Darth Wiki / Despair RP

Go To

Despair!RP is a Massively Multiplayer Crossover Discord fan-roleplay. Set in the world of Danganronpa, it stars characters from several media coming together to face multiple threats from various sources. It was originally part of the Dooronpa server, but later became its own server, owing to its Darker and Edgier tone, tons of characters and massive scale.

A sequel server, titled Hope!RP, eventually came into being, followed by Faith!RP, the latter of which is still in RP today.

As a general note, all spoilers have been left unmarked. You Have Been Warned.

  • An Arm and a Leg: Dark Ruby is quick to hack off Chihiro's left arm and feed it to a monster all because she loves the pained look he gives.
  • Arc Villain: Obviously.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Chihiro gets a chance to tell off Celeste for the asshole she's been. He doesn't disappoint.
  • Chronic Backstabbing Disorder: Ibuki switches teams basically every other arc.
  • The Corrupter: Dark Ruby tries to play this role, claiming she's bringing out the "true beasts" inside of people's souls. By extension, Junko played this role to her, as well.
  • Cutting Off the Branches: Certain roleplays are deeemed "canon" or "non-canon" to characters, as are parts of their canon. For example, Yang is from the Bunker timeline, but most of the Danganronpa characters have only their canons behind them, with a select few having unique backstories based on various roleplays the group has done.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: The roleplay was much darker in tone in its early days.
  • Face–Heel Turn/ Heel–Face Turn: Nearly EVERYONE at least considers these throughout the RP, and several characters switch sides multiple times.
  • Growing the Beard: Throughout the RP, characters become more complex, the scale of arcs is more understandable, and overall the story becomes more cohesive the longer the RP goes on.
  • Out of Focus: Most of the characters from the RP's first few months have fallen into obscurity or vanished. Of particular note are Nora and especially Dark Ruby, who were major player in the Ultimate Despair arc, but vanished from the plot entirely after that, and have since only been regarded as minor side characters.
  • Used to Be a Sweet Kid: Dark Ruby gets this on so many levels.
  • Villain Decay: Dark Ruby, again, suffers from this. Her attitude is steadily becoming less villainous, and her role diminishes further with every arc.
