Dethroning Moment / [Work Name]

Go To

An introduction that goes something like "Not even [Work Name] is immune from these moments" if the work is popular, or something snarkier if the work's quality is more... questionable.

Keep in mind:

  • Rules that some people will gladly break whether they see them or not.

  • Some Troper: Complaint that the show is Ruined FOREVERinvoked.
  • Shocked and Appalled: I was offended by a joke in an episode, and stopped watching the show immediately.
  • Ultra Hardcore Real Fan: For me, the straw that broke the camel's back was when a character did something (supposedly) out of character.
  • Alice X Bob 4eva: I Rage Quit the fandom when my favourite ship was sunk.
  • I Don't Get It: Complaint that completely misses the point of a supposedly offensive moment.
  • Line-of-Sight Complainer: Angry rant directed entirely at the Mis-blamed author. From here on I will not follow anything that this author makes, ever.
  • Totally Not a Real Life Example: Angry rant about something one of the creators did in real life.
  • I Actually Like Black Comedy, I Swear: Claim that I love Black Comedy as much as the next man, but this was a step too far.
  • Catgirl: Claim that a joke in the last episode made kittens cry. Seriously, not cool, Mis-blamed author.
  • First Season Wins: Claim that the show has suffered Seasonal Rot, followed by a Nostalgia Filter-fueled rant about how much better the show used to be.
  • Is This a Reality Show: Angry rant directed entirely at a character for doing something dickish, as if that character were a real person.
  • Still No Real Life Here: Example from an actual reality show.
  • Expert Comedian: Claim that I understood an offensive joke perfectly (even though I clearly didn't) and I still didn't find it funny. I have no respect for the people who write this show any longer.
  • Screw Speedy Gonzales: Supposed defense against perceived intolerance against a minority, even though members of that minority are fine with the joke, thought it was funny, and might have even been the ones who wrote it in the first place.
  • The Ethics Committee: Claim that an episode that wasn't supposed to be taken seriously was really preachy, then rant against the moral and how it was Anvilicious.
  • Wannabe Caustic Critic: Nitpicky ranting that just screams "This person will continue to watch the show and will make a fuss every time there's a new episode."
  • DOESNOTREADTHERULES:
    • Entry that LITERALLY breaks every fucking rule of the DMoS page. I seriously don't get it.
    • Another rule-breaking entry from the same troper for the same work for good measure.
  • Aspiring Karma Police: Complaint about anyone being a Karma Houdini at all, no matter what offense they committed, even if Status Quo Is God in this show.
  • Too Close to Home: Complaint that a character was acting cringy... as part of Cringe Comedy.
  • Thin-Skin Logician: Complaint that a character was being hypocritical... as part of Hypocritical Humor.
  • Thin-Skin Politician: Complaint that the work made fun of my side in politics, even if the portrayal was not meant to be taken seriously at all, and/or the work regularly makes fun of the other side as well.
  • No Ban on Politics: I hated that moment because it goes against my political views, which I will now describe at length. Once again, for emphasis, this moment was terrible and made me boycott the show because it doesn't align 100% with my political views.
  • Hardcore Conservative Troper: I can't believe this show appealed to its LGBT Fanbase! I miss when works were allowed to be apolitical. (Since, of course, any nod towards the notion that some people aren't as straight as I am is political.) I'm not a bigot, but as a cisgender straight white male, I am the most important demographic and won't stand for my importance being ignored like that!
  • Some Troper: An attempt to sneak in my second complaint about the same work.
  • Wall O' Text: A long rant pretty much nobody will read anyway. Later updated to also include One More Thing's complaint.
    • MeToo: I agree.
    • Lifelong Crusader: Justifying Edit claiming that the moment is perfectly fine and Wall O' Text is an idiot.
      • Wall O' Text: Natter in response.
    • One More Thing: I'll point out a detail Wall O' Text forgot about that makes the moment even worse. My entry will later be deleted for being redundant after Wall O' Text adds the detail to their own entry.
    • Some Other Troper: This is not actually my most hated moment in the work, but I'll choose it as my Dethroning Moment anyway because Wall O' Text has said everything there is to say about my most hated moment.
  • Obligatory Troper: "Obligatory" example from a work widely considered to be baiting.
  • No Groupthink Here, Nope: Example that was deleted by some devoted fan of the show despite following the rules perfectly.
  • XxX0p1n10n4t3dG4m3rXxX: Rule-breaking complaint about a Scrappy Mechanic, a boring or annoying level, an anticlimactic Boss Battle, or something similar.
  • Mad Protector: Complaint about when my favourite character was killed off.
  • Better Than All Y'all: I think this whole work is one big dethroning moment, not to mention its fanbase.
  • Double Dipper: My previous example used to be this really bad scene that I am describing in detail so you know everything I hated about it, but this scene was so bad it made me want to replace it with this new example.
  • People Ought to Like the Show: A He Panned It, Now He Sucks! rant against a reviewer.
  • Fan Hater: A "He Didn't Pan It, Now He Sucks!" rant against a reviewer.
  • Old Shame: Example that was deleted because the troper regretted ever writing it.
  • Research is Boring: A rant by someone who clearly didn't even watch the show before complaining about it.
  • Expert Comedian: An attempt at Biting-the-Hand Humor by complaining about the Dethroning Moment index itself.
  • Chronic Flouncer: I lost a lot of respect for the show after something happened in episode 13.
  • Chronic Flouncer: After deleting my previous entry, I'll now rant about something even worse in episode 17. I've lost a lot of respect for the show at this point.
  • Chronic Flouncer: For the second time I replace my entry for this show, I'll claim that the ending of episode 19 made me lose all remaining respect for the show.
  • Chronic Flouncer: The series finale somehow made me lose even more respect for the show.
  • Genre Alien: A rant from someone who clearly dislikes the work's entire genre, but for some reason felt the need to seek it out anyway.
  • Single-Issue Wonk: This is one of my 15 Dethroning Moment entries about examples of my Pet-Peeve Trope being used.
  • Writers Should Be Nicer: The writers made a one-off joke at the expense of the Butt-Monkey! This is unacceptable! How could they do that to the poor character?!
  • Mary Sue Police: My least favourite character succeeded at something or got a happy ending, even though he/she clearly didn't deserve it when the characters I do like failed! He/She is a total Creator's Pet and/or Canon Sue!
  • I H8 Scrappy: Thinly veiled rant against a character the troper hates, often with one moment singled out at the very end.
  • Obvious Impostor: Checking the page history will reveal that this entry was written by Some Other Troper trying to sneak in a 2nd moment by using someone else's handle.
  • Totally Not a Sock Puppet: Some Other Troper's 3rd moment.
  • Edit War: Example that contains multiple inaccuracies, and has been repeatedly deleted and restored by tropers who can’t agree if it’s bad enough to be zapped for being blatantly untrue.
  • Example that was deleted for being unsigned, even though the troper who deleted it could easily have added the author’s handle instead, and made no attempt to explain to the author what they did wrong.
  • General Complainer: I hate this general fact that happens in most if not all episodes. Just because things like "The fact that the main character makes too many blatant mistakes" or "There are too many Black Comedy jokes that aren't funny" encompass the entire work, it doesn't mean they don't count as a moment.
  • Not a Madman: Long rant about how this character was a Jerkass to that character that only makes sense if you are familiar with the work it's from. Otherwise, it comes off as either a Valley Girl ranting about her friends or a Valley Girl ranting about her demented hallucinations.
  • Short Attention Span: I liked this work until there was a Mind Screw moment or a Gainax Ending. That was confusing. I don't like confusing things.
  • Death Battle Fan: An example from DEATH BATTLE! that complains about how a Tropers' favorite character didn't win, even though such examples are banned due to all of the Flame Wars it caused.
  • Protesting the Nondescript: This particular moment in the show was absolutely disgusting and made me lose all of my respect for the show. I will not explain why. Tough luck if you haven't watched the show or if you don't understand what happened.
  • Tropers/Name: My troper handle only has one word in it, but I forgot to put {{curly brackets}} around it, so the link to my troper page won't appear or work, which will distract you from this example's actual content.
  • I Am the Redlink: Example from ye olde times when troper pages were on the Main namespace.
  • Polly-Anna: [Work Name] has a Downer Ending. I don't like sad things. Don't ask me why I watched the show to the end in the first place when it was obvious that it wasn't going to end well.
  • Negative Nelly: Something went right in [Work Name]? That must mean it's too saccharine and/or for babies.
  • Poorly-Disguised Recommendation: [Work Name] is an amazing experience. It's got a great soundtrack, stellar acting, compelling characters and fantastic plots. You should totally check it out. Also, the ending to episode 5 kind of sucks, so please skip it when you watch the series.
  • Still No Groupthink Here: An entry that was deleted by a devoted fan of [Work Name] for being "blatantly untrue", even though the "untrue" part was something subjective or a minor mistake that could easily be edited out or corrected.
  • Bad Memory: An example that's full of mistakes, but contains just enough correct information that you're reluctant to delete it for being untrue.
    • Stop Helping: Justifying Edit that doesn't really add anything other than correcting the mistakes.
  • Armchair Historian: This single minor inaccuracy or dramatization for the sake of the story means [Work Name] is not properly researched, and therefore unwatchable garbage.
    • What Was I Bashing Again: Complaint about a supposed inaccuracy in the work. Not that I bothered to do the research myself — I didn't even watch the damn show. Why subject myself to that when I can go straight to the fun complaining?
  • Science Snob: Complaint about an unrealistic aspect of the work, even though it contains plenty of unrealistic elements and clearly prioritizes being fun.
  • Copycat Accuser: This moment in [Work Name] is slightly similar to a moment in [Other Work], which proves that [Work Name] is just a bunch of unoriginal crap.
  • Still No Real Life Here: Rule-breaking complaint about executives "ruining" the work.
  • "Discreet" General Complainer: Rant about how much I hate the work in general... followed by three sentences nitpicking a specific moment so I can justify putting this entry on the DMoS page.
  • Still Not Real Life: Rant about something bad that happened behind the scenes.
  • EverythingMustBeTimeless: [Work Name] made a topical joke once.
  • Nitpicker: Example of a minor moment that slightly annoyed This Troper.
  • Less Than Cautious Editing Judgment: I hated when this work got political. Let me use this entry to complain about the ~woke media~ for a paragraph.
  • Holy Shit It's Just A TV Show Dude: [Work Name] offended me on such a personal level, I hope the author literally fucking dies.
  • Traumadump: Ermmm... as someone who (insert description of an unfortunate experience the writer went through that relates to the DMOS in question) this scene is not cool.
  • Angry Troper Nerd: A shit-heaping of goddamn swearing, often when it's completely fucking unnecessary. Bonus dick points if it calls someone a asshole or a bitch.
