Rick Griffin is an American cartoonist and writer, whose work tends to cater to the Furry Fandom. His official website can be found here. He has also made contributions to This Very Wiki.

His work is not to be confused with that of Richard Alden 'Rick' Griffin, an American artist notable for his contributions to the underground comix movement.

Notable works set in the Hayven Celestia setting:

  • Ten Thousand Miles Up (novella)
  • Final Days of the White Flower II (expansion/rewrite of 10,000 Miles Up)
    • Book 1: Traitors, Thieves, and Liars
    • Book 2: The Captain's Oath
  • Skinchange (webcomic, posted on Rick's website.)

Other Notable Works by Rick Griffin:

Tropes appearing in Rick Griffin's works:

  • Author Avatar: A subtle example. Griffin is bisexual and uses a kangaroo as his avatar in Furry Fandom. Many kangaroo characters in his works are LGBT people (Housepets, A&H Club, Campus Avenue short story).
  • Half-Dressed Cartoon Animal: Except for those works where characters are completely naked.
  • No Nudity Taboo: Sometimes just a part of the setting (In The New Age), other times discussed and played with (What Happens on Campus Avenue, Farm Life).
  • Porn with Plot: Some of Griffin's works, such as What Happens on Campus Avenue and Farm Life, explore themes of identity and society as part of a complex narrative with fully realized characters... while also containing many explicit sex scenes.
  • Shout-Out: A lot in his works set in modern times.
  • Sliding Scale of Idealism vs. Cynicism: Tends to fall on the idealistic end. Even his most cynical works (such as Hayven Celestia) tend to show fundamentally decent people doing the best they can in bad situations.
  • World of Funny Animals: Most of Griffin's work takes place in settings populated exclusively by anthropomorphic animal characters.
