If you were a fan of the Total Drama series during the late 2000s and early 2010s and also like reading fanfiction, then you've probably heard of this guy.

The Kobold Necromancer (formerly known as ComedyMagmar) was one of the big names in the Total Drama fandom and one of its most prolific fan writers, having created some of the most well-known fanfictions of the series. His most famous work is easily Total Drama Comeback, a second season made in 2008 (when the first season was still completing its run in the United States) that quickly became extremely popular with the fandom for being one of the first truly big and ambitious competition fics written to be fully completed and for the focus and development it gave to Ezekiel, the first contestant eliminated in the series and Kobold's favorite character. He has also written several other fanfictions for the Total Drama franchise, including Comeback's (unfinished) sequel Total Drama Battlegrounds, as well as a few fanfics for other series like the Danganronpa franchise.

Kobold is so prolific in the fanbase that his work has actually been given nods by Fresh TV in Total Drama proper. For instance, the second episode of the third season has Noah, Izzy, and Tyler having to complete a challenge featuring a goat, and the same trio falling asleep under a tree, which is an almost exact replica of a scene from Comeback, minus the blanket. And in the Celebrity Manhunt special, Blaineley outright states the contestants are making a "Total Drama Comeback". Similarly, the character of Shawn from the show's sixth season is rumored to be heavily based on Kobold himself due to sharing many of his traits (although he has denied this claim, albeit in a somewhat joking manner).

You can find his Fanfiction.net account here. He's also on Deviantart here. And in case you're wondering, he's fully aware of the existence of TV Tropes and has referenced it in some fashion several times in his writings.

Works by The Kobold Necromancer with their own pages

The Kobold Necromancer invokes the following tropes:

  • Author Appeal: Where do we begin?
  • Author Avatar / O.C. Stand-in: His depiction of Ezekiel has been accused of being this by some.
  • Crack Pairing: As mentioned above, he very frequently includes these.
  • Creator Thumbprint: Many of his fanfictions have similar tone, humor, and character depictions, with many familiar patterns popping up in his work, especially regarding his favorite characters.
    • His characterization of Ezekiel is almost iconic in the fanfiction community, depicting him as an innocent and timid Nice Guy with deep remorse for his sexist remarks that got him eliminated originally, significant Hidden Depths (such as being a Supreme Chef), Odd Friendships with Izzy and Tyler (characters he never canonically interacted with), and a habit of pulling his toque over his eyes when he's scared or embarrassed.
    • Harold is always portrayed as a major Nice Guy, taking his kind moments further and giving him a major Odd Friendship with Bridgettenote  that has frequent Ship Tease between them (even in stories where they're paired with different characters).
  • Creator's Favorite: Ezekiel, Bridgette, Izzy, Harold, Noah, Tyler, Cody, Gwen, Zoey, Dawn, Ella, Shawn, Kitty, Crimson, and MacArthur are his favorite characters. The first four in particular especially stand out given how they tend to feature prominently in his fanfiction.
  • Creator's Pest: Duncan (from World Tour onwards), Alejandro, and especially Chris McLean are his most despised characters. They frequently receive the short end of the stick in his works.
  • Die for Our Ship: As you can tell by his fondness for pairing Bridgette with far nerdier characters, Geoff tends to get the short end of the stick in his works (although never to the same extent as his despised characters).
  • Fan Art: A fan of The Kobold Necromancer commission a whole gallery folder of pictures of characters from his stories here.
  • Fix Fic:
    • Comeback was often seen as one for the second season of Total Drama following the negative reception its official second season Total Drama Action received.
    • Kobold himself is well-known for his immense hatred for the third season Total Drama World Tour, and a few of his works have focused on fixing what he sees as the season's biggest mistakes (especially eliminating Ezekiel first and mutating him into a monster).
  • Follow the Leader:
    • His work has inspired countless other Total Drama fanfiction writers, including other prominent authors like Winter Rae, Rufus T. Serenity, LordAkiyama, and TDI Charlie Brown.
    • His depiction of Ezekiel has been used to the death by other fanfiction writers as the basis for their interpretation of the character.
    • The last names that he gave the original 22 contestants in his fics have become reused by countless other fanfictions, such as "Summers" for Bridgette or "Kasuga" for Heather.
  • Give Geeks a Chance: A recurring theme in his work, with the show's less traditionally masculine boys like Cody, Harold, Noah, and Ezekiel often getting shipped with extremely attractive girls normally way out of their league, such as Lindsay, Bridgette, Gwen, and Heather.
  • Revenge Fic: His work occasionally contains elements of these, typically directed towards Chris McLean and Alejandro.
  • Ship Tease: Common in his works; if two characters he enjoys pairing together are instead paired with someone else or don't get together in the story, expect them to still be teased together a lot.
  • Spotlight-Stealing Squad: His work has been criticized for giving this status to Ezekiel, Bridgette, and Izzy whilst also ridiculing Owen and Duncan's positions as such in canon and making them Out of Focus.
