The series had a low budget, and Super Gran's abilities were accordingly restricted. Her main abilities were super hearing, super speed, and the ability to jump very high.
The series was based on a series of children's books by Forrest Wilson.
Super Gran provides examples of:
- Adaptational Nationality: In the original books, Super Gran is a Scotswoman living in England, and the fact she talks in a dialect nobody else does is part of the characterisation. The series is set in Scotland though filmed on location in North East England and all other characters are made Scottish.
- Adaptational Villainy: In Forrest Wilson's books, the character Tub, while initially a somewhat reluctant henchman to Campbell, becomes a good guy in later books following a Heel–Face Turn. In the TV show, he is a Card-Carrying Villain who goes along with Campbell's plans unquestioningly.
- Animated Credits Opening: The opening titles were animated and recapped Super Gran's origin story.
- Bragging Theme Tune: The theme song is mostly about how awesome Super Gran is, including several lengthy sections listing other superheroes who apparently aren't as awesome.Stand back, Superman,
