Mark

"People actually DO stuff like this?"

A relatively ordinary guy still coming to terms with his geekiness. He plays the following characters: Krag, a half-orc barbarian (Dungeons & Dragons), Aeon, a human street samurai (Shadowrun), Allen, a newly-embraced vampire (Masquerade and Requiem mishmash), Finds-The-Way, of the Children of Gaia (Werewolf: The Apocalypse), and "Puppy" (sometimes called Rover), a Beastkin Truefriend (Changeling: The Lost).

  • Abusive Parents: Implies strongly that his father is a stereotypical 'men's man' who would yell at him for playing with toys instead of playing sports, and fears if he found out about his geeky hobbies he would disown him.
  • Accidental Hero: As his Werewolf character, Finds-The-Way. A series of bad decisions (not all of them his) leads to him running around screaming on fire with a bucket over his head, accidentally disrupting a ritual that was keeping the pack's biggest enemy in the game.
  • All Animals Are Dogs: "Puppy" is a Beastkin, which is a type of changeling who took on traits of animals when in Arcadia, and furthermore a Truefriend, Beastkin who became like dogs and other animals known for their loyalty. Mark plays Puppy as being an excitable family dog, eager to play chase and make friends.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: He's rather easily distracted.
  • Audience Surrogate: The most normal of the group, and the one who's being introduced to all the new games.
    • His vampire character Allen is this, too. As a new vampire, he needs to be introduced (along with the audience) to vampire society.
  • Back from the Dead: Krag, after he has fallen in battle, is resurrected by elves; Joel has offered him this way out because he's seen how much the character means to Mark.
  • Badass Normal: During the Hunter attack on the convention. Mark couldn't turn into his Weregeek form at will, but that didn't stop him from grabbing a foam Minecraft sword and fighting alongside his fellow geeks.
  • Born Unlucky: At least when it comes to dice rolls, Mark has notoriously bad luck — so bad that, according to him, he breaks the mathematical laws of probability.
  • Cannot Tell Fiction from Reality: A mild case, but Mark has a powerful imagination and sometimes has problems breaking out of the Deep-Immersion Gaming mindset. Until it turned out he was faking it to mess with Joel.
  • Closet Geek: Likes to try to pretend that he isn't into the geeks' hobbies, and hides his geekiness from all his non-geek friends. It turns out that it isn't benefiting his mental health; his therapist advises him to be more open about it, in order to let go of his shame and confusion.
    Mark: I... I'm not a geek!
    Joel + Ned: Riiiiight.
  • Corner of Woe: As Katie points out, when Mark is sulking, he can "out-goth" a single goth on Valentine's day.
  • Fanboy: Apart from Mark's geekdom, his character Allen is this, leading him to Squee in excitement when his sire quotes Star Wars.
  • Foreshadowing: Mark's character in the Changeling LARP is a dog-themed Beast Truefriend, emblematic of loyalty and devotion, who joins the Summer Court, which is known for violence and anger. He goes on to get into a polyamorous relationship without really understanding what one is, then completely losing his temper to jealousy when the relationship adds a new member.
  • Giver of Lame Names: What's Allen's name for his strategy of seeming clueless so people underestimate him? 'Survival of the Stupidest'.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Suffers a more quiet, melancholic jealousy when he sees Sarah with Hadeed, but in regards to Ravenia, it gets much worse, showing that Mark really is not cut-out for dealing with a polyamorous relationship.
  • Grew a Spine: Allen does so, and Talon approves.
  • Guile Hero: Does this during the Hunter attack on the convention, as he can't activate his Weregeek powers.
  • Inner Monologue: Aeon is prone to these, and he doesn't like it when someone disturbs his flair of drama.
  • Insult Backfire: When he buys his new costume for the Vampire LARP; you can't really insult a geek with a comparison like that:
    Mark: What do you think?
Jess: *less than thrilled* ...it's... well... er... you look kinda...
Clerk: Like a gay Doctor Who.
    Mark: Perfect!
  • Jock Dad, Nerd Son: When in therapy he is asked who the last person he would want to tell about his geeky hobbies is, he says that would be his father, and we see an image of his father holding a baseball while yelling at younger Mark for playing with Star Wars figures.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Puppy has dog ears, a dog nose, dog legs, and a dog tail.
  • Love Potion: Allen found Priscilla "downright scary" before she had him blood-bound.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: As Allen, though while not as stupid as everyone believes, he actually is a bit of a Brainless Beauty, too.
  • On the Rebound: He leaps rather easily into a new relationship with Ravena after Jess has broken up with him, and it's clearly burdened by issues Mark still carries around with him from the past.
  • Puppy-Dog Eyes: Has a talent for this; it's why Abbie advises him to play a Truefriend.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Reaches it during a Changeling LARP as a result of an ill-advised, dysfunctional relationship and personal insecurity problems he hasn't come to terms with. Him lashing out on a bystander gets him banned from Changeling.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: He doesn't take much of an issue when Ravenia puts some make-up on him.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl: When he's caught off-guard.
  • Talking the Monster to Death: How he defeats Murdock: He points out that geeks are so ubiquitous that they've pretty much gone mainstream.
  • Token Good Teammate: Allen is much nicer than the rest of the vampires.
  • Troubled Fetal Position: During his first Vampire LARP; he was in panic because Joel hadn't told him what's going on.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Krag is terrified of snakes, and doesn't take well to fighting an entire tribe of snake people.

Sarah

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sarah_2.jpg
"I know vampires are kind of passe right now, but... OH! True Blood is on!!"

A shy, soft-spoken geek who's a fan of LARP, vampires, and romance. She plays the following characters: An unnamed human wizard (Dungeons and Dragons), Solace (Shadowrun), Lady Priscilla (Vampire) Listens-To-Birds (Werewolf: The Apocalypse), and Woe, a darkling palewraith (Changeling: The Lost).

  • Action Girl: Tends to play these. One way Woe is against type for her is that she's a sneaky character rather than a fighty one.
  • Berserk Button: Making a crime and travesty out of Lord of the Rings.
  • Blank White Eyes: As her Vampire character, Priscilla.
  • Casting a Shadow: Priscilla is a Lasombra, and has their Obtenebration discipline.
  • Character Death: Happened to her Werewolf character, Listens-To-Birds.
  • Guilty Pleasure: Twilight.
  • Mean Character, Nice Actor: Priscilla, her Vampire character, is intimidating and ruthless, while Sarah is soft-spoken and kind. This applies to a lesser extent to Woe, who while not evil is grouchy and anti-social.
  • Nice Girl: Perfectly sweet.
  • Playing Against Type: Her Changeling character, Woe, is very different from the character type she normally plays.
  • Prehensile Hair: As Priscilla.
  • Sacrificial Lamb: Listens-To-Birds. Her death causes the other werewolves to proclaim that now It's Personal.
  • Shrinking Violet: Rather shy. Exaggerated when she attends a writing workshop headed by a writer she admires.
  • Stringy-Haired Ghost Girl: Woe isn't a ghost (she's a palewraith, a Darkling kith based on being the creepy specters that haunt dark places), but definitely fits the aesthetic.
  • Team Mom: Not always apparent, especially next to the more authoritative Katie, but Sarah acts as the comforting, level-headed medium between the others. She's also trained in first aid and is a far better cook than anyone else in the party. She's even called "The Mom-Friend" by the author.
  • Tsundere: Type B. She's normally shy and sweet, but she's got a nasty temper and is a terror when angered.
  • The Vamp: Fittingly enough, her Vampire character, Priscilla, is this.

Dustin

"Adventure? Excitement?! A Jedi TOTALLY craves these things!"

Dustin is a sci-fi geek, and a fan of both Star Trek and Star Wars. He's a rather sensitive guy, and loves playing games with his friends. He's currently in a relationship with Ravenia, a girl who he met at a goth club and got interested in their Vampire LARP. He plays the following characters: A human paladin (Dungeons and Dragons), a troll (Shadowrun), Joseph Mathers, a vampire baron (Vampire), and Howling Fury, a werewolf pack leader (Werewolf: The Apocalypse).

  • Big Fun: Described as "the stereotypical 'big lovable guy'".
  • Cargo Ship: Between his D&D paladin and his armor.
  • Character Death: Mathers is killed in the Vampire game. Since the death was the result of a questionable decision by Wayne (the other guy asked Wayne if he could tear out his eyes to get past Mathers' use of Majesty because his character was insane, and Wayne allowed it because the guy had derangements), Dustin takes it pretty hard.
  • Nice Guy: Oh yes.
  • Non-Action Guy: Mathers is a politician, not a fighter. It's why he has Priscilla in his service. But when pressed, his Majesty discipline makes him very hard to attack.
  • Last-Name Basis: As his vampire character. It went unrevealed for a long while that Mathers' first name is Joseph.
  • Random Number God: He has some very strange dice rituals to appease the RNG.
  • Undying Loyalty: He's a very loyal fellow.
  • Wicked Cultured: As his Vampire character, Mathers.

Abbie

From Weregeek's outdated cast page: "Abbie is a total fangirl. She loves her comic books, and dreams of drawing her own one day. She’s the most athletic of the group, which isn’t surprising, considering that she’s always running around like a ferret on Jolt Cola. A friend of Sarah’s since high-school drama class, she always considered Sarah’s weekly D&D game too geeky for her until she found out that she could play an elven ninja, and has been hooked ever since."

She plays an unnamed elven ninja (Dungeons and Dragons), Twitch (Shadowrun) Talon (Vampire), a Bone Gnawer probably named Hangs-Around-Streetcorners (Werewolf: The Apocalypse) and a Will-o-the-Wisp/Bright One named Ember (Changeling LARP).

  • Anti-Hero: Talon has fairly heroic motives, as vampires go (her faction wishes to peacefully integrate vampires and humans), and tends to be on the "good" side (scare quotes intentional; it is a Vampire game after all), but she's still a ruthless plotter.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: Her changeling character build is noted as being rather impractical, but she likes it anyway because it means she gets to be a fairy and have wings and be all sparkly and shiny.
  • Blood Knight: Her changeling character is in the Summer Court, who feed off wrath. Abbie finds playing her exciting.
  • Character Death: Abbie's elf ninja sacrifices herself to steal the gem powering the Yuan-ti's ritual and save the elven homelands. She's disappointed when she hears that the elves are willing to resurrect her because she feels it makes the sacrifice less awesome; Joel gives her an out with a visitation from an elven goddess, revealing that she doesn't have to accept the resurrection. She passes on to find out "what comes next."
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Twitch.
  • Genki Girl: The cast page describes her as 'always running around like a ferret on Jolt Cola'.
  • Not Me This Time: Talon is framed for an assault on another vampire.
  • Playing with Fire: Abbie's Changeling character is a Fairest fire-spirit and has Contract of the Elements: Fire.
  • Pyromaniac: Twitch loves blowing stuff up.
  • Screw You, Elves!: Her D&D character has a very low opinion of her own race.

Joel

The group's GM for the D&D campaign. He's played the following characters: Myers the Hermetic Mage (Shadowrun), Prince Demetrius (Vampire LARP), Cracks-The-Code, a Glasswalker (Werewolf: The Apocalypse), and a Autumn Court Fairest Shadowsoul.

  • Brutal Honesty: Joel doesn't mince words; if you've screwed up, he'll make sure you know that he knows it. But on the flip side, if something needs to be said for the sake of your health, he won't hesitate to ask the difficult questions either.
  • Character Death: Demetrius is killed by an underling.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Demetrius really does care for Allen.
  • Guile Hero: Loves playing these.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Joel is cynical, snarky, manipulative, grumpy; Mark even says outright to his therapist that Joel is a jerk. But he's also fiercely loyal to his friends and will stand by them no matter how much he grumbles about it. His relationship with Steph has also mellowed him out considerably.
  • Killer Game Master: Played with. Joel is a challenging, though ultimately fair Dungeon Master, but he loves to play up his status just to mess with the players' heads and keep them on their toes. Once the group gets wise to this trick, it does make his sincere warnings about potential character death less intimidating, right up until their characters get into genuine danger.
  • Manipulative Bastard: He's the group's DM, after all.
  • Neat Freak: Joel can go weeks without cleaning his apartment (or himself) if he's absorbed in a game, usually World of Warcraft. But once he snaps out of it, his OCD refocuses and he goes all out on scrubbing. He once polished his bathroom to such an extent that it blinded anyone who opened the door. Joel also gets Mark to scrub his own bathroom to keep him from overthinking during his bout of depression, but also because it was apparently a "biohazard."
  • No, You: Joel's go-to response whenever he's caught in a logical fallacy or bald-faced lie is a preemptive "No, you shut up."
  • Playing Against Type: Most of Joel's characters are high-status plotters, but his Changeling character is average-status and part of a romance. Of course, when Katie lampshades this, Joel implies he's plotting something.
  • Poor Communication Kills: An unfortunate side-effect of being the group's DM — he's in the habit of giving out no more information than absolutely necessary.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: He and Jodi know each other since grade school, and are bickering whenever they are in the same room.

Wayne

The GM for the Shadowrun Game. Also the Main Storyteller for the Vampire LARP.

Talking Guy

A guy that takes a lot. His name is Steven, much to Abbie and Mark's surprise. Has recently moved in with Dustin.

Played: Snickers (Vampire LARP), Escaped Changeling (Changeling LARP) & an unknown Werewolf (the Werewolf LARP)
