Comic Book / Soulfire

A Science Fantasy comic book series written by Michael Turner and previously published by Top Cow Productions (now done by Aspen MLT, the same as Fathom). The story is centered around the idea of magic being gone from the world. The story follows a boy named Malikai and a ragtag team of magical beings and cyborgs. Malikai's quest as the chosen one is to bring magic back to the hardened future of (2211 AD) and stop it from being used by evil.

Soulfire provides examples of;

• An Arm and a Leg: Ohh boy...
  • Rainier, the Big Bad, lost both arms and legs in the past, and uses mechanical prothesis to go around. He's able to restore his missing limbs and wings with a massive infusion of magic.
  • Benoist also lost both arms in the past. Like Rainier, he also wears mechanical limbs as substitutes.
  • PJ also loses an arm during the climatic battle of the first book.
• Big Brother Instinct: Malikai's best friend, PJ, has been very protective of him for as long as they've known each other.

• The Chosen One: Malikai is the "Samusara," a being destined to restore magic to the world.
• Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: PJ is content with being the comic relief, but isn't afraid to kick ass when he has to.
• Expressive Hair: Sonia's hair color changes in correlation to her emotional state.
• Hidden Elf Village: The Everlands is a safe haven for magical beings.

• The Magic Goes Away: Magic used to exist in the past, before it declined until disappearing completely. The aptly titled "Dying of the Light" prequel book shows the last days of magic before it vanished completely, the last panel being Grace's wings shattering.

• Past-Life Memories: Malikai occasionally has brief glimpses into his past lives.
• Power Gives You Wings: Those who can use magic will grow wings on their back.
• Reincarnation: Malikai is the latest incarnation of the Samusara.
