A Young Girl's Guerrilla War is a crossover fanfiction between The Saga of Tanya the Evil and Code Geass by Readhead.

An unfortunate turn of events ends Tanya’s life far earlier than expected, forcing Being X to invoke a second transmigration and reincarnation. Now reborn in the world of Code Geass, Hajime Tanya - now a Japanese half-blood street urchin - becomes an eyewitness to colonial invasion and enemy occupation when Japan is annexed Holy Britannian Empire. Shunted off to the Shinjuku Ghetto, orphaned, and with no options other than an impoverished life of cruelty and subjugation, a twelve-year-old Tanya finds herself joining the burgeoning Japanese resistance.

Under the leadership of the Kaname Ohgi, Tanya must draw on the experiences of two past lives and adapt to the world around her if Japan is to be free once more.

The story can be found on Fanfiction Net, Archive of Our Own, Spacebattles, and Sufficient Velocity.

This Fanfiction contains examples of:

  • Age Lift: Both Naoto and Ohgi have been aged up to 28 from their canon 24.
  • Black-and-Gray Morality: The Japanese resistance groups fight to free their country from foreign occupation but are far from upstanding and often fight dirty to achieve their aims, harboring many who are perfectly happy to target civilians to make a point. The Britannians meanwhile view the “Elevens” as second-class citizens and conduct cultural genocide to Honorary Britannian ethnic groups and are more than willing to commit large-scale massacres and humanitarian crises to pacify unruly regions.
  • Covert Group with Mundane Front: The Rising Sun Benevolent Association advertises itself as a charitable association aimed at improving Japanese public health and fostering better relations between the Britannians and the local “Elevens”. While the first is technically true (the RSBA provides education and medicine to Shinjuku residents), it also provides a front for the Kozuki Organization to gain funds and gather members for resisting Britannian occupation.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: A combined Chinese and Southeast Asian force in Area 10 (Indochina) manage to annihilate a major Britannian garrison and its relief forces in the Siege of Fort Aurelian and the Nghia Lo Massacre. The defeat is so total, equaled only to the Humiliation at Edinburgh two centuries ago, that Britannia begins suffering localized rebellions in several other Areas.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Tanya is killed by a lucky Francois artillery strike mere hours before Operation Revolving Door, far earlier than the non-omnipotent Being X had ever intended. The aforementioned deity is left chagrined and opts to grant Tanya a second chance at life to test her faith and resolve – in the universe of Code Geass.
  • Great Offscreen War:
    • The First Pacific War, evidently waged between Europa Universalis and Imperial Japan approximately seventy years before the canon story, ended so poorly for the Japanese that the country was reformed into the Republic of Japan.
    • The Second Pacific War ended with Britannia invading the Japanese mainland and forcing Tokyo’s unconditional surrender. Even many of the characters too young to have fought in it still remember the devastation.
  • Half-Breed Discrimination: Japanese of mixed ancestry (hafu) are stigmatized one way or another. Tanya, being the blonde-haired daughter of a prostitute and an unknown Britannian sailor, looks more Britannian than Japanese and is initially distrusted by many of her Japanese allies. Kallen meanwhile, despite being the redheaded daughter of a Britannian noble, has to hide her Japanese ancestry when among the Ashford Academy students and is almost assaulted by gangs in Shinjuku who mistake her for Britannian.
  • Les Collaborateurs:
    • Many Japanese seek favor with the new Britannian administration as Honorary Britannians, hoping to either gain more comfortable livelihoods, protect their families, or to gain better social standing in the world they live in. Those like Suzaku who join for service in the Britannian army are admitted into the Honorary Legions.
    • The Six Houses of Kyoto are a group of major Japanese industrialists who willingly aligned themselves (and the entire Kyoto prefecture) with the Britannian colonial authority after their country’s defeat and are considered among the greatest traitors in Japanese history. Whether their loyalty to the new regime is earnest however is another story.
  • Naturalized Name: As part of Britannia’s cultural genocide campaigns, Honorary Britannians are required to adopt new Anglicized names to reflect their new status as subjects of the HBE. The Japanese are no different—Sumeragi Kaguya has had her name legally changed to "Sophie Sumeragi."
  • Occupiers Out of Our Country: As in canon, the Kozuki Organization and the Japanese Liberation Force are but a handful of resistance cells operating across Japan to resist Britannia’s occupation and colonization. Unlike canon, they aren't Lelouch's chosen tool, whilst Tanya is invested in their cause more than she ever was in the Empire's wars.
  • Opportunistic Bastard: The Six Houses of Kyoto are a group of oligarchs, aristocrats, plutocrats, and imperial holdovers who willingly aligned with the Britannian Area Administration shortly after the war ended, taking the entire Kyoto prefecture with them. As the “Numbers Advisory Committee” with significant investments in businesses and lands across the country. Most Japanese consider them traitors, but their loyalty to Britannia is largely fleeting, with many opting to selectively fund and supply anti-Britannian groups to undermine the colonial authorities. Even then however, many opt to withhold materiel and monetary support to insurgent groups they view as either lacking in ability, too maverick to keep under their control, or too contrary to their visions of what future they want for Japan, with more of a concern for advancing their own positions. “Lady Sophie” Sumeragi Kaguya, head of Sumeragi House and de facto heir to the long-defunct Chrysanthemum Throne, applies this in a different way: she genuinely wants Japan liberated and quickly allies with Tanya as the RSBA’s “benefactor” and Kozuki Organization’s supplier despite the other Houses viewing them as beneath their notice, and immediately turns this to pushing a more militaristic approach.
  • Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: The Kozuki Organization recruits partisans wherever they can from the civilian population. The fact that they manage any sort of successes compared to much larger groups tends to surprise some. Also deconstructed, as their initial low hiring standards mean a number of psychopaths in their ranks end up causing disciplinary issues and nearly causes disaster when one member takes advantage of the group's resources to launch a personal murder campaign.
  • Your Terrorists Are Our Freedom Fighters: The Britannian victory over Japan and the destruction of most of the Japanese conventional forces has forced many of the country’s remaining combatants and civilian resistance forces to engage the Britannians in an unconventional guerrilla war. The willingness of many resistance members to attack Honorary Britannians as valid targets regardless of the body count makes the various resistance groups sharply divisive even within the country.
