Occupy Avengers is a 2016 comic book series from Marvel Comics. It's written by David F. Walker and illustrated by Carlos Pacheco and Rafael Fonteriz, with color art by Sonia Oback.

The series, set in the shared Marvel Universe, is part of the wider Avengers line. Following on from the events of the Civil War II arc, Hawkeye is drifting across America. After being forced to kill the Hulk, he's now being hailed as a hero by the general public but ostracised by his fellow superheroes. He's not wearing a costume, but people keep recognising him. He still has his bow, too - and he tries to do a little good where he can.

As often happens, his efforts to help out are about to spiral into something much bigger.

Occupy Avengers provides examples of:

  • Bolivian Army Ending: The series ends with a Secret Empire tie-in, in which everyone except Hawkeye is fighting an overwhelming force of Hydra troops. Despite a claim that it'll be resolved in the main Secret Empire comic, the Occupy Avengers characters are never seen again, and as of 2022 their fate remains unclear.
  • Crossover Finale: The last two issues are part of Secret Empire, a Crisis Crossover event, and the final issue's cliffhanger ending claims that the story is continued in that series. That's true for Hawkeye, but there's no mention of the other characters (and, as of August 2022, some have never appeared again), leaving them with a Bolivian Army Ending.
  • If You Kill Him, You Will Be Just Like Him!: The new Nighthawk is told not to kill the HYDRA soldiers because she'll go down that path. She throws is back, claiming that it's war and if they aren't stopped here and now, more will just come.
  • Killed Offscreen: The Kyle Richmond from Earth 31916, who survived that universe's destruction and crossed over into the main Marvel universe, is said to have been killed offscreen by Hydra.
  • Legacy Character: After the original Nighthawk is killed by Hydra his associate Nightshade takes over the role.
  • Ridiculously Human Robots: Nick Fury, Dum Dum Dugan and Gabe Jones are all 1980s Life Model Decoys, not the real S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. In true Actually a Doombot style, they're not quite as capable as the originals, so they're all destroyed by the end of the story.
  • Taking Up the Mantle: After Nighthawk dies - in Occupy Avengers #8. Deadly Nightshade takes on his mantle.
  • Tempting Fate: The farmer mouthing off to Hydra doesn't get saved by a hero or even get a chance to deliver some pithy one-liners. He's just quickly executed.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Mr. Beckar doesn't recognise the guy who's started snooping around the Sweet Medicine reservation, but he thinks he knows the type. He's got "that annoying Doctors Without Borders or Greenpeace look about him", so Beckar sends some armed thugs after him. The guy in question is an out-of-costume Hawkeye, and things immediately go very badly for Beckar and his team.
  • Your Approval Fills Me with Shame: Hawkeye's very uncomfortable when he's recognised and congratulated for killing the Hulk. Bruce Banner was his friend, and he doesn't view the Hulk as a villain.
