The Schnee Family
Siegfried Schnee
Weiss' father and the CEO of the Schnee Dust Corporation.- Abusive Parents: Actually averted in a RWBY fanfic for once. Most fanfics depict Weiss' father as an abusive or overly-controlling man, but Siegfried, well.... is very very different.
- Badass Bookworm: Need we remind you that he is also a CEO of one of the biggest companies in the Reactsverse?
- Beware the Nice Ones: He has one of the nicest portrayals of Weiss' father in any fanfic featuring him. He also usurped his father when he made the mistake of abusing Weiss.
- Bash Brothers: With Andreas and Alexander.
- Boisterous Bruiser: Then again, considering who he hangs out with....
- Doting Parent: While Weiss is sometimes embarrassed of him, she truly loves him and there's a reason why.
- The Dragonslayer: His weapon Balmung is called this and he literally slew a dragon Grimm. Called Fafnir.
- Genius Bruiser: He IS the CEO of the Schnee Dust Company.
- O.C. Stand-in: For Weiss' dad.
- Papa Wolf: Oh, most definitely. The main reason he usurped his father as CEO was because he abused Weiss and forced his wife away from him.
- Roaring Rampage of Revenge: What he did to his father after he abused Weiss. Crosses over with Roaring Rampage of Rescue.
- Shipper on Deck: For Ruby and Weiss. Weiss is unamused.
Freya Schnee
Weiss' mother and a Vytalian J-pop idol.- Happily Married: To Siegfried.
- Idol Singer: From what little is known about her.
- Parental Abandonment: Enforced by Weiss' grandfather. Siegfried did not take this well. Subverted as of chapter 69 of volume 1.
- O.C. Stand-in: For Weiss' mom.
- Older Than They Look: Despite being Weiss' mother, she looks young enough to be compared with Rise and Chieri.
- Second Love: To Siegfried, after Chieri.
Siegmund Schnee
Weiss' grandfather, and an as-of yet unseen character that nonetheless has had an effect on the Reactsverse. As of chapter 44 of volume 2, he has definitely had an effect upon the Reactsverse.- Abusive Parents:
- What he was to Weiss. This, combined with forcing Freya to leave Siegfried, did not have a good effect upon Weiss' father.
- He was also this to Siegfried.
- Animal Motifs: Dragons and serpents.
- Big Bad: As far as the Reactsverse can have one anyway. He is the reason Weiss had a terrible childhood and the reason her mother had to leave her. And that's not the only thing he's responsible for....
- The Corrupter: Deliberately goaded Cinder into joining the White Fang and pulling a Face–Heel Turn, both For the Evulz and for profiting off the subsequent fighting.
- Evil Old Folks: He is Weiss' grandfather, after all, and he kept up with the likes of Siegfried and Raven. He even manages to withstand four Finishing Moves and still has enough clout to go up against all of the parents of team RWBY despite knowing full well he will lose. The reputation for badassery is not unearned.
- Fantastic Racism: Is definitely a racist to Faunus. The way he treats Adam and Faunus in general confirms this.
- For the Evulz: The reason he turned Cinder evil.
- The Ghost: He has yet to show up in any Reactsverse fics. As of the Cockerel Festival, he is this no longer.
- I Have Your Wife:
- He uses this tactic to force Adam to help him, only with his sister instead of his wife.
- He used this multiple times on Siegfried. The last one was with Weiss. Guess how that ended.
- Jerkass: Despite having absolutely no part in the Reactsverse present, he still manages to come off as this. To count: He abused Weiss when she was a child; He forced Siegfried, his own son, to cut off links with all of his friends and his wife; He is the main reason the Faunus hate- or at least used to hate- the Schnee Dust Corporation. And he plans to kill Weiss.
- Playing with Fire: His Semblance, furthering his dragon motif.
- Social Darwinist: The philosophy he lives by, Kraft Macht Frei (Power will set you free) is essentially this, as well as his excuse for his Fantastic Racism- he views the Faunus as weak.
- Vile Villain, Saccharine Show: Weiss Reacts is a Slice of Life verse focused around shenanigans and shipping. Siegmund is a villain more fitted to Dark Fic than Slice of Life, considering what he's done.
- Would Hurt a Child: His own son, Winter, Weiss, team RWBY....
Other Relatives
Alexander Arc
Jaune's uncle and a CEO of an as-of-yet unnamed company.- Bash Brothers: With Andreas and Siegfried.
- Canon Immigrant: He and Gretchen Faust originate from a different fanfic based on Weiss Reacts written by a different author.
- Dynamic Entry: Running Gag in 'Diary of Glynda Goodwitch'- he often enters scenes with his chariot, drawn by Beowolves.
- Fluffy Tamer: He tames Beowolves to serve as his stead.
Andreas Arc
Jaune's father. Secretly the reincarnated Kamina of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann fame.- Actually, I Am Him: When Blake catches out his lie about not being Kamina.
- Back from the Dead: He voluntarily left the afterlife. Why? He was bored of being dead.
- Bash Brothers: With Alexander and Siegfried.
- Boisterous Bruiser: What did you expect? It's Kamina.
- The Casanova: Well, enough that he can seduce Death, at any rate, into letting him go free.
- I Just Want to Be Normal: His motivation for not revealing his real identity.
- Large Ham: He's freaking Kamina. What did you expect?
- Meaningful Name: Andreas' linguistic root is a word for 'man'. If you think about it, its pretty obvious why Kamina would get a name like that.
- O.C. Stand-in: For Jaune's dad. Only not really.
The Arc Family
Jaune's aunts and uncles.- Animal Motifs: A fox for Reynard, a lion for Aria.
- Meaningful Name: Reynard is a Loveable Rogue, Azur has navy blue hair and Cota is based off the French word for 'near'.
- This Is a Drill: Azur's weapon of choice.
Anton Arc
Jaune's grandfather.- The MĂĽnchausen: Loves telling tall tales.
Ysengrim Belladonna
Blake's father.- Animal Motifs: A wolf.
- Troll: Is one of the participants in the Antic War of Glynda's generation. To be in an Antic War practically requires this.
Demeter Rose
Ruby and Yang's grandmother through Summer.- Ambiguously Evil: She seems nice enough, but her need to acquire whatever's in Professor Faust's basement- something so potentially dangerous the Antic Order has entrusted it to Ozpin and Beacon to protect- reaches to the extent she's willing to pull every possible means short of actually attacking Professor Albus for it.
- Famed In-Story: Weiss is in disbelief that Yang of all people is related to her by marriage.
- Last Episode, New Character: Only shows up at the end of the Harvest Festival Arc.
- Never Mess with Granny: Is mentioned to be an absolute legend of a Huntress, to the point that Weiss doesn't believe Ruby and Yang are her grandchildren. It's heavily implied she's badass enough that Ozpin is afraid of her and isn't sure that anyone can stop Demeter.
- Older Than They Look: Demeter is somewhere in her early-to-late 50s, but looks similar in age to her daughter Summer.
- Strong Family Resemblance: She resembles Summer, who resembles Ruby.
Lia Nikos
Pyrrha's mother. For tropes relating to her appearance in The Diary of Glynda Goodwitch, please read that page.- Deadpan Snarker: Retains this trait from her adolescence.
- The Fake Cutie: Makes herself seem like The Ditz, calling her daughter 'Pyr-Pyr' and acting like an airhead. The moment Pyrrha leaves earshot, however, she immediately changes tack and shows her darker side, much to Weiss and Jaune's chagrin.
- Generation Xerox: Yang even lampshades that both Nikos women seem to be ridiculously attractive, to the extent of looking alike. And like her duaghter, Lia has a hidden nasty side to her personality, much to Jaune's chagrin.
- Mama Bear: Threatens to outright castrate Jaune if he ever harms Pyrrha. Not to mention her implicit involvement in the Awakening Initiative, one of the results of it being her daughter's canonical death being averted.
- Mum Looks Like a Sister: Looks almost exactly like her daughter, with the only difference being her blue hair and the fact that Pyrrha is actually taller.
- Older Than They Look: Looks almost exactly like her daughter Pyrrha. Keep in mind that her daughter is barely out of adolescence, while Lia has to be in her early 40s at the very least.
- Only Sane Man: Comes off as this, compared to Siegfried, Andreas and Taiyang.
- Took a Level in Kindness: Is far nicer, possibly due to being a parent and having become Older and Wiser. She, however, still maintains some Jerkass traits and still has the ability to snap at people when necessary.
Other Characters
Emerald Sustrai
- Companion Cube: Her Cinder plushie.
- Head-Turning Beauty: Has this effect on Fionn and Fox.
- Idol Singer: Is part of a duo with Mercury.
Mercury Black
- Idol Singer: Part of a duo with Emerald.
- Only Sane Man: Out of Emerald and Neo.
- Straight Man: Acts at this to Cinder.
Neo
The manager of Madrigal, Emerald and Mercury's pop singer duo.- Cute Mute: Doesn't speak a word, instead using a tablet to communicate.
- Stalker Shrine: Owns one to Emerald.
Raven Branwen
A wandering Huntress searching for a Worthy Opponent. First seen in the Winter Animecon.- Ascended Extra: Her Dust katana, which is named 'Caladbolg' here.
- Lightning Bruiser: As opposed to Adam. She's slower, but her abilities and techniques hit much harder.
- Thinking Up Portals: Her Semblance as in canon, and also part of her Blade Spam technique.
- Worthy Opponent: Is deliberately searching for these- so far, only Tukson, Ozpin, Siegmund Schnee and Gretchen Faust have been said to be able to fight her on equal terms. Adam quickly proves himself to be this.
Adam Taurus
An ex-member of the White Fang, current musician and Master Swordsman. First seen in the Winter Animecon.- Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: Implied; he doesn't seem to care if innocents are getting in the way of a duel, which Raven disapproves of.
- Adaptational Heroism: While he's still a jerk, Adam is far nicer than his canon counterpart. For one, he has a Morality Pet in Misaka, and was willing to work with Ozpin and Blake to take down Siegmund.
- The Dragon: To Siegmund Schnee. He does NOT like it.
- Heel–Face Turn: Presumably at the end of the Cockerel Festival.
- Jerkass: See Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Despite this, he still cares enough about his sister to side with Ozpin the moment Ozpin offers his sister protection from Siegmund.
- Iaijutsu Practitioner: As in canon, but it is taken up a notch here, where he uses quickdraws to counter five stabs from all directions at the same time.
- Master Swordsman: He essentially counters the Tsubame Gaeshi with a quickdraw from his sword.
- Morality Pet: His sister and the aforementioned Misaka.
- Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: With Siegmund Schnee. He turns on him the first moment he gets.
- Took a Level in Badass: If Blake is anything to go by.
- Worthy Opponent: Raven sees him as this. Blake just sees him as a joke.
Slen D. Man
The Slender Man himself, who apparently lives in the forests of Vale.- Big Damn Heroes: Saves Weiss and Jaune from being abducted by their yandere admirers.
- The Cameo: Only shows up off screen.....until Part 4, where he saves Weiss and Jaune from Velvet and Pyrrha. He is also seen in the Winter Animecon chapter, buying games from the same store Weiss and Ruby do.
- Combat Tentacles: That can turn into drills.
- I Just Want to Have Friends: Apparently the reason why he invited Professors Faust and Kanoe for tea.
- Insistent Terminology: He is the great and mighty Slen D. Man, not the Slender Man.
- Lighter and Softer: To the real Slender Man. In addition to being less dangerous (Justified, considering the RWBY cast take on far worse threats than him and are almost all completely armed to the teeth), he's also a Gurren Lagann fan who enjoys tea and talking to friends.
- Mythology Gag:
- He refers to himself as a haunter of young college filmmakers and 4chan threads.
- The way he communicates (by messages on a phone) is derived from Celty's. A sticker with her signature helmet is found on the case of his phone.
- No Indoor Voice: His phone has him typing in all caps.
- Steven Ulysses Perhero: Slen D. Man. It's implied he's invoking this, too; he's apparently a One Piece fan.
- The Voiceless: Doesn't actively speak at all, instead using a phone which he types messages onto to communicate. He's pretty communicative, though, without a voice- for anything he doesn't need a phone for, whirling your tentacles into giant Spiral Energy drills works just as fine.
Chiaki Nanami
An AI Blake programs after a perceived 'challenge' from another universe's counterpart of her.- Artificial Intelligence: Her status as the first actually second true AI Blake programmed (Norn was made an AI by Life Dust) is mentioned.
- Big Damn Heroes: Comes in to save the protagonists from the Grimmfather by taking control of the Iron Savior.
- Continuity Nod: Blake mentions that the framework for Nanami came from an associate by the name of 'Fujisaki'. Chihiro Fujisaki was her creator in the source material- well, indirectly.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: Visits one upon Weiss in Team Fortress 2 under Yang's direction.
- Gamer Chick: Designed as this. Yang deliberately designs her after the original Chiaki as a nod to this.
- I Know Mortal Kombat: She reassures the protagonists that she knows how to fly spacecraft from video games when they need to escape the Grimmfather. Weiss is understandably reluctant to agree. However, Nanami successfully manages to take the ship out of the Grimmfather's dimension and is only taken out by a surprise attack.
- Last-Name Basis: Only Weiss calls her Chiaki. Everyone else calls her Nanami.
- Sleepy Head: Poses as this during the DustChat call with Weiss.
- There Is Another: Chiaki isn't the first AI Blake created. The first one is an enigmatic entity by the name of Project YAMATO, who turns out to be the ship AI for the Iron Savior.
The Grimmfather
An ancient Grimm that Professor Faust and a group of Grimm sealed away decades ago. Its return and subsequent kidnapping of Professor Faust is the focus of the climactic arc of Volume 2.- Animalistic Abomination: It is a giant amalgamation of various creatures, from wolves to spiders, and is powerful enough to have created its own dimension when it was cast out of the world. It is still, however, a Grimm.
- Emotion Eater: Like all other Grimm, it thrives on feeding on negative emotion.
- Generic Doomsday Villain: Unlike Siegmund or Glynda, his reason for antagonising the protagonists seems to be nothing more than For the Evulz, to the extent that some of the reviewers have complained about this. However, the author has seemingly invoked this trope, according to him.
- Hero Killer: Heavily implied to have been one. Certainly, Professor Faust seems to treat it like one, and it's implied that the 'Johann' she mentions several times was slain trying to seal the Grimmfather away.
- It Can Think: Its major difference from other Grimm aside from its vast power.
- Kaiju: Is huge, even by Grimm standards.
- Made of Iron: Takes two spiral blasts from the Iron Savior, a cave in, the combined assaults of teams RWBY, JNPR, Winter, Velvet and Professor Faust thrice, a Portal Cut and a pack of Nyctoraptors before it finally falls. And even then, it took blasting all of its armour off to do so. And even then, it's heavily implied that it was weakened prior by a conflict with Azura or someone else using her pendant.
- Master of Illusion: One of its powers is to make people see their worst fears as vivid dreams or hallucination to feed upon their fear. As Weiss finds out to her chagrin....
- Sealed Evil in a Can: Professor Faust had to seal the Grimmfather away to keep it from destroying Vale, and the final arc of Volume 2 focuses around killing it before it leaves the world its been sealed into.
Copal
One of Yang's co-workers at the Cosplay Café she works at.- Ambiguously Brown: Mentioned to be dark skinned, but apart from that, her description is not entirely elaborated upon.
- Shipper on Deck: Is a huge Arkos fan, to the extent she assists Yang in taking a picture of Pyrrha and Jaune kissing.
Penny Polendina
The other resident Robot Girl and a friend of team RWBY.- Constantly Curious: Wishes to know more about the world.
- Foil: To the calmer and savvier Norn.
- Innocent Inaccurate: Assumes from Norn's description of a date that they are on a date. among other things.
- Out of Focus: Barely shows up, if at all, in the first two volumes. She only shows up properly during the Anniversary special in Volume 3.
- Robot Girl: Like Norn, and the original Robot Girl of the series.
- Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: The Savvy Girl, to Norn's Energetic Girl: With Norn.
