A Teen Genius named Becky decides to run for student body president of her high school, thinking it would be common sense to vote for the smartest candidate. She soon learns the world doesn't work that way. Running against her are the Alpha Bitch Lizzy (who used to be best friends with Becky's sister), and The Quiet One Jenny. Who will win? What will they do to get there? Will anyone fall in love with anyone else on the way? What will they learn by the end?
This story provides examples of:
- Imaginary Love Triangle: Bobby and Jenny like each other, but both think Becky also likes Bobby. She doesn't.
- Love Triangle: One of these between Jessica, Lizzy and Kyle ended Jessica and Lizzy's friendship.
- All Elections Are Serious Business: Subverted: Becky thinks so, as does Jenny to an extent. They're the only ones, though.
- Smarter Than You Look: Mary. She talks like a valley girl and is somewhat boy crazy, and basically seems like just another popular-girl wannabe like Jessica. However, Mary is in various honors classes and wants to become a lawyer.
- Ineffectual Loner: Becky's lack of social skills and unpopularity prevent her from ever having a chance in the school election.
- Dork Horse Candidate: Becky, though she is very smart. She doesn't win, though—but neither does the person everyone expects to.
- I Should Write a Book About This: Becky is trying to write a book about high school from a genius's perspective. The whole thing starts because she realizes she can't have a book about high school without anything about student government (which she thinks of as having a lot more power than it actually does).
