"I knew at a young age I was going to be an actor: acting has always been in my bones."

Michael Hugh Medwin, OBE, (18 July 1923 — 26 February 2020), was a British actor best known for playing Don Satchley in Shoestring.

He began acting in 1940, starting on stage. Over the years on the West End, he appeared in Duckers and Lovers, The Rivals, and What the Butler Saw.

Throughout The '50s and The '60s, he was a frequent face in British films, racking up appearances in The Intruder, Doctor at Sea, Doctor at Large, I Only Arsked!, Carry On Nurse, The Longest Day, I've Gotta Horse, and A Countess from Hong Kong. During this time, he also starred in the first two series of The Army Game (the series that spawned the aforementioned I Only Arsked!) as Corporal Springer.

In 1970, he played Scrooge's nephew, Harry, in Scrooge (1970). For the rest of The '70s, he was kept busy by producing films, which he had begun doing in the '60s, and in 1979, was cast as Don Satchley in Shoestring. In 1988, he and David Pugh formed David Pugh Limited, a theatrical production company.

He was appointed OBE in 2005 and died at the age of 96.
