Darkness Over Ikebukuro is an unpublished Durarara!! Fanfiction by CJ Croen 1393. More specifically, it's a very, very Dark Fic.
Set about five years after the series, Mikado has successfully merged all of the color gangs together, making the Dollars a ruthless, iron-fisted dictatorship, with him at the center, as the less than mentally stable leader. He forbids any member of the color gangs from leaving the city, has people killed on command if they try to dent his forces, and bends the rules to his own will, just to keep his best friends, Anri and Masaomi, both of whom he has fallen in love with, close to him...whether they want to be or not.
Fortunately, a resistance force, led by Celty Sturluson, Izaya Orihara and Shizuo Heiwajima has been created, and prepares to rise above Mikado's forces and overthrow him once and for all. But they learn that this might not be as easy as it looked...
Beware unmarked spoilers (not like this'll be published any time soon, though)
Tropes
- Anyone Can Die: Saki, Izumi, Earthworm, Horada, The Ganguros, Nasujima-sensei and the Niekawas in flashbacks. More will die in the present.
- Ax-Crazy: Aoba. Dear God, AOBA!
- Defector from Decadence: The Dotachin Gang and Simon.
- My Master, Right or Wrong: Anri.
- Sleep Cute: Izaya and Shinra, of all people, do this at one point. Celty even gives them a Comforting Comforter and comments that the two of them are "kind of cute when they're not running their mouths".
- Yandere: Mikado's motivation is the fact that he feels love for both Masaomi and Anri, but hate for them as well; hate toward Masaomi for lying to him and Anri for keeping secrets from him. He has seen what feelings like this do to people and refused to let it happen to him and his two lovers, so he repressed his feelings of hatred and made sure he only felt love.
- Team Mom: Celty.
- La RĂ©sistance: Led by Celty.
- Dark Fic
- Deadly Doctor: Shinra.
- OT3: Anri/Mikado/Masaomi and Mairu/Aoba/Kururi.
- Ron the Death Eater: Mikado. The author doesn't hate him but he's the Big Bad in the story nonetheless.

- Shizuo giving Vorona his sunglasses just before he leaves to fight Mikado.

- Sanity Slippage: Mikado.
- The Mole: Mikado tells Izaya that he planted a mole in the resistance. Izaya counters that he placed a mole in the Dollars. However...Celty: You planted a mole in the Dollars? When did you do this?Izaya: I didn't. It's a classic trick: Get the enemy paranoid, then wait until he lets his guard down...
- Break the Cutie: The years were not good to Shinra, who, due to five years of living in a post-apocalyptic trash heap, pretty much became Ikebukuro's version of The Medic.
- Masaomi, however, definitely got it worse. In the beginning, he was an energetic Casanova Wannabe. Later, he became rather jaded but still had that little spark because of his friends. Next, he begins to crack when his best friend-turned-lover murders his ex-girlfriend. Then, he becomes an even more jaded Love Martyr, who's only purpose is to make Mikado happy. By the time we see him in the story, he's lost even that and all willpower and drive to keep living are gone.
- Happily Married: Celty and Shinra.
- Manipulative Bastard: Izaya, naturally.
- Madness Mantra: Mikado. "I'm not insane...I'm not insane...I'm not insane...I'm not insane..."
- Ho Yay: Apart from the obvious, we have some of this between Kadota and Ryo.
- And Kadota and Saburo.
- Apparently, Izaya loves Shinra. In every way.
- Tear Jerker: Many.
- Empty Shell: Masaomi.Celty: Kida! What would killing me solve? I thought your purpose was to make Mikado happy!Masaomi: (with not one hint of emotion) I lost my purpose a long time ago.
- Cute and Psycho: Mikado, Mairu, Kururi and Aoba.
- Broken Bird: Anri.
- Love Makes You Evil and crazy: MIKADO
- With Great Power Comes Great Insanity: Mikado.
- Posthumous Character: Saki.
- Moment of Awesome: A lot.
- Took a Level in Badass: Many examples but the biggest would have to be Shinra plowing down Saika's children... ON CELTY'S MOTORCYCLE!
- Senseless Sacrifice: In a fit of paranoid rage, Mikado sends a wave of Saika's children into Izaya's office to kill him. But they only get some generic Nebula workers.
