Fanfic / A Horrible World of Plot Holes and Spelling Errors

A Horrible World of Plot Holes and Spelling Errors in an Animaniacs fanfic written by ViridianVenus (who is referred to in-fic by a previous handle, DancesWithCorpses). It can be found here.

Yakko, Wakko, and Dot wake up one day to find a girl they don't know claiming to be their sister in horribly mangled English. They quickly deduce that they're in a badfic of some kind, but upon finding the author's account, they discover that she hates typical badfic tropes. Realizing that they don't have a plot otherwise, the Warners decide to track the author down and demand to know what's going on. Along the way, they pick up more terrible OCs, and hilarity (for the most part) ensues.

This fanfic contains examples of:

  • Aborted Arc: Twist getting some Hidden Depths, which ultimately isn't followed up on.
  • Anti-Climax: After all the problems they cause, the Sues are killed for good via a quick Colony Drop. The Warners are just glad they're gone.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Harm any of the Warners, and the other two will come down on you hard. The fic especially highlights this aspect with Yakko, who also acts as a parental substitute to his younger siblings.
  • Cat Fight: Milk and K.A.S.E.Y. get into one, much to the enjoyment of every male in the area.
  • Colony Drop: The Satellite of Love is dropped onto the Sues, turning them into little more than Ludicrous Gibs.
  • Crack Fic: While it does get into some seriousness, the fic at its core is a fic dedicated to parodying and lampshading the hell out of certain tropes.
  • Crossover Cameo:
  • Dark Fic: The Warners hate having to be in these, usually because something bad happens to one or all of them. Dot isn't thrilled when she realizes that DancesWithCorpses is one such writer, specifically citing that she had her murdered on Christmas Eve.
  • Deus ex Machina: Milk's magic pendant works like this, allowing her to track down Yakko and reviving her when certain conditions are met.
  • Double Standard Rape: Female on Male: While Yakko's unwanted admirers are Played for Laughs for the most part, Dot's unwanted admirer is not. Partly justified in that Dot's Sue is also explicitly trying to date a minor, while Yakko is at least around the same age as his Sues.
  • Drives Like Crazy: We don't get to see it, but the cabbie that takes the Warners to Disney World is this, as well as everyone else in Orlando.
  • Easily Forgiven: DancesWithCorpses manages to bribe the Warners into forgiving her with tickets to Pirate Mini Golf, Disney's Princess Spa, Cirque du Soleil, and lunch and dinner reservations.
  • Foreshadowing: After a near-crash landing, Dot wonders if the author is saving the worst of the Sues for her. She's right.
  • Genius Loci: Disney World really is the most magical place on Earth...to the point that any genuine "tears of love" are enough to revive a person. Which means that when Yakko tries to sell his "dramatic mourning" of Milk by thinking about terrible things happening to his siblings, those tears end up rendering her death null and void, much to his frustration.
  • Genre Savvy: The Warners have been in enough fanfics to recognize the common badfic cliches.
  • Genre Shift: In order to get rid of the Sues, the author temporarily turns the story into a Star Trek parody.
  • Gilligan Cut: Yakko and Wakko assume that their author is working on an ending. Cut to said author playing with her cat.
  • Girl on Girl Is Hot: DancesWithCorpses weaponizes this to escape the Warners at one point.
  • Half-Identical Twins: Wakko and Twist are this, but Twist tries to claim that they're Identical Twins.
  • Head-Turning Beauty: Yakko initially has this reaction to Milk, until he realizes she's a Sue.
  • Hidden Depths: Twist is genuinely hurt that her "siblings" not only don't remember her, but actively want to get rid of her. Yakko is caught off-guard by this, not expecting a Sue to have any depth.
  • Hypocrite:
    • The Warners wonder if their author is this after reading her profile page and discovering she hates everything that she added to the fic they’re in. Said author later explains she only did so to create a parody of stories she hates.
    • After Dot criticizes them for going after yet another pretty woman, Yakko and Wakko point out that she does the same with handsome men.
    • Dot accuses Yakko of being one when he says that he'd maul the face off of anyone who made eyes at her, even though he was making eyes at Milk. Yakko justifies himself by pointing out that, unlike the seventeen-year-old Milk, Dot is only ten, and as such anyone who would make eyes at her deserves to have their face mauled off.
  • The Immodest Orgasm: During their stay in Texas, the Warners have the unfortunate luck of rooming next to a couple that shouts loud euphemisms when having sex. Yakko eventually reads them the riot act, and Dot — not understanding what they're talking about — has nightmares about B-52 bombers all night.
  • Innocence Lost: Poor Dot. If the Sues' constant innuendos didn't do it, then it was probably WakkoBob's rape attempt that sealed the deal.
  • Look Behind You: DancesWithCorpses pulls this at one point to escape the Warners; the distraction in question is Milk and K.A.S.E.Y. making out.
  • No Fourth Wall: The Warner siblings are fully aware that they're in a fanfic, and act appropriately.
  • Noodle Incident: In order to sufficiently fake crying over Milk's death, Yakko imagines his siblings getting hit by a bus. Dot's comments suggest that he’s used this tactic before, and that nothing good ever comes of it.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: Dot does not let Yakko live down accidentally resurrecting one of his Sues.
  • Overly Long Name: Katarona Anelia Solstroma Emmanuella Yolistra, or K.A.S.E.Y. for short.
  • Pædo Hunt: The worst of the Sues is WakkoBob, an adult who actively tries to pursue a relationship with the ten-year-old Dot.
  • Parody Sue: Four of them, each parodying a certain trend in Animaniacs fanfics or fanfic as a whole:
    • First is Twist Warner, who parodies the "long-lost sibling" breed of Sue, as well as the general horrible grammar badfic tends to have.
    • Milk and K.A.S.E.Y. play the role of the typical relationship sues, with K.A.S.E.Y. also playing the "newly-discovered member of the Warners' species" card.
    • WakkoBob is based off of some actual minor x adult fics the author has read.
  • Plot Hole: The Warners are quick to point these out when they happen.
  • Rage Against the Author: The fanfic. The entire plot centers around the Warners going to demand an explanation from the author for the Sues popping up.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Yakko unleashes a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown on WakkoBob when he tries to rape Dot.
  • Rape as Drama: WakkoBob attempts to rape Dot when she's alone. Fortunately, Yakko and Wakko stop him just in time.
  • Reality Warper: All Sues can do this to some extent (for example, Twist modifying all of the Warners' family pictures so that she's included in them).
  • Reference Overdosed: Wouldn't be Animaniacs without the pop-culture references.
  • Reincarnation: According to Dot, this happens to Sues after they die; they simply reincarnate into a different fandom.
  • Road Trip Plot: The Warners travel from California to Florida in order to confront the author.
  • Rouge Angles of Satin: Twist Warner speaks exclusively like this, with some chatspeak thrown in for good measure.
  • Rule of Drama:
    • Played for Laughs; for no other reason than the drama, both pilots on the Warners' first plane die, just so the Sues can land it heroically.
    • When Milk gets run over by a Disney float, Dot points out that Yakko has to mourn her in order for her to die permanently, since she's a Sue.
  • Running Gag:
    • The "World's Greatest Brother" plaque, which gets passed between Yakko and Wakko at various points in the story.
    • Twist disappearing, then reappearing and claiming she was there the whole time. This one gets a lampshade on it.
  • Self-Deprecation: Besides getting chewed out by the Warners, DancesWithCorpses makes no illusions about the crappy life she lives.
  • Sibling Rivalry: Yakko and Wakko compete for the title of Dot's favorite sibling at various points in the fic.
  • Sorry, I'm Gay: Wakko suggests that Yakko claim this in order to get rid of Milk. Yakko points out that he just spent the last half-hour flirting with Milk before finding out she was a Sue, so it wouldn’t work.
  • Spoof Aesop: The Wheel of Morality gives us one at the end.
  • That Came Out Wrong: Wakko accidentally says something that makes it sound like it’s okay for WakkoBob to perve on his sister. He realizes what he said and attempts to take it back, but the damage had been done.
  • Twin Telepathy: Twist claims to have this with Wakko. Wakko makes it clear that this is an Informed Attribute.
  • Wham Line: "I didn't write a rape scene!"
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Yakko is ready to rip DancesWithCorpses a new one for the rape scene...until she reveals she never wrote one.
  • "Where Are They Now?" Epilogue: Done at the end, revealing the fandoms that the Sues reincarnated into after they died, as well as what the Warners and the author ended up doing.
  • Where No Parody Has Gone Before: The Warners and the Sues end up on the bridge of a ship "similar to but legally distinct from the Starship Enterprise" and travel to another planet as part of the author's plan to wrap up the story.
  • Writing by the Seat of Your Pants: In-Universe, DancesWithCorpses admits to doing this with the story, requiring some time to figure out how to end it. This bites her in the ass; without a plot, WakkoBob falls to Wrong Genre Savvy instincts and tries to rape Dot.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: Played for drama. With no plot to guide them, the Sues believe they're in a straight example of their kind of badfic, and not a parody. This leads to WakkoBob's near-rape of Dot, as he believes he's in a story where the minor would willingly consent to that kind of relationship, and thus unable to understand it when Dot protests.
