Uniform Princess is able to enter and bring over other fictional characters into the real world? Because Kamen Rider Chronicle's activation has caused the fictional and real worlds to become mixed together due to its power of turning the real world into a video game.
  • Underestimating Badassery: The Military Uniform Princess first reaction is to laugh at Kamen Rider Ex-Aid when he transforms into his Level 1 form for the first time in front of her. Her second reaction is barely blocking and dodging the hammer he has aiming to knock her head off.
