Complacent Gaming Syndrome / Epic Seven

Go To

There are some strategies that are widespread in the Epic Seven fandom.

  • Commander Lorina is usually the prioritized Specialty Change Hero of many players because her questline is a long grind, with beginners starting it as soon as they get her to Level 50. If she's fully invested on and upgraded, she becomes a strong single-target DPS unit, making all the grind worth it. Fortunately, the game allows two Specialty Change questlines active at once, so players can take on other easier SC Heroes alongside Commander Lorina's.
  • Regardless of content, Speed is the most recommended set for a lot of Heroes, especially for beginners because the higher the speed, the more turns can a hero have. For DPS units, this means a higher damage output. For healers, this means more chances of healing the team. In PVP, the highest Speed also dictates which player can act first.
  • Combat Readiness instantly bumps the hero's turn and can take over the enemies' supposed turns. Supports with this mechanic are highly sought, like Tamarinne. The "Water's Origin" artifact is usually equipped on Healers/Soul Weavers like her to boost chances of survival after taking a significant amount of damage.
  • Critical Sets are commonly recommended because the Critical Hit mechanics provide a percentage-based boost to damage.
  • Heroes who can inflict status ailments are usually equipped with Hit sets, boosting their Effectiveness stat to have a higher chance of successfully applying those ailments.
  • A Speed Set can be combined with Critical or Hit Sets on a single hero. These three sets are all farmable or craftable from the Wyvern Hunts. Because these hunts are the most commonly-played stages for beginners and veterans alike, the game gets called "Wyvern Simulator". When it comes to team-building, it's also common to prioritize Ice-elemental Heroes and equip them with the strongest items since they have an innate elemental advantage over the Fire-elemental Wyverns.
  • The Banshee is perhaps the second most popular Hunt because it gives the Destruction Set that boosts Critical Hit Damage (thus giving a huge boost to DPS). This too can be paired with the Critical set for more chances of landing criticals.
  • Game-Breaker units or strategies get overused because they are just that strong.
  • In the PVP metagame, it's common to expect counters against a popular Game-Breaker or a character who's strong at their niche. Any counter strategies/teams that are proven successful by the veterans get emulated or copied by the early- to mid-game players.
  • "Cleavers" are highly used when Level Grinding for EXP and fodders since their Area of Effect attacks save so much time and a party slot than single-target units. Vildred is the most popular friend support because his three skills are all AoE attacks that mostly scale with Speed, making him perfect for the Speed-Critical meta.
  • Cleavers are also dominant in the Automaton Tower since their AoE attacks are so time-efficient and the enemies there mostly have low HP anyway.
  • Popular Artifact choices are the following:
    • Daydream Joker for PVE content because its percentage-based bonus damage is good at shredding bosses with huge amounts of HP.
    • DPS Thief builds have Artifacts that increase their attack, critical chance, speed, combat readiness, or outright give an extra turn. Some of these include "Rhianna and Luciella", "Alexa's Basket", and "Moonlight Dreamblade".
    • Expect most cleavers to be equipped with the farmable Guilty Gear event-exclusive Artifact, "Portrait of the Saviors", as it increases the damage dealt to enemies with at least 50% health.
    • Heroes are oftentimes equipped with their matching Artifacts because those are seen to be direct complements to their skills. For example, Reingar's Special Drink is a staple for Seaside Bellona.
  • For certain PVP defense teams and Guild Wars defense teams:
    • The Immunity set is tailored to PVP content and virtually sees no use in PVE. It's also generally preferred over the Resist set because it's better to prevent debuffs from landing in the first place than to rely on RNG.
    • Certain tanks and bruisers would want a Counter set obtained from Banshee hunts, especially tanks who can Provoke enemies (i.e. Fallen Cecilia and Fighter Maya), bruisers who have a strong basic attack effect (i.e. Charles, Ravi, Apocalyptic Ravi, Ken), or even certain Soul Weavers that can punish the player attacking them (i.e. Elena and Destina).
  • In high level World Arena, Lightning Bruiser characters are generally preferred over Glass Cannon characters for main damage dealers (especially if the said Glass Cannon character is equipped with an Attack/Critical or Destruction/Critical set). This is generally because a lot of Glass Cannon characters will often require a lot of good babysitting (such as strong revivers like Maid Chloe and Ruele) in order for them to deal damage to the enemy team (not to mention, they are often the first priority targets to be eliminated), while Lightning Bruiser characters have a good mixture of offensive and defensive stats that allows them be a constant threat to the enemy team should the match lasts for a long time. The only Glass Cannon characters that manage to avoid this are Remanent Violet, Mirsa, Arbiter Vildred, Kayron, Tempest Surin, and Specter Tenebria; but this is because the former two have strong evade mechanics that allows them to get away building Glass Cannon (preferably speed set), while the later four have strong and powerful passives that allows them to stay in the field longer to make up for it.
  • Equipment is mostly just enhanced up to +9 as a deciding factor. If the item has undesirable substats at the +9 threshold, it's seen as a low-priority gear since any further enhancements are very costly in terms of EXP and Gold. Otherwise, there's nothing much to worry about when upgrading it further the last 6 levels.
