The Evil Within is a comic book written by Ian Edginton and published by Titan Comics, that acts a Prequel to The Evil Within video game.

The comic follows examples Dana Robinson who is searching for her best friend Kate Mellor, who disappeared six months beforehand. While driving to Pine Lakes on the West Coast when her car runs out of fuel, and she is unable to get any phone signal. After exploring and finding a abandoned diner, Dana bumps into Paul Carey, and then things quickly go to hell.

The Evil Within comic books provides examples of:

  • All for Nothing: Dana destroys the construct to stop Ruvik, but this tropes applies if Ruvik was successful in possessing Leslie's body.
  • The Cameo: Ruvik appears in Dana's flashbacks, although he doesn't interact with anyone. This is a sign that Dana is in the STEM system. He also appears for a second right at the start while Dana is in the diner, and at the end after Dana kills herself to destroy the construct.
    • Tatiana makes a very brief appearance when Dana somehow appears in the Safe Haven while being chased by a group of Haunted, telling her that she knows what the Safe Haven is, after which Dana suddenly appears in front of a mirror.
  • Cell Phones Are Useless: Dana's cell phone can't get a signal after her car runs out of fuel. This is because Dana is already in the STEM machine.
  • Damsel in Distress/Distressed Dude: Justified, as Dana, Paul, Ruth and Jack are unarmed civilians, whereas Sebastian was an experience and armed detective.
  • Dead All Along: Ruvik killed Kate after having her kidnapped.
  • Eldritch Location: The events of the comic take place inside the STEM system.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Paul sacrifices himself by uncoupling a train cart to stop the Haunted from killing Dana.
  • Lighter and Softer: The comic contains a lot less gore and it's plot is a lot less depressing, partly because Dana and her comrades are unarmed civilians and partly because Ruvik isn't interested in killing Dana.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: Dana destroys the construct, however this kills her and doesn't stop Ruvik from trying to escape.
  • Reality Is Out to Lunch: Downplayed compared to the main game, but a lot of impossible things happen.
