Happy Tree Friends just
loves depicting injuries to the characters' eyes, if these examples are any indication.
- "Eyes Cold Lemonade" has Giggles blinded by a falling sign while she and Petunia are working a lemonade stand, and then later Petunia gets her head flattened by the other side of the sign falling. She's instantly killed and her eyeball pops out and lands near Giggles, who's cutting up more lemons, and... you can probably already guess where this is going.
- In the music video they did for Fall Out Boy's "The Carpal Tunnel of Love", Toothy gets stung in the eye by a bee, and then he loses his eye when Lumpy closes a door onto it, forcing Toothy to pull it out of its socket. Then the bee stings someone in the eye again, but this time Lumpy is the victim.
- "Eye Candy" is a famous example in which Toothy accidentally jams a lollipop into his eye socket and ends up pulling his eye out. The optic nerve hangs around a tree branch somehow, and then a woodpecker comes and starts pecking the eye.
- Both Toothy and Nutty get parts of their eyes sliced off by a rogue paper airplane in "Sight for Sore Eyes" and again, the show briefly cuts to their points of view (Toothy's being half forward, half backward, and Nutty's with big red spots in the middle). Russell averts the trope twice in the same episode: first, when Lumpy tries to examine his eyes with a dirty glove, and again when Russell puts in his contact lens with his hook hand.note In the first instance, Lumpy presumably gets distracted off-screen, preventing Russell from getting a nasty infection, and in the second instance, Russell applies the contact lens perfectly (after a bit of suspense, of course).
- Toothy gets another eye injury in "Keepin' it Reel." While cautiously, but poorly, trying to hide from Fliqpy, the latter forces a projector through Toothy's skull, melting his brain and eye. His eye could also be briefly seen on the projection screen before he succumbed to his wounds.
- Both Nutty and Cuddles get post-humous eye injuries in "Sweet Ride." One of Nutty's eyes is forced out of his corpse by bees trying to fly out of his body, while Cuddles' bisected head is impaled in the eye by the rabbit's ice cream cone.
- In "Easy Comb, Easy Go", Disco Bear pulls a hair out of his eye, slices the front parts off of them and has a huge mass of hair grow out of them... which he then tries to shave off.
- In "Blind Date", Disco Bear gets pepper sprayed in his eyes by Petunia.
- "A Bit of a Pickle" includes Lammy getting taser wires straight to the left eye.
- There's one in "We're Scrooged" where Lumpy gets a top's tip in his eye. Soon, the top begins to drill into his eye.
- In the episode "Without a Hitch", Flaky stabs Flippy in the eye with a shard of glass. Then we get to see the world through his messed up POV.
- One of Flaky's Imagine Spots has her think Flippy will kill her with a tire iron as he's fixing her car, starting with twisting and pulling out her eye.
- "Swelter Skelter" ends with Shifty slipping on his brother's blood and impaling his own eye on an icicle, killing him.
- In the episode "Random Acts of Silence", Mime gets a papercut across his eye by Flippy. Earlier in the same episode, Fliqpy stabs Sniffles in the back of his head with two pencils that go through Sniffles' eyes.
- This is pretty much the basis of the aptly titled "Camp Pokeneyeout". Nutty gets his eye burned by his marshmallow (and by the end he's eyeless), and Cuddles beans Toothy with a rock so hard it leaves a dent in his eye. Petunia also gets her slingshot rammed into her eyes.
- In "As You Wish", Disco Bear's wish from Lumpy is for a giant disco ball, which projects beams of concentrated light that disintegrate his eyes and burn his flesh off before falling down and crushing him.
- In "Cold Hearted", Toothy throws a snowball at Giggles that causes her face to get stuck to Cro-Marmot's ice block. Her eyes remain stuck and in the process of breaking free they get ripped out, but she lives and ends the episode with her eye sockets bandaged up.
- At the end of "Going Out with a Bang", a sparkle of a firework lands on Cuddles's eye and starts melting in.
- In "The Wrong Side of the Tracks", after Lumpy unknowingly kills Mime by hitting him in the back of the head with a board with nails in it, blood can be seen leaking out of his eye.
- At the beginning of "From Hero to Eternity", Giggles accidentally nails Cuddles in the eye with a snowball that she unknowingly hid a rock in.
- In "Party Animal", after Flaky swells up from eating peanuts, she explodes offscreen when The Mole pokes her in the eye with a needle, mistaking her for the pin the tail on the donkey board. After she explodes, he's pinned to the wall behind him with one of her quills in his own eye.
- In an earlier scene, Fliqpy kills Toothy by taking a slice out of his face with a cake cutter, partially destroying his eyes in the process.
- In "Concrete Solution", a truck carrying rebar can be seen slowly inching one piece toward The Mole's eye, but it Smash Cuts away before we can see anything happen. The next time he appears, he's impaled on several pieces, two of which have gone through both of his eyes. Averted when Lumpy holds a nailgun close to his eye but has it unplugged.
- In "Sea What I Found", Pop lets Cub look through a telescope at the pier, but gets distracted seeing a half-dressed Disco Bear and accidentally tilts the telescope upward, causing the sun's concentrated rays to burn two holes through Cub's eyes and out the back of his head.
- Sniffles' death in "A Hole Lotta Love" ends with two bean cans being jammed into his eyes.
- In "Idol Curiosity", a ship commanded by The Mole crashes into an iceberg, impaling Lumpy's telescope through the moose's head, making him eyeless in the process. Seconds after Lumpy's death, the tiny umbrella from Toothy's drink gets stuck in the beaver's eye. When he opens the umbrella, his eye is revealed to have been impaled and its socket looks like a grapefruit's insides (pictured above).
- In "A Handy Nanny", Handy tries to give a crying Cub his pacifier by grabbing it with his teeth and shooting it into Cub's mouth, only for it to rebound off a kitchen counter and embed itself in Handy's eye. He ends up calming Cub down anyway when the latter laughs at him.
- In "In a Jam", Cuddles signs up for an audition. He brings an electric guitar to the stage, and after he finishes playing, a string breaks off and slashes his right eye in half. Lumpy, one of the judges, accepts him because of that on account that Cuddles is replacing Russell in Lumpy's band. For the rest of the episode, Cuddles wears an eye patch and hat identical to Russell's.
- In "Wipe Out!", Flaky is Eaten Alive by a flock of birds, eye-first.
- In "Pop's BBQ Smoochie", a kebab falls down on the grill. Pop tries to eat it from the side, only for it to slip from his hands and stab his eye in the process.
- In "Disco Bear's Halloween Smoochie", some white cloth appears behind Disco Bear. He grabs some scissors and makes a ghost costume. He then rings a door and gets scared by another ghost, leading to him falling into the basket with scissors, stabbing both his eyes.
- In "Flaky's Baseball Smoochie", Flaky finds a baseball mitt on the ground. Seconds later, a baseball comes hurtling towards her eye and hits it at high speed. Pressure from the blood builds out, until a fountain of blood gushes out, lifting her eye in the air briefly.
